School Fees

There are still some outstanding school fees to date. Please make a payment especially for programs like dance and gym where our Dance and Gym teacher need to be paid for their tuition. The school fees finance additional programs for the enjoyment of our students and the enrichment of opportunities for them all. Failure to pay for these programs will result in these programs being cancelled for 2024.

School fees do not cover the basic of a free public-school education which is provided by our government. The Manly Vale Public School fees cover the additional programs and opportunities including PSSA, excursions, and incursions to enrich our school programs, additional resources and craft materials, and the IT licences students use for home and schoolwork including Mathletics, Reading Eggs, World Book etc. Please make an appointment with Mrs Lee if you are unable to make payments towards these programs.

RAT Tests

We have extra RAT tests available from the office.

Parent Workshop

Parent workshop to provide strategies for improved parent / child relationships and positive behaviour at home

As we embrace the more familiar daily routine we must also consider what communities, families and educators need in order to address the harmful effects of the pandemic has had on children’s academic and social development. In 2022, Manly Vale Public School upskilled our Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 teachers on the evidence-based program, called PAX Good Behaviour Game. This program is supported by the NSW Department of Education and underpins our positive student behaviour programs. It has now been introduced into Kindergarten and Year 1 classrooms since the beginning of this year.

The PAX Good Behaviour Game (PAX GBG) is a classroom-based system that teachers use to teach skills for self-regulation, co-regulation, and self-control during any school or after school activity and at home. It does this through creating a shared classroom and school purpose and vision with teachers and peers to create peace, productivity, health, and happiness. We value and understand the importance of having consistent language and structures between home and school so that children are best supported to thrive in both environments.

We are excited to offer a parent workshop delivered by our school Deputy Principal, Mrs Sharon Oscroft and our school Assistant Principal, Mrs Sarah Birrell, who have been trained in delivering this effective behaviour program.

The program will be held on Monday 19 June 5:30pm – 6:30pm in the school staffroom. Please refer to the attached flyer for detailed information about the workshop for parents. Registration is required as resources are provided for each attendee. Please see the flyer for the link to register your attendance by 16 June.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Debating

Debating at Harbord Public School

Last Thursday 8 June the Manly Vale Owls and Foxes travelled to Harbord Public School to debate against the Harbord Whites and Maroons.

On the Manly Vale Owls Team was:

1st speaker: Emma
2nd speaker: Zoe
3rd speaker: Ailsa
4th speaker: Ruby

On the Manly Vale Foxes Team was:

1st speaker: Andrew
2nd speaker: Bonnie
3rd speaker: Alana
4th speaker: Melina

Manly Vale Owls versus Harbord White’s were on the affirmative side and debated the topic ‘We should give primary school students two chances in any test or assignment’.

Manly Vale Foxes versus Harbord Maroons were on the negative side and debated the topic ‘There should be no homework in all primary schools’.

Whilst the debates were awarded to Harbord, the Manly Vale debaters spoke confidently and made some very convincing arguments.

Mrs Johnston

Debating at Manly Village Public School

The Manly Vale Debating Teams were lucky enough to host two debates against Manly Village Public School’s Turtles and Penguins on Tuesday.

On the Manly Vale Owls Team was:

1st speaker: Ruby
2nd speaker: Emma
3rd speaker: Brielle
4th speaker: Zoe

On the Manly Vale Foxes Team was:

1st speaker: Mackenzie
2nd speaker: Bonnie
3rd speaker: Melina
4th speaker: Andrew

After opening our Round 2 envelopes both teams ranked three topics on media and screens. After careful consideration with their teams and a coin toss it was decided that:

Manly Village Turtles versus Manly Vale Owls were on the negative side and debated the topic ‘That kids in Year 5 and above should have the right to a minimum of 1 hour of recreational screentime each day’

Manly Village Penguins versus Manly Vale Foxes were on the negative side and debated the topic ‘That parents should make their Year 5 and 6 kids watch the news with them’

Both teams prepared and debated exceptionally well however unfortunately Manly Vale was unsuccessful in both debates.

We are looking forward to our next debate in Week 10 on Tuesday 27 of June at Manly West Public School.

Miss Webster

More information about these guidelines can be found at:

PSSA and Friday orders

PSSA students can only order recess on Fridays. We have included some yummy recess options so you can still get something great to eat before sport.

Volunteers

The canteen needs your help to get all the lunches made as well as serve at the counter. We really need Volunteers on Thursday and Friday mornings to help get all the sandwiches and toasties made. Without volunteers the canteen will not be able to offer the full range of yummy foods each day.

Please sign up below, feel free to sign up with a friend if you want, just pop both your names in the sign up sheet.
