Principal’s Report
Welcome to the final Bush Telegraph for Term 3!
Be sure to lock in the first day of Term 4 into your calendars: Monday 10 October. Students resume on the Monday as there is no-pupil free day on the first day back. Term 4 is an eleven-week term and the last day of the school year for all students will be on Monday 19 December.
Excellent NAPLAN Results
Recently the NAPLAN results were distributed to families of students in Years 3 & 5 who sat the national assessment back in May this year. We are incredibly proud of our Year 3 and Year 5 students and teachers for the excellent NAPLAN results this year. The assessments provide a snapshot of how students are performing against syllabus standards at one point in time. We only had full access to our NAPLAN data last week, so a full analysis of all results is yet to happen. However, I am delighted to say we have made great progress in both Years 3 & 5 and we are happy with the results. More details on our results as they come to hand, but we should certainly congratulate students and staff on their continuous improvement, a result of quality teaching and applied student effort.
Check in Assessment
Check-in assessment for Year 6 has taken place in Weeks 8 & 9 this term. Next term, Year 4 will complete the assessments in Weeks 2, 3 and 4. The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning. The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with a disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom. All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing task.
WH&S Evacuation Drill – Tuesday 11 October
Next Term on Tuesday morning our school will be conducting an evacuation drill. These regular drills are a way of practising and refining our processes in case we are ever required to respond to an emergency within the school grounds.
Teachers will brief and debrief their students about the event. However, please talk to your child if they can become alarmed by such drills and be sure to notify your classroom teacher.
Friday 23 September is the last day of this term, wishing everyone a wonderful and safe Spring holiday break!

Year 6 Peer Support Activity Day – Friday 23 September
On the last day of term, Year 6 students will be running a sports fun day, where they will lead small groups of K-5 students through a series of gross motor activities at Millers Reserve. K-2 will return to school about 11.00am for recess. 3-6 will remain at the park until 12:30pm and return to school for lunch.
This day has been designed to allow students to interact K-6, forming connections across the school, ultimately enhancing each child’s ‘Sense of Belonging’.
Students will arrive at school at normal time, walk down to millers Reserve with their class teacher, undertake three activities, eat recess, continue three more activities and then walk back to school with their class teacher for lunch. The afternoon session will be spent back in classrooms as normal.
Students should wear school sports uniform with sports shoes and bring a hat and drink bottle. The canteen will be open for lunch orders only, however all students will need to bring recess from home.
If the weather is inclement the day will be postponed and rescheduled to Term 4.
