Principal’s Report

This week commenced with an Open day for the kindergarten parents and students for 2023. We enjoyed performances from our senior band, drama group, dance ensembles and our kindergarten 2022 classes. It was great to be able to have performances again and the new and interested parents for 2023 really enjoyed the morning. Thank you to our school leaders who conducted the school tours, all our visitors were suitably impressed. Thank you to Mrs Oscroft who coordinates it all and made our new parents feel so welcomed to the school.

Our kindergarten enrolment forms for next year are now due to the office. The kindergarten 2023 transition program begins Monday 17 October 2022.

Photo Day- Monday 27 June

Next Monday is our school Photo Day. Last term our photo day was called off mid-way through due to the terrible weather. Year 6 however did manage to have all their photos done. Please make sure you send your children to school with black shoes, white socks, and full school uniform on that day. Hair must be done, including being put up in a hairband if it is longer than shoulder-length (boys and girls). Sibling photos are due to begin at 8.30am with the rest of the classes commencing from 9.00am.

Library

Last Friday we said goodbye to Mrs Alison Webster as she goes off on maternity leave for the year. We have replaced Mrs Webster with one of our very familiar casual teachers Mrs Yardley. Mrs Yardley will work Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with Mrs Morrison remaining as librarian on Mondays and Tuesdays. Steph Davison will now take over Mrs Nealon’s administrative duties in the library on a Thursday.

We have quite a few library books that need to be covered. If you have a spare hour before picking up or drop off and would like to assist in covering some books for the school, please email the school and let us know when you are available.

Good Luck to our Dance Ensembles

This week our Boys Hip Hop and Girls Dance Group will be performing at Glen Street Theatre as part of the Northern Sydney Dance Festival. The dancers will perform on several occasions, and we wish both groups all the best. A big thank you to Ms Vanessa for her choreography and Ms Pembroke for her organisation of the groups. It is a lot of out of school hours of rehearsals for both students and teachers and we thank them all for their commitment to the program. The Dance Ensembles are a part of our Gifted and Talented programs at the school.

Debating

This week our two debating teams have travelled to Balgowlah North Public School and Harbord Public School (tomorrow) for the next round of interschool debating competition. Both teams have enjoyed the opportunities to compete against other schools. Thank you to Mrs Aga Banham and Ms Hebe Webster for their training of both our teams.

Band Performance- NSWEE at Forest High

Last night both our Senior and Junior Band performed as part of the NSWEE concert at Forest High. The band have a had a very busy performance schedule over the past few weeks performing at Pittwater High and the school assemblies. It is great to have performances back and our school bands are looking great in preparation for the Band Tour to Bathurst 17 October – 19 October. Thank you to our wonderful conductors Ben and Carlos for their tuition and commitment to the Band program and to Ms Taylor and Mrs Johnson for their ongoing organisation.

The Junior Band will perform at tomorrow’s K-2 assembly at 11.30am. Parents are welcome to come and watch their performance in the school hall.

K-2 Dance Concert – Wednesday 29 June

Next week we will complete our K-2 dance program with Ms Vanessa with a school concert. The concert will be in two sessions with kindergarten at 9.30am start and Years 1 and 2 for an 11.30am start. The girl’s and boy’s dance ensembles will perform at both session times. It is a very exciting time for all our children, and we hope that parents can attend next Wednesday 29 June. A gold coin donation towards our dance programs will be collected at the door on entry.

Ms Vanessa will move onto teaching our Year 3 and 4 students Hip Hop dancing during Term 3. Please make sure that all outstanding dance fees are paid by the end of term.

End of Term Disco - Wednesday 29 June

After our dance concert is completed, we will be vacating the hall to run a disco for all students to celebrate the achievements of the term. The disco will be run by the staff of Sustainable OSHC and the teachers of Manly Vale Public School. The disco is a fundraiser for the Year 6 Graduation events at the end of the year. The cost is $5.00 (cash only, no online payments). Tickets will go on sale next week with year 6 selling them at the gate on drop off and pick up.

We are making the whole of Wednesday a mufti day in celebration of the end of term. The disco times are:

K-2: 2.00pm-3.00pm (K-2 students who are not attending will be supervised in a separate classroom for the afternoon)

Years 3-6: 3.15pm-4.30pm (Students will go to the hall straight after school or if not attending are to make their own way home)

Reports- Tuesday 28 June

We have decided to send reports home on Tuesday 28 June. All hard copies of school reports will go home in school bags and emailed out that day as well.

School Holidays - Monday 4 July- Tuesday 19 July

School holidays will commence at the end of next week. Please take advantage of the Childcare vouchers available from Service NSW to organise some care for the holidays. Our fantastic holiday program will run all holidays including the Staff Development Day on Monday 18 July.

The school will be a part of the “Share our Space” initiative on the weekends of the holidays for community to use the grounds. Please remember that the school is not a dog park and that dogs should not be allowed on school grounds even on weekends.

School Photo Day

As you are aware, our School Photo Day had to be rescheduled due to the rain. The new date is next Monday 27 June. Some important notes about the day are below.

  • Please send your child to school in a clean FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM on Monday. Black shoes with white socks are required regardless of the type of uniform worn.
  • Please note that students who do not have permission to be photographed WILL be included in their class photo.
  • There is still time to order photos by going to www.advancedlife.com.au and using the online order code P2B 27Y HEW.
  • All of Year 6 were able to get their photos taken so they will not be required to have their photo taken again. If there was a Year 6 student away that day and they need to have a self-portrait taken, there will be time for this at lunch time on Monday. Please let your teacher know if this is your child.
  • Most of the sibling photos were able to be taken, however there are 8 families still requiring sibling photos. A note will be sent home with those families regarding their photo.
  • There will be no group photos this year i.e. choir, band, sport etc. except for a leaders photo for our school captains, vice captains and prefects.

Thank you.

Sporting News

A huge well done to Harrison Jeffs (6W) who was a part of the Pittwater and Manly combined soccer team for 2022 last week. After playing five games Harrison was selected in the Sydney North team. The feedback was you were a superb representative for Manly Vale and your zone whilst demonstrating a huge amount of talent and sportsmanship.

Also well done to Laird Granger (6W) who represented Manly Vale at the Combined Zones Rugby Union Trials at Rat Park Narrabeen on Wednesday 15 June. Laird was selected in the team zone team and will now play at the Regional Championships in a few weeks.

Congratulations to our student Isla Smith (5BC) who has been selected to play in the Northern Sydney and Beaches U11A Rep hockey team (which is the club equivalent of Sydney North).

She will be playing in several carnivals for this season, and we wish her the best of luck!

Congratulations to Andres Madden for competing at the Sydney North Regionals Cross Country, what a great effort!

Project Penguin

The Project Penguin designs were displayed by stage 3 last week to parents and students at Manly Vale Public School. Everyone enjoyed sharing their knowledge and creative designs with their peers. It was wonderful to see parents back in the classrooms again!

Lisa Cash - Classroom Teacher Year 5

Stage 1 Incursion

Last Wednesday Stage 1 students were not only treated to a bright sunny day but also a visit from our local emergency services. This incursion was as part of the term’s Geography unit of work about our community. Students met with Senior Constable Alana to learn the importance of staying safe and the role of our police officers in the local community. Everyone was keen to hear about the difference roles within NSW Police. The students were also joined by Station Officer Luke and the Manly fire station firefighters who spoke about what to do in an emergency fire situation. Theo B (2H) and Emily B (1C) were given the task of operating one of the fire hoses and did a great job. Students were reminded of the importance to regularly check there is a working smoke alarm at home.

Canteen News

Thank you to our amazing volunteers this term. If you would like to get organised for Term 3 you can sign up below.

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050e4baaaf2da2fe3-term10

The Canteen is open at lunch only for frozen treats and snacks. We still encourage you to order as much as possible through Flexischools to reduce crowding at the canteen.

Please remind your children if you order lunch or recess so that they know to pick up their food.

Emergency Lunch Payments

As we approach the end of term, now is a great time to pay any outstanding amounts you may have owing to the canteen. Please make payment via Flexischools using the IOU option.

PSSA Lunch Orders

If your child is participating in PSSA sports on Fridays, please remember to select the PSSA option when ordering so that we have their lunch ready for them at the earlier time.

Do not forget to order any drinks or snacks as there is not time to purchase food before leaving. We do not recommend ice blocks due to the limited time they have to eat. Remember no hot foods are to be ordered
