Principal’s Report

Our thoughts go to our neighbouring community of Manly West Public School who are all experiencing a lot of grief and emotion after the shock incident last Monday. Many of our parents will know some of the children and families, and as a school we have reached out to offer support if required.

Friday 25 November – No PSSA games

This week there are no PSSA games so all teams will remain at school for a normal day. We have moved the 3-6 assembly back to 11.30am in the school hall for this week, and lunchtime will be 12.50pm-1.40pm. The canteen is available for lunch orders.

The following week we will have our last PSSA round for the year. The local schools are all discussing as to whether PSSA will go ahead on Fridays next year if this shortage of buses and drivers continue.

Banner Assembly - Week 9

Our final banner assembly will be Friday 9 December at 9.00am under the K-2 COLA. The final cut off day for names for the banners is Tuesday 29 November (week 8) to allow time for newsletter publishing.

Thank you to our Volunteers

Yesterday the staff hosted a morning tea to thank all our wonderful parents and community members for the hours of volunteer support they have provided during 2022. It has been a great year as we have been able to run all our additional extra-curricular and fundraising activities that support our students in their learning environment and provide finance to purchase additional resources for them to learn.

We thanked our Ethics (SEE) teachers and Scripture (SRE) teachers for their lessons every Wednesday morning. Our canteen and Café Owl volunteers for providing delicious lunches and breakfast on a Friday morning. Our uniform shop volunteers who assist Wendie to collate orders and assist in opening the shop on Friday mornings. Our Class Coordinators who communicate to all families within their child’s class on events from the P & C fundraising team and the Class teacher. They are an invaluable team who provide clear and accurate communication for the whole school.

Special mention to Kristen Te Pania who has been the Class Coordinator Liaison over the past 5 years and spends a lot of time deciphering through email communications to support the coordinators and teachers, in their distribution of information. Kristen will be stepping down from this role next year, so we are hoping to find someone willing to take over this role, with Kristen’s support and mentorship next year.

Acknowledgment of all the parents, grandparents and community members that assist in the classroom for literacy and maths groups, help in the library and cover books. We thanked our band program volunteers who coordinate the meetings and performances, and a band tour this year, so that as a school we can offer this wonderful opportunity to all students.

Our P & C who meet 2- 3 times a term to coordinate parents and community involvement, fundraising and oversee all these school activities. Thanks to Karl Treacher (President), Pete Weatherston (Treasurer) and Karen Murgatroyd (Secretary) for all they do behind the scenes, in managing all these volunteers and successfully providing a healthy Canteen, Uniform shop, Band program, Class Coordinator communications, and fundraising for the school. Karen will be stepping down from the role as P & C secretary at the Annual general meeting of the P & C on Tuesday 7 March 2023. Karen is happy to mentor someone who would like to take on this role. Please email the P & C if you would like more information.

This year we must acknowledge the great work of Kate Williams, Amy Hansen, and the fundraising team for a very successful return of the annual Trivia night. It was a great night for the community and raised over $30,000 for the school. Our Mother’s Day stall run by Kindergarten and the Father’s Day breakfast were all wonderful events and raised valuable funds for the school.

A positive Community Spirit is about being part of the community. Volunteering in a school helps to establish ties and friendships for the whole family. Thank you to everyone who has contributed this year. We look forward to these ongoing partnerships next year.

2023 Kindergarten Picnic

Yesterday was the final session for our Kindergarten 2023 Orientation program. A lovely picnic at Manly Dam for our new students and their families. Thank you to Mrs Oscroft for all her organisation of this extensive transition program. The new families have enjoyed multiple tours, time in classrooms, a Wine and Cheese evening and the picnic. We hope our new students are all prepared and excited for their start in Kindergarten next year.

Morning Tea with the Mrs Blackband and Mrs Gibson

As part of the Trivia night auction the Sokolow family purchased a morning tea with their girls (Aurelia and Anastasia) and their teachers Mrs Blackband and Mrs Gibson. Thank you to Kristen Te Pania who will be catering the event tomorrow and to Mr and Mrs Sokolow for the very generous donation to the school.

Leaders 2023

Next week our Year 5 nominees for school leadership will be writing their leadership speeches (Monday) and presenting them on Tuesday to Year 2 to Year 5. This is a very exciting time for our year 5 students as they all are beginning their journey into school leadership for next year. Congratulations to all the students who bravely put themselves forward for these leadership opportunities.

Classes Next Year- Leaving the School

We are starting to prepare for next year and it is important that we have correct numbers when forming classes. Please email the school if you are leaving next year. Classes are based on professional decisions made by the classroom teachers and the executive team. Friendship groupings are one of the criteria for forming classes but not the only one. Students do need to get used to being in classes without their friends. Remember that recess and lunchtimes and across grade activities e.g. excursions, do allow students to mix and mingle with others in their cohort.

School Fees now due

Please finalise all school fees for the year as soon as possible. There are still a lot of outstanding fees, and we would appreciate you finalising payments as soon as possible.

Lost Property

Please ensure you label all children’s belongings as we currently have a lot of un-named lost property. In the office we are holding some miscellaneous items ie watches, sport collector cards, sporting medal, keys if these are not claimed this term we will dispose them.

Library Stocktake

As we come to the end of the year, the library is required to do a stocktake. Therefore, there will be no more borrowing this term.

This gives the librarians time to recover all books, including overdue and missing books in preparation for stocktake.

It would be most appreciated if you could have children search their rooms and the house for any books with a Manly Vale Public School barcode attached. Children can drop the returned books in the library’s return tray on any day.

Thank you for your help.

End of Term

The canteen will be closing for the year on 9 December. Please keep this in mind for the last week of school and plan for any frozen birthday treats you might need to order before this date. Orders for Birthday treats will be closing on 2nd November. Please make sure you place your orders before this date.

Order cut off times

Please ensure you place your order prior to 9.00am. Ordering ends at 9.00am to allow us time to prepare all the food and order the sushi for the day. If you have missed the cut off, please use the late lunch option rather than calling the canteen.

Birthday orders need to be placed by 1pm the day before (or Friday for Monday orders). This allows us to make sure we have the required stock to fulfil these orders.

Friday PSSA Lunch Orders

Don't forget, students must order through the 'PSSA Early Lunch' option on Flexischools, Not 'Friday Lunch'

Select YES to the PSSA alert so we can find your order easily.

**Remember no sushi or toasties** Your early lunch will be ready at 11.00am (recess)

Emergency Lunch Payments

The end of the year is fast approaching, please pay any outstanding amounts as soon as possible to help us finalise our accounts for the year. You can make payment via Flexischools using the IOU option.
