Swimming Carnival- Tuesday 21 February
Next Tuesday we will have our annual swimming carnival at Andrew Boy Charlton pool from 9.00am-1.30pm. All parents are welcome to attend. All students from Years 3-6 must attend the carnival as there is no supervision back at school that day. Students in Year 2 who turn 8 may attend the carnival if they can competently swim 50 metres but attendance by Year 2 students is not compulsory. There is supervision at school for all students in Kindergarten, years 1 & 2.
Special Religious Education (SRE) and (SEE) Special Education in Ethics)
Next week there will be an induction for all our SRE and SEE teachers in the staffroom at 9.00am in preparation for the beginning of these classes to start in week 6, Wednesday 1 March. Thank you to Mrs Tanya Coleman who is coordinating these programs this year.
Please note that students will be placed in their SRE and SEE classes from last year unless otherwise notified by parents in writing.
SEE and SRE are both delivered by volunteers. Classes depend on the number of volunteers available to run the classes. The local churches provide volunteers for the scripture classes however the Ethics volunteers need to come from the parent body and community. Training is available with primary Ethics.

PSSA Starts- Friday 24 February
Due to the change in bus pick up times PSSA students will have a combined recess and lunch on a Friday at 11.40am. No lunch orders will be available for PSSA students from the canteen however there will be a substantial recess menu offered for PSSA students if they wish to order. PSSA participants will need to come with a packed lunch and a snack to be eaten at this new time or when they get to the ground to play.
The PSSA buses leave at 12.00pm and return to school by 2.30pm. In the hope to minimise disruptions and waste valuable teaching time, we will now have all our assemblies and SRC meetings scheduled to begin between 2.15pm-2.30pm on a Friday afternoon.

Uniform Shop Opening- Appointments only- Saturday 18 February
This Saturday, Wendie from the uniform shop and some of our wonderful volunteers will be opening for appointments only, for parents who wish to use the “Back To school Vouchers” to purchase uniform items.
To process these vouchers is very time consuming and therefore vouchers will not be accepted online or on the usual Friday morning opening times. There are no appointments left for this Saturday however there is a possibility of opening for a Friday later this term if Wendie has the support of some volunteers.
If you are wishing to purchase uniform perhaps you can offer your time on a Friday to assist with the process. Without volunteers to assist the shop will not open again for vouchers. If you can assist with some time on a Friday, please email the school office or Wendie.

A friendly reminder that next Tuesday 21 February is our Swimming Carnival at Manly “Andrew Boy Charlton” Pool Manly Vale. Students will be arriving by buses that will be departing the school at 9:10am and returning at approximately 2:15pm. Please ensure your child is sent to school on time, and that they have with them their recess, lunch, hat, drink bottle, sunscreen, towel and swimmers all clearly labelled please. Students may wish to wear a shirt of their house colour.
Students who wish to compete in the 100m OPEN Freestyle event will need to make their own way to the pool by 8:45am to meet Mrs Birrell and Mrs Ward so that they event can get started by 9.00am. The Junior and Senior Individual Medley event has been moved back to its original place in the events list, to the end of the carnival. PSSA Competition
In 2023, our school will once again be participating in the PSSA Manly Zone competition. As always, it is fantastic to see a large number of students signing up for every sport. Teachers are faced with the difficult task of putting these teams together. Teachers do their absolute best to give every student the opportunity to impress and be selected. Trials have been held over the last two weeks.
We would love to take every student who trialled for PSSA however, we are limited to take a certain number of students in each sport. We ask that students and parents are understanding of the decision made by teachers. Teachers & staff will not be responding to requests to add students to teams or to change decisions. Decisions on teams are final.
Along with this, please be advised of the following:
- Trials are held over two weeks to allow for students to be seen multiple times and to accommodate students who may be absent due to illness on one of the trial dates. Students must be present at a minimum of one trial to be considered. Students who are absent due to illness on both trial dates will not be considered.
- Students who are present at the trials but are injured and unable to trial e.g. broken arm, will be considered if the injury is not long term. Teachers will arrange a trial for these students as soon as their injury has resolved.
- Students who are absent for all trial dates due to holidays will not be considered.
- Sports may be cancelled where we do not have sufficient student numbers to field a team.
The great news for students who do not attend PSSA on a Friday is that they will be participating in our school sport programs. Each term we book external providers who come to the school and run exciting competitions and fun skill sessions.

School Photo Day
