OSCH Educator’s Day - Wednesday 27 July

Yesterday was a special day to thank our OSCH educators and acknowledge all the work they do in caring for our students before and after school and during the school holidays. Jordan, Matt and Emerson work hard to provide a quality service for all our students, and we really appreciate their professionalism and ability to work with the teachers and staff at Manly Vale Public School.

Last term they provided a great disco for all our students and teachers. Thank you to all our Sustainable OSCH team. We hope you had a wonderful afternoon! Thank you from all our school community!

OC Placement Test- Year 5 2023

Today some of our Year 4 students sat the Opportunity Class Placement test. These examinations are extremely difficult and aimed at the top performing academic students in Year 4. Congratulations to all students who completed these examinations today. Our closest OC class is Balgowlah Heights, Neutral Bay and Mona Vale Public Schools. Places in these classes are very difficult to get, and Manly Vale Public School usually only secures on average 1 -2 students a year in these classes.

Congratulations to Finn Adelbert in 5M who received a late offer this week for Balgowlah Heights OC class. We wish him all the best for a successful transition to his new school.

Education Week- next week “Creating Futures- Education Changes Lives”

As we reflect on the theme for this Education Week “Creating Futures” we are reminded that in this country we have the privilege of a free and accessible education for all. At Manly Vale Public School, we are very proud of our students and their achievements and celebrate that all students can participate and enjoy a quality education. We look forward to the future our students will create!

These last couple of years have not been easy for our students, teachers, office and administration teams and their families, but it is comforting to know that as a community we have worked together to maintain an education, whether it be face to face or remotely. This year has had its challenges also, but it has been wonderful to have parents back in the school and be able to have events like open day and the athletics carnival. We look forward to celebrating with you next week!

Athletics Carnival – Tuesday 2 August

Today we had our house meetings in preparation for our annual school’s Athletics Carnival. All students 8 years upwards can compete in the competitive carnival at David Thomas next Tuesday.

Due to the unpredictable weather and the state of the grounds we have decided to hold our K-2 Fun carnival at school that day from 11.30am. Year 2 students (who are turning 8 this year) have a choice as to whether they wish to compete in the competitive carnival or the fun carnival. All students from Years 3 to 6 must compete in the competitive carnival down at David Thomas.

Parents can go to either carnival to watch. The fun carnival at school will be a range of athletic activities including a 50-metre age race and some fun events. If it is raining the K-2 carnival will not be rescheduled.

Cake Stall- Athletics Carnival

A flyer is attached to the newsletter explaining the P&C fundraising event occurring at the Athletics carnival next Tuesday. Year 5 parents have been asked to make cakes to sell at the competitive carnival next week. Cupcakes can be dropped directly to David Thomas or the front gate of the school from 8:30am.

Cupcakes will be $2.00 to purchase, also will be ice blocks available.

All students are encouraged to bring in $2.00 to buy a cake for their recess.

If the carnival is cancelled or postponed the cake stall will still go ahead at school. So please send in your cakes and a $2.00 coin so students can purchase a cake from the cake stall.

Our book swap will be held during our Open Day picnic lunch, on the tables outside Café Owl.

Please bring your books to the 2LS classroom and place them inside the box at the door.

It was an extremely hard decision for our adjudicators in deciding upon a winner for each stage. All speeches were of an outstanding calibre but unfortunately there could be only 1 winner to move onto the next stage. Congratulations to Zoe Shalav from 3J with a speech on the topic “When I grow up, I want to be…” for winning the Stage 2 competition, and to Rafferty Lowe from 5T with a speech on the topic “If I were Premier for a day…” for winning the Stage 3 competition. Both Zoe and Rafferty will move onto the next stage of the competition and present their speeches again at Sydney Parliament House at the Bear Pit Public Speaking Competition on Friday 5th August. We wish both speakers the best of luck at representing our school and going up against schools from across the Northern Beaches.

A separate congratulations to our highly commended runners-up Abigail Wilson from 6W and Finlay Blanchard from 6B for fantastic speeches that were creative and technical, respectively.

We hope all students enjoyed the program and were able to improve their public speaking skills to some extent. Best of luck to everyone for next year.

Road Safety Review – Community Input

Northern Beaches Council has developed a schools road safety and active travel project to identify issues and concerns around schools and to encourage more active and safe journeys to and from schools. Manly Vale Public School has been selected as one of the schools we are reviewing this year.

As part of our review, we are providing a self-reporting opportunity for the school community to give us feedback using an interactive map.

We invite Manly Vale Public School parents, students and the wider school community to participate in the self-reporting opportunity using Social Pinpoint.

This allows you to tell us exactly where concerns and issues are for parking, speeding, walking, bike/skate/scooting, pedestrian safety and general issues, related to your school.

How you can help

  • Please share the link in your school newsletter and any school managed social media pages that parent’s access
o The online map allows people to indicate issues in specific places, and to categorise them with an image
o The associated survey provides us with some additional travel information
  • Please share this opportunity with students, parents, carers, staff and anyone else you think is appropriate – the more comments for Manly Vale Public School the better!

https://northernbeaches.mysocialpinpoint.com/northern-beaches-safe-schools

We would appreciate feedback by Sunday 21 August 2022.

This project requires a collaborative approach to ensure that we can develop and deliver improved road safety, parking and active travel school projects for the benefit of your school community and local residents, therefore your assistance in sharing the Social Pinpoint link is appreciated and necessary to ensure that we capture as many comments as possible.

If you have any questions relating to this, please contact me.
