Principal’s Report

What a wonderful week it has been, starting with meeting our new Kindergarten enrolments and their families last Monday, at our first Kindergarten orientation. The rain didn’t deter the enthusiasm of our new Kindergarten students as they came to visit their future classrooms. A big thank you to Mrs Oscroft and our Kindergarten teachers for all the work and organisation that went into last Monday. All the students had a lovely morning in the kindergarten classrooms, whilst their parents listened to informative talks on our uniform shop and policy from Wendie, our canteen from Becky and our OSHC from Jordan. Thank you to our guest speakers for taking time out of their busy day to be at the Orientation. Thanks also KA and KS parents who returned the tradition of supplying a welcome morning tea for our new Kindergarten families. We look forward to seeing all our new students and families again next Monday 24 October from 9.30am-11.00am

Kindergarten 2023 Welcome Evening for parents

On Wednesday 2 November our wonderful P & C will host a “Wine and Cheese” evening for our new Kindergarten parents. This evening the Kindergarten teachers will talk about the transition into big School and representatives from the P & C will also be there to meet and greet and talk about ways to get involved in the school. We hope all new parents can attend this evening (without children) in the school hall.

Band Tour- Bathurst and Blue Mountains

Every 3 years we take our senior band on a tour of schools in another region. This year our band went to Bathurst and performed at Kelso Public School and Portland Public School. These little country schools were so appreciative of the performance from our School Band. Our senior band also were rewarded for all their commitment and dedication to the Band program, especially during the last 2 years of tuition online due to COVID lockdowns, with a visit to Featherdale Wildlife Park, Bathurst Goldfields, a stop in at Echo Point to see the Three Sisters in the Blue mountains and a trip around Mt Panorama on the tour bus. It was a wonderful three days away and a big thank you to Ben Dickson who arranged all these experiences for our band members. Thanks also to Ms Hannah Taylor and Mrs Monika Johnston for going on camp and helping with supervision over the 3 days. As a school principal I couldn’t be prouder of this group of children who played like professionals and demonstrated outstanding behaviour and manners over these 3 days. They were a pleasure to be with and all came back with wonderful stories and experiences to share.

Friday Assembly K-2 in Hall at 10.30am

This week our usual K-2 assembly will be in the school hall at 10.30am This is to allow for the Trivia Night to take the rest of the day to set up the hall for Saturday night. 1FH will be the host class and Principal awards will be given out on Friday.

Trivia Night- Saturday 22 October 6.30pm

This Saturday our annual school Trivia Night will be held in the school hall commencing 6.30pm. It has been a long time since we have had our Trivia Night and thanks must go to an enthusiastic group of parents for all their organisation bringing this fundraiser back.

There are many vouchers to be won and great auction items including homework free vouchers, morning tea with your teacher voucher and the opportunity to bid for the role of being a “Principal for a Day.” I am certainly looking forward to having a day off and getting the students run the school. “How hard can it be?”

The teachers also have a table and are keen to take on the parents at trivia. The night is a “Halloween Theme” and parents are asked to name and decorate their tables accordingly. Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes, volunteered to set up and clean up, and been a part of making this evening happen. We are all looking forward to it!

Money raised will go to the P & C who this year have provided:

  1. $35000 towards financing an additional Learning and Support teacher
  2. $5000- Makey Makey hands on science kits
  3. $100 000- playground equipment renovation (occurring in the Christmas holidays)

The P & C will need additional finds to support school programs next year. Please support all the P&C events.

Check In Assessments- Years 3, 4 and 5

Over the next few weeks our Years 3, 4 and 5 students will complete some online check in assessments at school. These assessments will be given during class time. Data from these assessments will be used to guide programming and planning for learning for 2023.
