Principal’s Report
Another busy week at Manly Vale Public School and the term seems to be disappearing very quickly. Thank you to all the parents who have attended and supported all the events this week especially those who offered to drive our Zone competitors to and from the carnival over the past few days. We are currently experiencing a lot of issues hiring buses for excursions, PSSA and other school events due to the shortage in bus drivers.
This has resulted in our Zone competitors having to be driven to Narrabeen this week. We are also having to move our PSSA Summer competition to an earlier start this season as drivers need to be back in the depot to do the afternoon school runs. As from week 9 of this term Friday 16 September all sport for years 3, 4 5 & 6 will begin at 12.00 noon to allow for an early pick up and return to school between 2-2.30pm. This will also impact assemblies for years 3-6 and SRC meetings, which will be now moved to a 2.30pm timeslot on a Friday afternoon, after sport. More details regarding this change in time for years 3-6 sport will come out later this term.
Congratulations Boys Senior A and Junior A soccer teams
Last Friday our senior and junior boys’ soccer teams played in the grand final of the winter PSSA soccer competition. Both teams have had a wonderful season. Congratulations to both teams on making the grand final. Our junior boys team are minor premiers so were awarded the win against Harbord after a drawn match. Our senior boys with 7 players out injured or away put up a great fight but were narrowly defeated by Manly West 2-1. The boys will all be awarded their patches at an assembly later this term as we are still awaiting the delivery. Thank you, Mrs Cash, for all your work with the boys over the season.
DanceSport School Event – Monday 22 August
Congratulations to all our Year 5 students on their performances of the jive tango, samba and salsa in front of their parents last Monday. It was a lovely afternoon and the students enjoyed demonstrating their expertise in ballroom dancing. The DanceSport program is about building resilience and self-esteem and encouraging students to positively interact with each other, in preparation for the challenges of leadership they will experience next year in Year 6. Thank you to Mr Jason Gauci on his patience and persistence in teaching the steps to our years 5 students and to our wonderful teachers Miss Taylor, Mrs Birrell, Mrs Cash and Mrs McManus for their support of the program. Next week our top 40 dancers will represent the school at the DanceSport Gala Event at Homebush. Good luck to all.

Book Week - “Dreaming with your Eyes Open”
This week we have had many wonderful experiences for Book Week. The book parade was a great success with lots of book characters on display. Thank you to all the parents who dressed their children for this exciting event. There were certainly some great outfits!
Our author talk done by Andrew McDonald, the author of the Real Pigeons Junior fiction series, was enjoyed by all classes today, and the children even got to become illustrators in their session. Thank you to Mrs Yardley and Mrs Morrison our two librarians for all their organisation in ensuring Book Week was a lot of fun for all.

Zone Athletics
This week on Wednesday and Thursday 30+ athletes represented our school at the Zone Athletics Field and Track events at Narrabeen. It is always a great day for our athletes to race on a professional track against the best athletes in our zone. Congratulations to all our students on their sportsmanship and commitment to the team. Thank you to Mrs Birrell and Mr Dylan for all their preparation and organisation of our school teams. Results will be published in next week’s newsletter.
Kindergarten to Gibbergong Environmental Education Centre
Tomorrow our Kindergarten students will travel to Gibbergong Environmental Education Centre on their first excursion for the year. This is always an exciting time for students. Every student will take along their teddy bears and have a picnic at the centre where they will learn about “Connecting to Country” and looking after our environment and ourselves. It will be a great way to finish a very exciting week for Kindergarten.
Botanical Garden for Year 2 - Monday 29 August
Next Monday our year 2 students will visit the Botanical Gardens and learn about the environment. Our year 1 students will go the following Monday 5 September. All students are looking forward to their first school excursion since their start at Manly Vale Public School.
Principal Awards - Friday 26 August 9.00am
There will be an assembly this Friday morning at 9.00am to distribute Principal Awards for Years 1-6. Kindergarten will not be receiving their awards this week as they will be off on their excursion.
Please be aware that we are not able to publish the students who are receiving their awards as it is becoming too difficult to predict when an award will be ready for distribution. Students bring in merit cards at all different stages of a week. These merit cards need to be recorded by Mrs Lee and the office team before a Principal Awards can be given. Most weeks all awards are processed by Thursday afternoon in preparation for the Friday assemblies however this system can at times fall down when personnel are away, or students forget to put in the award, or assembly has to be cancelled for some reason e.g. excursion.
The main assembly parents are encouraged to attend is the end of term Banner assembly. A personal invitation is sent home with the student once they have received their 3rd Principal Award. This assembly is on Friday 16 September (week 9). If you feel you should have received an invitation and haven’t, please make contact with the office.
With the changes in assembly times coming up over the next few weeks, along with the disruptions and changes to our school timetable, we will always endeavour to inform parents, but cannot guarantee the Principal Awards will be ready for these assemblies.

Athletics Carnival
Our field event day was a huge success and the weather was kind to us. Students participated in shot put, high jump and long jump to compete for the opportunity to represent Manly Vale Public School at zone level. Attached are the results from our school carnival, including the track and field events. Well done to all students! Ribbons will be presented tomorrow at the early morning assembly.
A huge congratulations to all our marvellous athletes who have competed at the Manly PSSA Zone Athletics carnival on Wednesday and today. They represented Manly Vale in true spirit and outstanding sportsmanship. We are always so proud of our students at Manly Vale Public School and this event was no different.
