Return to School
It was welcome news last week to hear a “return to school” plan outlined by the NSW Department of Education.
- Learning from Home will continue for the remainder of Term 3 unless otherwise notified.
- From Monday 25 October, students in Kindergarten and Year 1 - will return to face-to-face learning under COVID-safe settings, as long as community transmission and vaccination rate requirements have been met.
- From Monday 1 November, students in Years 2, 6 and 11 will return to school sites under COVID-safe settings.
- From Monday 8 November, students in Years 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 return to school sites under COVID-safe settings.
On the return to school grades will be separated for lunch and recess and strict hygiene guidelines will be on place to keep staff and students safe. All of the teachers who are fully vaccinated will be on site and the wearing of masks will be compulsory for all staff.
Mask wearing for primary-aged students is encouraged but not mandatory. We are all so excited to see an end to this lockdown and look forward to finishing the year in a positive way.
Class Coordinator Feedback Sessions
Last week the Class Coordinators presented concerns and issues around the online learning for this term. Concerns were addressed and a feedback summary has been sent out to all Class Coordinators to distribute to their class parents. The main changes for next term in acting on this feedback will be:
- K-2 classes will have a zoom (social) session with their teacher once a week
- K-2 teachers will post work in google classroom and seesaw prior to Monday morning to allow parents time to go over the work on the weekend in preparation for the week.
Some social events have been organised for family enjoyment including the school disco this afternoon at 3.15pm. Please dress up in red and white and decorate your house for the disco. It will be whole school zoom (with cameras on) so we can all check out our dance moves.

P & C Meeting - Tuesday 31 August
We had our P & C meeting last Tuesday to discuss the implementation of the Class Coordinators feedback and the ongoing security issues the school is having on the weekend.
We are having trouble with skateboarders accessing the building site and vandalising the school. Last weekend 5 fire extinguishers were thrown over the balconies and damage to seating was caused. The school was designed to provide community access to the front of the school, but this is now causing a problem with youths now entering the buildings. The police were informed last week, and school security and police will do patrols on weekends to move people on who are trespassing on school grounds.
Additional school security cameras are being installed, and some footage from last weekend is being examined by police. It is such a shame that we have to firmly deny any access to the school grounds at anytime over the weekend and after school hours. The constant damage that is being caused to school property (by the few) is not sustainable financially by the school. Please talk to your children and their teenage siblings about the strict guidelines around entering the school.
If you see anyone on school grounds damaging property of entering the school buildings area, they will be prosecuted by the law. If you are a neighbour please call School Security 1300 880 021 or Dee Why police 9971 3399 or 000, to report any incidence of vandalism on the school site.
P & C Positions for 2021-2022
The Manly Vale Parents and Citizens Association (P & C) is the key link between parents, community, the teachers, and the principal. Meetings take place once or twice a term on a Tuesday evening around 7.00pm. These meetings are used as a forum for parents and the community to talk and discuss school directions, issues and provide a positive support network between teachers and parents.
The principal always gives a report on what is happening in the school and also consults on the School Plan, directions, school uniform and school policies including sport, uniform, canteen and healthy eating. Issues relating to school operation along with how to access community support is also discussed. Fundraising, applications for financial grants and volunteer support are all managed through the P & C.
The P & C also run and manage the uniform shop, the school canteen and the school band. All of these sub-committee have their own administration teams and financial managers, but all must report to the P & C. Without a P & C a lot of the organisation of our school cannot be maintained. It is important to support the P & C and be informed as to what is happening at meetings and how you can be involved in the school.
At the end of the year in our Annual General Meeting we will elect a new president and treasurer for the P & C. James Fewtrell (Kate - year 6 dad) and Tony Sherlock (Isaac - Year 6 dad) will be leaving the school. We really need to elect a new president and treasurer for 2022. Karen Murgatroyd (Secretary) and Kristen Te Pania (Class Coordinators liaison) will continue in their roles. If you are interested in being a member of the P & C and having a vote at the end of the year, or want to stand for one of these positions, you should attend the next few meetings and express your interest by contacting Karen Murtgatroyd - manlyvaleprimaryschoolpc@gmail.com
