Principal’s Report
How wonderful to have our Annual School Swimming Carnival at Andrew Boy Charlton pool this week. Congratulations to all the students who participated in a race and earned points for their house. Thank you to Mrs Ward and Mrs Birrell for all their organisation, and to all the staff and parents who helped run such a successful carnival. The weather stayed fine and certainly encouraged a lot of participation this year. Special mention to our house captains who led their houses in cheers and encouraged maximum participation for all competitors.
Swimming ribbons will be presented at a special K-6 assembly on Friday 3 March at 9.00am under the K-2 COLA. Parents are welcome to attend. The zone swimming carnival is on Wednesday 8 March. Notes will come home with students after the assembly.

Lost Property from the Swimming Carnival – Please come to the office to collect any lost items.
SRE and SEE Induction
Thank you to all our parents and community members who have volunteered their time to teach Special Education in Ethics and Special Religious Education this year. Without volunteers we would not be able to run these classes on a Wednesday morning. Thank you all for attending the induction last Wednesday with Mrs Tanya Coleman. Scripture and Ethics will be starting next Wednesday 1 March for all students.
Design Make Innovate -DMI
This year our year 5 & 6 students will participate in a Design, Make and Innovate (DMI) project on sustainability. The stage 3 students will be mentored through the design process by some Mackellar Girls Campus students. These challenges are a great way to work as a team and prepare for learning in high school. Today was their first day working with their mentors. Good luck to all our students.
Stage 2 Parent Information Night- Thursday 23 February 5.00-6.00pm
Tonight, we will host the last of our Parent Information sessions. Thank you to all parents who have attended these sessions. These information evenings are a great way to meet your child’s teacher and to understand the expectations for the classroom this year.
Thank you to all the parents who have offered to be Class Coordinators this year. Mrs Amy Hansen, along with Kristen Te Pania will coordinate our class communications this year. The new P & C Coordinator email is:
mvpspandccommunications@gmail.com
We will have an information session for all the Class Coordinators on Wednesday 1 March at 2.15pm in the school’s staffroom. Please try to attend to receive your class lists and to set up communication channels for the year.
PSSA Begins Tomorrow
We still have some parents who have not yet responded to the email sent out for permission for their child to attend PSSA. If notes are not returned or money not paid, students will not be able to attend PSSA sports. Please be sure to respond to the email allowing your child to attend PSSA sport tomorrow.
PSSA teams will not be able to buy lunches on Fridays and need to pack lunch and a water bottle instead. They can order a substantial recess if they wish from the canteen which will be ready for 11.40am. We have had to combine recess and lunch to 11.40am-12.00 timeslot to allow for the changes in bus timetables. All students will return to school by 2.30pm each week.
Full sports uniform and a school hat should be worn when representing the school at PSSA.
New Finance System – Lockout Period 1 - 8 March
In preparation for the transition to a simplified finance system, we will need to implement a short lock out period where we will not be able to receive any online or EFTPOS payments. The lock out will be from 4.00pm Wednesday 1 March until 8 March. Please see attached information. Any outstanding payments would be appreciated before this period.
Uniform Shop Opening- 8.30am Tomorrow
Wendie will open the uniform shop tomorrow. Vouchers cannot be used during this time due to the increased amount of processing time they take. Thank you to Wendie and her team of volunteers last Saturday for opening the shop so that parents were able to use the vouchers.
Wendie will be providing appointment only openings over the next few weeks for those parents who still wish to purchase using the vouchers.
Band Meeting- Monday 27 February 7.00pm
Next Monday evening we will have our first band meeting for the year. All parents of Band students are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held in the school’s staffroom. Swimming Carnival
Our school swimming carnival on Tuesday turned out to be a HUGE success. The sun was shining, the students were excited, and the day ran smoothly. The teachers were astounded with the beautiful and respectful behaviour of all students on the day, whether participating or spectating. We are truly proud of all competitors for giving it a go and jumping in to earn points for their house. Well done to our house captains and vice captains who did a spectacular job on their first ever event as leaders, and led their House war cries throughout the day to support their teams. Thank you to Mrs Lee and Mrs Oscroft who prioritised time to spend the day at the carnival assisting teachers and students. We are extremely lucky!
We had a staggering 12 school records broken yesterday. They are:

Charli Gower – 10yr Girls 50m Freestyle – 36.37
Hudson McLaren – 11yr Boys 50m Freestyle – 32.38

A massive congratulations to the above students on swimming their absolute best on Tuesday and taking away a school record.
Please see below the list of records and place results for each event. Please note that ribbons are awarded for each event, NOT each heat. Swimmers who placed 1st and 2nd for the 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, IM, and the OPEN 100m, and students who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the 50m Freestyle aged events, will proceed to the Zone Carnival on 8 March at Warringah Aquatic Centre. A note will be sent home with these students soon.
Ribbons will be handed out next Friday morning at 9.00am in the K-2 COLA for any parent who would like to attend.
Well done everyone!

Dance Ensembles
This week the girls’ and boys’ Dance Ensembles have been selected by Miss Vanessa, Miss Smyth and Mrs Kennedy, from auditions done at lunchtimes during Weeks 4 & 5. Ensembles will be announced next week. The selection process has been extensive and thorough. Students who make it into the Dance Ensembles will be committing to lunchtime rehearsals and performances during Terms 1 & 2, sometimes out of school hours.
I wanted to say a huge thank you to the boys and girls who auditioned for the dance ensemble groups. Miss Vanessa, Miss Smyth and I had 93 girls audition for the girls’ ensemble group, with only 24 being selected.
It was an extremely hard choice to make as we have incredible talent at Manly Vale Public School.
Thank you.
Mrs Kennedy, Miss Smyth & Miss Vanessa
School Photo Day
Our School Photo Day has been scheduled for Thursday 2 March 2023. On this day, Advanced Life will be taking class, individual and sibling photos for the entire school as well as the SRC, Grade 6 and leadership group photos.
Prior to then, parents are encouraged to purchase the school photos for their child/ren by going to www.advancedlife.com.au and using the online order code P2B 27Y HEW. Attached is a detailed information sheet about how to do this online. Envelopes will also be sent home with your child/ren as an alternative way to purchase your photos. If purchasing via the envelope, please return your envelope with your payment to the photographer on school photo day. Online orders do not require an envelope returned to the school.
If you would like to have your children have a sibling photo taken, you need to pre-order online up to 24 hours before photo day. Please note that sibling photos only apply to children enrolled at our school.
Past years’ photographs are also available to order under the “previous years or group photo” tabs at our school’s advancedorder site when you click on the “Order School Photos Here” button. You can also order past packages, portrait images and gifts from your child’s unique, individual and secure advancedyou image archive site using the unique 9-digit image code P2B 27Y HEW.

Canteen News
The canteen is open for recess and lunch orders placed through Flexischools. We are open at lunch only for counter service to purchase frozen treats and snacks.
When making orders please ensure you check your confirmation email to ensure your order has been placed correctly.
Please do not send large amounts of money to school to be spent at the canteen. Most items available at the counter are between 50c and $3.00 so students do not need more than a few dollars to buy something.
PSSA
If your child is competing in PSSA you will be able to order recess only. You will not be able to place lunch orders as they will be at sport for the afternoon. We encourage PSSA children to order earlier in the week to enjoy all their lunch favourites.
Frozen Treats
Frozen items for years 1-6 must be collected from the canteen. Please remember to bring your lunch order bag to obtain your item.
Volunteers
The canteen needs your help to get all the lunches made as well as serve at the counter.
Please sign up below, feel free to sign up with a friend if you want, just pop both your names in the sign up sheet.
