Principal’s Report
Thank you to all parents who attended Parent Information evenings over the past couple of weeks. The evenings have been very well attended and teachers have really appreciated the opportunity to share their classroom organisation for the year. We will have Parent/Teacher interviews in weeks 9 & 10 of this term, Monday 20 March-Friday 31 March, and a separate note and online booking time sheet will be sent out in the next few weeks.
Thank you to all the parents who have offered to be the class coordinators for their child’s class. We had a meeting with Kristen Te Pania and Amy Hansen yesterday to discuss the roles and responsibilities of these coordinators. Their first main job is to send out an email to all parents who have given them their contact details from the google form on the parent information night. If you missed the information night, please drop into the office, and collect a paper note to give permission for your email and phone numbers to be shared.
Amy Hansen will be contactable on the email address below:

Next Tuesday night we will have our P&C AGM. All executive positions will all be declared vacant at this meeting. If you wish to nominate for one of the positions below, please send your nominations to our current secretary Karen Murgatroyd: manlyvaleprimaryschoolpc@gmail.com
Karen will be standing down as Secretary at this meeting, and we will need a parent to take on this position. If you can give some time to P&C this year, please consider standing for one of the roles outlined in the attached role statements. Roles include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Events Manager, Canteen Coordinator and Uniform Shop Convenor. Currently our Canteen is run by Becky McGowan and our uniform shop by Wendie McDougall, but additional help and assistance is always required in these two areas of the P&C.
Only financial members of the P&C can vote on the night. Please send in a gold coin to the office in a clearly labelled envelope with your name, child’s name, and class if you wish to vote at the AGM next week.

Traffic and Travel Changes 2023
Bus service to New Catchment Area
We are currently working with Transport NSW and the Department of Education to provide a bus service to the new areas within our catchment zone. To truly reflect the need for a service to this new additional part our catchment, we require parents to apply for an Opal card for their children that will reflect their address details. Please complete an application for an opal card using the link below, even though there is not a service currently running to your area.
https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-school-travel-pass
https://transportnsw.info/contact-us/feedback/general-feedback
Please be aware that students who live within the SSTS exclusion zone (1.6km as the crow flies from the school) will need to pay $55 per term for the School Travel pass. Please complete your application prior to 14 March so a final decision can be made as to whether a bus is required to this new area.
Bus Stop at Quirk Road
Thank you to Mr Andrew McGuirk who has successfully petitioned Transport NSW to have a safer bus stop and crossing option for those students who currently catch the 618 buses. Engineers are currently looking into relocating the bus stop in Quirk Road further away from the intersection and putting a raised crossing for students to safely cross the road after exiting the bus.
There will be some community consultation over the next few weeks so parents and community within this area are encouraged to support this initiative, for the safety of our students. If you currently live in Quirk Road, please look out for consultation paperwork over the coming few weeks and make your responses.
Parking area closed during school pick up and drop off- From today!
In response to the recent traffic audit by Northern Beaches Council, the car park located on the corner of Sunshine Street and Gibbs Street is now closed for pick up and drop off for children.
Parents and community will not be permitted to enter and park in this council carpark from 8.00am- 9.30am (morning drop off) and 2.30pm – 4.00pm (afternoon pick up). Please be prepared to park away from the school and walk up, as Parking Rangers will be policing this over the next few weeks.
Exemptions apply for those vehicles who have a “Mobility Permit” sticker.
5 minute Parking Zone next to Car Park on Gibbs/Sunshine Street
Please make sure that you only park in the 5-minute parking zone next to the car park on Gibbs/Sunshine Street. Rangers will be fining drivers who stay longer than the 5-minute time slots. The “Kiss and Drop” 5-minute parking zones are meant for drivers to drop in and pick up or drop off. You are not supposed to leave your vehicle.
You are not permitted to do U-turns at the front of the school when leaving this zone so please continue down Gibbs Street. Rangers will be enforcing all these regulations over the next few weeks.

Please contact Northern Beaches council on 1300 434 434 or email council@beaches.nsw.gov.au for further information.

Zone Swimming Carnival
Next Wednesday 8 March is the Zone Swimming Carnival which is held at the Warringah Aquatic Centre. Congratulations to the 39 Manly Vale students who will be representing our school at this exciting event. A permission note has been sent home to those students outlining pricing and travel. This year, as bus prices have soared, students will need to make their own way to the venue and meet Mrs Ward and Miss Hepworth at the Aquatic Centre at 8:20am. There will be a bus for students to travel back to school on at the end of the carnival. Parents are invited to attend and sit with their child during the carnival. We ask that parents please return the permission note as soon as possible. Payment can be made either by cash at the front office, or online AFTER the 8 March due to a Departmental freeze on all school financial platforms.
Manly Vale School Carnival
Ribbons for our school carnival events will be handed out at this week’s assembly in the K-2 Cola. Parents are invited to attend if they wish.
There was an error with the swim results last week where it should have stated that Archie Shephard placed 2nd in the 11yr Boys 50m Butterfly event. Congratulations Archie, we wish you lots of success at the zone carnival next week.
Attached is an updated results page and an updated records page.
Stage 3 - Design, Make & Innovate (DMI)
Stage 3 continued their DMI group projects on Wednesday. There have been some very creative and environmentally conscious groups. Students are working with their mentors from Mackellar Girls Campus to design a Proto type or technology which reduces our carbon footprint.
Take a look!

Canteen News
The canteen is open for recess and lunch orders placed through Flexischools. We are open at lunch only for counter service to purchase frozen treats and snacks.
When making orders please ensure you check your confirmation email to ensure your order has been placed correctly.
Please do not send large amounts of money to school to be spent at the canteen. Most items available at the counter are between 50c and $3.00 so students do not need more than a few dollars to buy something.
PSSA
If your child is competing in PSSA you will be able to order recess only on Friday. Please DO NOT order Friday lunch for your PSSA child as they will not be at school to collect it. We encourage PSSA children to order earlier in the week to enjoy all their lunch favourites.
We have added garlic bread and cheese & ham rolls for Friday Recess.
Volunteers
The canteen needs your help to get all the lunches made as well as serve at the counter.
Please sign up below, feel free to sign up with a friend if you want, just pop both your names in the sign up sheet.
