Principal’s Report
Trivia Night
Congratulations to the organising committee for the wonderful Trivia Night last Saturday. The Halloween theme certainly brought out some wild and wonderful costumes and it was great to see so many parents back in the school again.
Thank you to Amy Hansen and Kate Williams and their committee who met for weeks to organise the event, obtaining sponsorship, distributing tickets, setting up decorations and then afterwards organising the pack up and clean up. The evening was such a success. It seems that the evening has raised over $30000 for the school to spend in 2023. The best fundraising effort yet!
Thank you to all the committee and sponsors who appear later in the newsletter.
Congratulations to the following students who won the school auction items:
Principal for the day- Benji Yung 1P
Morning tea with your teacher- Anastasia (1G) and Aurelia (6B) Sokolow
These wonderful days will be organised in the next few weeks. I am so looking forward to Benji taking over the principal job for a day!
Kindergarten Orientation
Last Monday we had our final kindergarten orientation morning, and it was great to welcome our 100 new students to kindergarten classrooms. Thank you to Mrs Oscroft, Mrs Abrahams, Mrs Mauger, Miss Smyth and Mrs Tams, for hosting our new students and welcoming them to their new school. Thank you to the parents of KM and KS. for the lovely morning tea provided to our new families. The next evening for new parents is Wednesday 2 November in the school hall for a “Wine and Cheese” evening hosted by the P & C at 6.00pm. School Fees
We are coming to the end of the year and there are still many outstanding schools fee payments required. Please finalise all fee payments online this week if possible. Mrs Lee will be calling parents next week to follow up outstanding payments.
Art Gallery- Hall
Next week the hall will be decorated with lots of the student’s artwork from Years K, through to year 6. This display will be open everyday after school from 3.00pm-4.00pm for you to view. An extended viewing time has been arranged for Thursdays until 6.00pm for those parents who work. Please feel free to drop in a view the work of our talented artists in the school.
Notes for Excursions and Events
All of our permission notes are now being sent online to parent’s email addresses. Some of these notes are going to “junk” mail or the “their” box in your inbox. Please check each week to see if you have a permission note. A list of notes sent home during the week will be out in the Bush Telegraph.
Changes to COVID isolation requirements
I hope you and your child/children have settled into our final term of 2022. I want to provide you with an update on our COVID-smart settings, particularly with the latest change to isolation requirements and what this will mean for our school. Please review the following information and do not hesitate to get in touch if you have further questions.
On 30 September, National Cabinet announced that from Friday 14 October 2022, people who test positive to COVID-19 do not need to isolate. In line with this announcement, the NSW Department of Education have worked with NSW Health to support all schools to adapt to this change while continuing to prioritise student and staff wellbeing by minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmissions.
Students and staff should continue to stay home when sick
Students, staff and visitors should only attend school when they are symptom free. We strongly encourage all students, staff and visitors to follow the Management and support after testing positive for COVID-19 | NSW Government . We will continue to send home students or staff displaying symptoms.
Anyone who believes they have been exposed to COVID-19 is strongly recommended to monitor for symptoms and test if they have any concerns, as well as wear a mask. We will continue to support our families to use rapid antigen tests (RATs) if symptomatic or if you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19. RAT testing may help identify the infection early and is important if you are in contact with people at greater risk of serious illness if exposed to COVID-19.
We are continuing our COVID- smart measures
Our school will continue to operate with our baseline COVID-smart measures in place throughout Term 4 to minimise transmission and keep our school open. This includes a combination of layered safety measures such as maintaining hygiene and cleaning practices, using rapid antigen testing (RAT) when experiencing symptoms, maximising natural ventilation, strongly encouraged vaccinations and strongly encouraging mask-wearing particularly when indoors and/or physical distancing is not possible.
Reporting requirements
Please continue to notify your school if your child tests positive to COVID-19 as we will continue to notify the school community of any known positive cases to prioritise student and staff safety and wellbeing.
Congratulations Josie Han- 3J
Last week Josie Han in class 3J competed in the State Athletics Carnival at Homebush in the 100metre sprint. Josie is very new to competitive running, but this hasn’t stopped her from running 2nd in the race and now heading off to the National Championships.

P&C Trivia Night – 22 October 2022
Oh what a night! With scary clowns, disco zombies, Cousin It’s, some very scary looking medical staff, ghost busters and of course the Hawaiians… a lot of fun was had by all. And how can we forget Freddy Mercury on stage dancing to We Are The Champions to end the night!
It was wonderful seeing the school community spirit reignited after a couple of years of covid and being unable to hold events. The guests had a ball, answering Fame Trivia’s questions and all thoroughly enjoyed the live auction hosted by our resident Pink Flamingo, Naida Entwistle. Thanks for volunteering your time Naida!
The goal was to raise $20,000 and with the support of our school community and sponsors we smashed that goal, raising over $30,000! Unbelievable! The money raised for the P&C will benefit all the children of MVPS.
We would like to extend a big thank you to Tina Lee for allowing us to run this event, the lovely office ladies for receiving all the donations and helping us with last minute printing and to Barry, our GA legend, who assisted with the set up and reset. We of course have to thank all the incredible families who supported the event by attending or donating prizes, our wonderful event volunteers and the awesome volunteer Trivia Committee who worked tirelessly to make this event a reality:

Stage 2 Excursion
By Savannah Lowe and Rhys Kawaguchi - 4S.
Stage 2 were getting prepared to get on the bus while the teachers called out the roles. Once all of us were on the bus, we drove down to the city to go to The Rocks. On the way there, we excitedly drove across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Once we got to the bus stop our tour guide came to pick us up. They led us to different places throughout the city. Our tour guide told us buckets of information about both the First and Second Fleet. We learnt that they started at Portsmouth England on the 13 May 1787 and ended their incredible journey across the seas at Sydney Cove on 26 January 1788. We dressed up as all the different people on the First Fleet including convicts, doctors, guards, captains and crew members. We went all over the city finding ancient buildings from when the First Fleet settled there.
We saw some dark clouds approaching above us so we headed back to school to have our lunch. A short 20 - 30 minutes later we arrived back at school. Luckily, nobody got motion sick. We were so lucky to go to The Rocks and learn such interesting things about the First Fleet, we are also lucky to have such great teachers to plan this whole excursion. Thank you to the parents who came along to the excursion, we are very grateful for your help.
