Principal’s Report
This week we hosted our annual Art Gallery Exhibition in the hall. Tomorrow is the last day to view all the beautiful artworks done by our students in their classrooms and as part of the talented lunchtime art program “Art Shack”. Please feel free to drop in this afternoon as it is open until 6.00pm or tomorrow afternoon after school until 4.00pm. Thank you to our talented art teachers Miss Hannah Taylor, Miss Ella Stoddart and Mrs Carol Speight who coordinated the art gallery and gave up their lunchtimes to allow our student artists the opportunity to be creative. Congratulations to all the students who had their art displayed this week in the hall and thank you to all the parents who came to visit.

Farewell Robyn Lambley- Canteen Supervisor
This Friday morning the school will farewell our canteen supervisor Mrs Robyn Lambley at a Friday morning assembly under the K-2 COLA at 9.00am. Mrs Lambley has been at the school for 6 years and helped transition from the old canteen into the new canteen, surviving a very difficult period of construction. Robyn helped move and design the new canteen and we are forever grateful for her expertise and commitment to running a professional and quality food preparation service. We wish Robyn all the best in her retirement and hope she can continue to do a lot of travel around the country now she is not committed to the school schedules and shifts. Farewell Robyn, you will be missed by all of us!

Leaving the school for 2023
Please email the school if you are moving away or intending to change schools for 2023. We are currently forming classes and employing staff for next year, and numbers are important to know for this organisation. Please just email the front office at manlyvale-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au if you are moving away next year.
World Teacher Day- Friday 28 October
Last Friday the teachers had a lovely morning tea supplied by our P&C. The staff enjoyed cakes from Mrs Jones, as a thank you from the parent community. Karl Treacher wrote a lovely message to the teachers (see below). Thank you also to Sustainable OSHC who also put on afternoon tea for the teachers. It was a great day, and we are all very thankful that we work in such a lovely school with a warm and caring community.
Note from the P&C - This World Teacher’s Day is an incredibly special and important occasion. It’s a day to reflect on and consider the enormous impact our teachers have on the lives of our children. An impact that shouldn’t be overlooked or undervalued. This year, more than ever, teachers at Manly Value Public School are dedicating all their efforts to helping our children emerge from two years of lockdowns and all the associated substantial social and educational challenges. The culture at Manly Vale Public School is healthy, prosocial and focused on quality education and while this sounds like any other school’s culture, it isn’t. As parents we are very lucky to have a group of caring, professionals united around the wellbeing of the most important aspects of our lives, our children.
On behalf of the P&C I’d like to thank Tina Lee and her leadership team in setting, directing and demonstrating an incredible student & learning centric culture that is universally embraced and by all teachers at the school. Our children feel safe, recognised, understood and inspired to learn as a result of the culture and behaviours of the teaching and support staff. While it’s World Teacher’s Day, it is also worth acknowledging the attitude and approach of the Canteen, Uniform Shop and after school teams in providing a social climate that reflects the school ethos 'caring and sharing’ and a mission to ‘Learn Together to Create the Future’. Manly Vale Public School clearly demonstrates that we’re better together.
On a personal note, I have spent my whole life in teaching - as a student, then teacher and now in higher education and I am always so thrilled to see and feel the attitude of the teachers at MVPS. Thank you!

NBLA Aboriginal Games and Community Afternoon- Thursday 13 October
A couple of weeks ago some of our Aboriginal students visited Harbord Public school to participate in a cultural experience with other Aboriginal students from 13 other local schools. The afternoon activities included weaving, dance, exploring bush tucker in the gardens, listening to the didgeridoo played by Jack Hickey our local AEO from Stewart House, and coming together for a yarn with local elders Aunty Lois and Susan Moylan Coombes.
The afternoon concluded with all the parents arriving for a smoking ceremony and families sitting together sharing their stories of their families. The event was an enormous success. Thank you to all of our 8 Aboriginal students and their families for attending the evening. We hope to host this event next year at our school.

Kindergarten Orientation 2023
Last night was the conclusion of our Kindergarten orientation program for this year. We welcome and look forward to seeing all our new students and their families next year. There is a picnic at Manly Dam for those families who would like to connect with others on Wednesday 23 November at 10.00am, otherwise we will see you all next year. Thank you to Mrs Oscroft, Mrs Abrahams, Ms Smyth, Mrs Tams and Mrs Mauger for their organisation of the Kindergarten transition program and to all the Parents from our current P & C who helped with the evening last night. Special mention to Karen Murgatroyd who organised all the catering and to Karl Treacher our current P & C president for his presentation last night.
P & C Meeting- Tuesday 8 November
Next week we will have our final P & C meeting for the year. All parents are welcome to attend the meeting starting at 7.00pm in the staffroom.
Inflatable day- Monday 7 November
Next Monday our Year 6 students will be running an “Inflatable obstacle course”. This Year 6 fundraiser goes towards buying a farewell gift for the school. All students will participate in a 1-hour session on an inflatable course set up on our oval. Mufti clothes or sports uniform is to be worn on the day.
Band AGM- Farewell John Logan
Last night we had our final Band meeting for the year. Thank you to all who attended the meeting. John Logan our president for the past 5 years has decided to stand down from his position. John has been a wonderful leader of Band committee and his commitment and dedication to the program will be hard to replace.
Thank you, John, for all your volunteer hours over the past few years in running meetings, organising payments for conductors, interviewing candidates for conductor positions, planning the performance calendar, and supporting all the committee in their various roles. Without a passionate and committed leader these wonderful programs fail to exist. Thank you, John, from the committee and the school for all you have done over the past few years. You will be missed!
School Fee Payment now due
We are now finalising accounts for the year and wish to remind all parents to check they have completed all fee payments for 2022. Picnic days and the Stage 3 camp deposits are about the only fees that now are remaining for most families. Please check your emails and accounts on our website to ensure all payments have been made. Thank you.
Traffic Survey
Just recently the Northern beaches Council conducted a road safety review around Manly Vale Public School in the endeavour to improve the current traffic conditions especially around drop off and pick up. A letter is attached to this newsletter for your review. Speed cushions will be introduced into King Street to discourage vehicles from speeding and inappropriate driving behaviour.
Council invites all community members to submit your comments to this proposal by 22 November 2022. Written submissions can be emailed to Council@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au
Parking Chaos- No Parking in neighbour’s driveways
Please refrain from illegally parking around the school during drop off and pick up. Our local neighbours have contacted the school and are asking that cars refrain from parking in their driveways. Please respect our neighbours and park sensibly and legally.
The front gate access and the car park next to the school should not be used as turning bays when you drop off your children. It is very dangerous when parents are doing U-turns in the carpark or school entrance especially when small children are coming to school using those entry points.
Thank you, Volunteers Morning tea- Wednesday 23 November
Please save the date if you are one of our volunteers for reading groups, maths groups, classroom support, canteen, or uniform shop helper or as one of our SRE or SEE teachers. The staff at Manly Vale Public School always put on a “Thank you morning tea” for our volunteers. This year it will be on Wednesday 23 November at 10.45am. Invitations from class teachers will be sent home within the next few weeks.

Year 6 Surf Education
Surf Education was an extraordinary experience. We arrived at Manly Beach to find amazing instructors ready to teach us water safety. Each class had two instructors and went to their first activity. One of the activities was at Shelly Beach. It was to help us feel more comfortable in the water and know how to float and tread water. Another activity, that taught us about surf safety, was body surfing at Manly. We waded (a way of walking through water) and learnt how to dolphin dive, necessary skills to efficiently move in the water. We did relays which connected us with each other and taught us teamwork. The third activity we participated in was surfing. We used boards to paddle out into the ocean and caught a wave back in. We got into groups of three and did races paddling on the boards and back. In conclusion, Surf Ed was an astonishing experience to end our primary school year.

Regional and State Athletics Representatives
Now that our Athletics season has come to an end, we’d like to acknowledge and celebrate our amazing athletes who competed hard to achieve outstanding results.
This year, we had an astounding 10 students compete at regionals:
Josephine Han |
Ellie Briggs |
Alice Larbey |
Ruby Tyler |
Jules Huisman |
Harry Jeffs |
Dylan Seymour |
Neko Beale |
Hudson McLaren |
Sabine Miles-McGuirk |
From all accounts, they had a brilliant day representing their school and zone and performed spectacularly. We are so proud!
Josephine, Ellie and Alice even managed to make it through to state which was held a couple of weeks ago. Incredibly, Josie came in 2nd place for the 8yr 100m dash. It was amazing to see such a feat. Unfortunately, the competition ends at state level for the 8yr and 9yr events, so Josie’s journey ended there, but was a fantastic result for her. Ellie also displayed amazing talents, placing 11th overall in 11yrs High Jump as did Alice, placing 15th overall in Junior Discus.
We are so very proud of all our competitors and wish them very prosperous future in athletics.
Tennis News
Alejandro was chosen to be part of the NSW team in which they represent the state of New South Wales in the Bruce Cup 2022, which is made up of 7 boys 7 girls, it is one of the most important tournaments played in tennis in Australia held from 22 from October to 29 October , in which each state competes with the other states in a race to demonstrate the skills, passion, effort and team support of the players. Singles are played in this tournament, as well as doubles and mixed doubles. New South Wales came in 3rd place among the participating states. Additionally, professional Tennis player Nick Kyrgios was putting up the medals.
Written by; Alejandro Bernal-Granados. At the start of Term 3 came the most exciting thing I’ve done in the school and probably in my whole tennis career. It all started, when I went through to zone for tennis, and then I made it through to regionals and played in the Sydney North team. The State Carnival was so much fun, the best thing of the carnival was when at the end of it, I got elected to represent NSW (The Bruce Cup). That is probably the most exciting thing I’ve done in my tennis career so far. In the tournament were players like Taiki Takizawa (1st in Australia) and in our team we had players like Ethan Domingo (1st in NSW). I played against very hard players too, but overall, I think that tournament was the best tennis experience I’ve ever had.

Canteen News
Farewell Robyn
After 6 years working at the canteen, Robyn has made the difficult decision to leave. Robyn helped to implement the 'Healthy School Canteen' strategy and was a key part of our COVID team that kept the canteen running over the last few years. Her sandwich making skills are unrivalled and we will all be working hard to fit as much on a sandwich as she can! Robyn will be missed by all the canteen staff, but we wish her all the best in her upcoming travels overseas and around Australia.
Volunteers
Thank you to everyone that signed up. It was amazing to have so many helpers in the canteen. There is still time to sign up for a shift before the end of term.
Please sign up for a shift at the canteen to help.
The canteen needs volunteers in the mornings to make sandwiches as well as at lunch to serve at the counter. Feel free to sign up with a friend to make it more fun.

End of Term
The canteen will be closing for the year on Friday 9 December. Please keep this in mind for the last week of school and plan for any frozen birthday treats you might need to order before this date.
Order cut off times
Please ensure you place your order prior to 9.00am. Ordering ends at 9.00am to allow us time to prepare all the food and order the sushi for the day. If you have missed the cut off, please use the late lunch option rather than calling the canteen.
Birthday orders need to be placed by 1.00pm the day before (or Friday for Monday orders). This allows us to make sure we have the required stock to fulfil these orders.
Friday PSSA Lunch Orders
Well done PSSA students, there was a huge improvement in the number of orders made correctly.
Do not forget students must order through the 'PSSA Early Lunch' option on Flexischools, Not 'Friday Lunch'.
Select YES to the PSSA alert so we can find your order easily.
**Remember no sushi or toasties** Your early lunch will be ready at 11.00am (recess)
Emergency Lunch Payments
The end of the year is fast approaching, please pay any outstanding amounts as soon as possible to help us finalise our accounts for the year. You can make payment via flexischools using the IOU option.
