Principal’s Report
Welcome back to all students, teachers and parents! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and rest and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
ANZAC Day
I am sure many of you attended the Manly Dam Dawn service last Tuesday and it was great to also see some of our Manly Vale families at the Dee Why Beach Dawn service this year. I’d like to acknowledge Ava Lau a year 6 student at Manly Dam, who was up early on ANZAC day to volunteer at the Dee Why service. So wonderful to see our students giving back to the community.
Our school’s ANZAC day service will be run by our School leaders on Friday 28 April. All students will participate in this service and learn the importance of ANZAC Day. Thank you to Mrs Mauger and Mrs Adamo for organising this special commemorative service.
3-6 Assembly – Friday 2.30pm
This Friday 28 May we will have a 3-6 assembly for merit awards. Next week Friday 5 May there will be a K-6 assembly at 9.00am and an SRC meeting at 2.15pm that afternoon. PSSA is not due to start until Friday 12 May (Week 3).
Cross Country Carnival - Thursday 4 May
Next Thursday all students from Years 2 to Year 6, will participate in the School Cross Country carnival at David Thomas Reserve from 9.30am- 12.30pm (lunch). Students will walk down to the oval after roll call and then run in their age-appropriate events. The 8-year-old race is the first of the day and only students in year 2 who are turning 8 this year can run in this race. The rest of year 2 will go down to support their friends and observe what is expected of them for next year. Year 2 students will all return to school after the completion of their race. The rest of the school will have recess down at the oval so please make sure to pack a recess as the canteen will not be available for year 3-6 that day. All students will return to school by lunchtime to have a normal lunch.

PSSA
In Term 2, our school will once again be participating in the PSSA Manly Zone competition. As always, it’s fantastic to see large numbers of students signing up for every sport. Teachers are faced with the difficult task of putting these teams together. Teachers do their absolute best to give every student the opportunity to impress and be selected. Trials were held last term for Rugby League, Netball and Soccer.
We would love to take every student who trialled for PSSA however, we are limited to take a certain number of students in each sport. We ask that students and parents are understanding of the decision made by teachers. Teachers will not be responding to requests to add students to teams or to change decisions. Decisions on teams are final.
Along with this, please be advised of the following:
- Trials are held over two weeks to allow for students to be seen multiple times and to accommodate students who may be absent due to illness on one of the trial dates. Students must be present at a minimum of one trial to be considered. Students who are absent due to illness on both trial dates will not be considered.
- Students who are present at the trials but are injured and unable to trial e.g. broken arm, will be considered if the injury is not long term. Teachers will arrange a trial for these students as soon as their injury has resolved.
- Students who are absent for all trial dates due to holidays will not be considered.
- Sports may be cancelled where we do not have sufficient student numbers to field a team.
- The great news for students who do not attend PSSA on a Friday is that they will be participating in our school sport programs. Each term we book external providers who come to the school and run exciting competitions and fun skill sessions.
Melinda Ward - PSSA Coordinator
Senior Choir
We have had a wonderful start to choir for 2023! Thank you to the 40+ students who have been dedicated to showing up to our Thursday lunchtime rehearsals. We are eagerly waiting to hear about the Arts Alive Choral Festival for 2023 and find out the songs we will be performing.
This term – rehearsals will continue from week 1– please remember to bring your folder and music each Thursday to our lunchtime rehearsals.
We would also like to congratulate our 2023 Choir Captain: Mackenzie Tiscareno. Mackenzie has been a dedicated choir member for the past 3 years and is an excellent role model to her peers. She will be presented with her Choir Captain badge at our next K-6 morning assembly in week 2.

Canteen News
Welcome back to Term 2. We are so excited to be back. This term we have partnered with Chachu's in Brookvale to bring you delicious Butter Chicken for the cooler weather. We also have a yummy vegetarian lasagne available alongside our usual Mac & Cheese and Pasta Bolognaise. With the cooler weather we have chosen to offer some great Glee Juice drinks available for days when it is too cold for a frozen treat.
Cross Country Carnival - 4 May
Please do not order recess for year 3-6 students for cross country as they will not be at school to collect it. You will still be able to place lunch orders for this day. Kindergarten - Year 2 will be able to order as normal.
Volunteers
The canteen needs your help to get all the lunches made as well as serve at the counter. We really need volunteers on Friday mornings to help get all the sandwiches and toasties made. Without volunteers the canteen will not be able to offer the full range of yummy foods each day.
Please sign up below, feel free to sign up with a friend if you want, just pop both your names in the sign up sheet.
