Principal’s Report
This week is Education Week where we are currently celebrating the theme “Learning Together.” This year’s celebrations have been a little different as we are unable to share all the great things that are happening in classrooms with our parents and carers.
We began the week with a virtual welcome to Education week from our Department of Education leaders. It was great to see one of our local high schools Freshwater Senior Campus acknowledged in the live stream. Follow this link below if you wish to see the stream.

Band Performances
This week we have filmed the rehearsals of our school bands. Links to these performances will be sent out next week. The junior band will also perform for year 2 & 3 students on Thursday 20 August so as students who are interested in joining the band get to see what instruments they would like to learn. More information regarding joining the junior band for next year will be available.
The senior band will also perform for Years 2-6 on Friday 21 August as a lead into our official banner assembly for Term 3. Unfortunately, parents ae unable to attend these performances.
Athletics Carnival 2020
Next Monday 10 August we will run our annual Athletics Carnival. All students who are aged from 8 years to 13 years are able to participate in the competitive carnival. The teachers will be the only adults permitted at the carnival. Parents and visitors are unable to attend due to the COVID 19 regulations.
The K-2 students will have a fun carnival at school that day. Please be aware that lunch orders are only available to the non-competitive K-2 students who will be remaining at school that day. All other students will need to bring their lunch, recess and water bottle for the day.
Please ensure your child/ren comes to school in sport’s uniform that day. Those students who are involved in the competitive carnival are encouraged to wear their house colours.
Congratulations Zoe
Zoe Chakravarty in KM received 3rd prize in the Long Reef Aquatic Colouring in competition. Zoe is definitely on her way to becoming one of our talented artists. Congratulations!
Parking
Please be aware of the limited parking conditions around the school. Please just drop off your children and let them walk into school as teachers are there to greet and dismiss children at the gate.
Kindergarten 2021 Orientation Days
All local families are invited to enrol their children for Kindergarten in 2021 now by downloading an enrolment form from the school website below and dropping it into the office. If you have a sibling already at school, let the office know and we will send you a ‘ghosted’ enrolment form.
http://www.manlyvale-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/
Kindergarten Orientation days are as follows:
Monday 21 September 2020 9.30-11.00am
Monday 19 October 2020 9.30-11.00am
Monday 26 October 2020 9.30-11.00am
Student Absence Email Notification
The Department of Education requires parent explanation for all student absences within 7 days. To lessen the administration and maintenance of attendance, as from next Monday 3 August if your child is away from school you will receive a courtesy email letting you know that they are absent. This will occur on a daily basis, requesting that you provide an explanation for why they were away. This can be done by emailing the school on manlyvale-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or alternatively we have added an Absentee tile in our Schoolzine app which enables you to complete an absent notification which gets emailed directly to the school. Please do not reply to the original email as it is generated from our attendance roll marking system in Sentral.
We’re hoping this system makes it easier for families to explain student leave or illness. We apologise if there are any teething issues in the beginning and appreciate your support and understanding. Please if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
We are nearing the end of the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2020. The closing date is Friday 28 August. Congratulations to the many children who have worked hard to finish the challenge already.
Please remember:
Infants Students (K-2) will be completing the challenge entirely at school – you do not need to do anything at home. Students will read 30 books in library and class time and then receive a certificate at the end of the year
Primary Students (3-6) will be expected to complete the challenge independently. They need to read 20 books and enter them into the PRC website by the closing date, Friday 28 August, to qualify for a certificate at the end of the year. Students use their regular school login to access the website.
Please see the PRC website for challenge rules, booklists and information on how to log books to your reading record online. Most questions can be answered at the PRC website, however please contact me if you can’t find the information that you need, or if you have queries relating directly to your child’s account. Students may also visit the library during lunchtime for PRC help.
