Congratulations to our boys’ and girls’ School Debating teams on their successful debates against Balgowlah North Public School and Harbord Public School as part of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Both teams have had wins and losses and have certainly improved in their delivery and ability to build their arguments each time they debate. Thank you to Mrs Banham and Ms Webster for all their coaching and planning over the past few weeks. It has been a wonderful experience for all the students.

Arts Alive Choir and Drama Festival
Congratulations to our School Choir and Drama Ensemble on their selection on the Arts Alive Choral and Drama Festivals. I know all the students involved have been practising their performances and the hard work has paid off by being selected to perform in these festivals. Notes have been emailed to the Choir students this week. The Drama group will receive their notes later this week or early next term.
The drama group was led my Ms Webster and Mrs McManus and our choir by Mrs Mauger (Mason) and Mrs Warnock. Congratulations to all students who auditioned for these school teams. We look forward to seeing their performances next term.
Project Penguin Expo at the Zoo
Last Tuesday our year 5 & 6 students presented their projects at the zoo as part of the Project Penguin Expo for all schools in the area. Congratulations to all our students on their fantastic entries with special mention to our three year 6 teams who received a Highly Commended award for their projects.
This Expo was the culmination of a term of work designing and making a challenge to protect the Fairy Penguins in our environment. All stage 3 students worked with their Mackellar Girls’ Campus mentors in creating and designing an environmental solution to protect the penguins. Congratulations to all our students!
Dance Concert- Jungle Fever
Yesterday was our K-2 Dance Concert. It was a wonderful experience for all students in Kindergarten, years 1 & 2. The costumes and performances looked so professional and the students all enjoyed performing in front of their parents and families. Thank you to Miss Vanessa for her choreography of all the dances and to Ms Pembroke for her organisation of the concert! It was a great way to finish the term! Photos of the performance will be sent home via the Class Coordinators.
Our Dance Ensembles also performed at the concerts along with their performances at Glen Street as part of the Arts North Dance Festival. Both dance ensembles are to be commended for their performances at all the events over the past few weeks.
Thank you to Sustainable OSCH
A big thank you to our before and after school providers on organising the disco yesterday. Matt, Jordan and the rest of the team, led dances and games for all our students. It was great to see the teachers let their hair down and dance along with the students. Thank you for supporting this year 6 fundraiser.
Reports
This week all students should have received their Semester 1 report. This report is based on your child’s achievement in all Key Learning Areas this semester. Assessments are completed on certain aspects of English, maths, science, creative arts, personal health and development and history and geography. The report is an assessment according to stage outcomes. Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten), Stage 1 (years 1 & 2), Stage 2 (years 3 & 4), Stage 3 (years 5 & 6). If your child is achieving as expected for their Stage of development, they will receive a “sound” ranking. This is to be celebrated.
If your child is performing beyond stage expectations, they will receive a B- high or even A- outstanding ranking. If your child is working towards achievement at the stage level, they will have received a E- limited or D- basic ranking. These are the areas that students may be receiving additional classroom and teacher support.
Positive discussion about these reports is encouraged. All students need support somewhere and it is important to use these reports as opportunities to assist your child improve and develop.
Head Lice at School
We have had a few students sent down to the office with Head Lice (nits). An email went out this week to parents. Please check your children’s hair and treat accordingly. It is important that all hair that is below shoulder length must be tied up at school.

KA Yarning Circle
KA made a visit to the school’s Yarning Circle. We had a story-telling session, using both storybooks and oral storytelling. Ms Abrahams read us a story from a book, and some individual students told a story that they knew. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon and we cannot wait to visit the Yarning Circle again.
Kindergarten & Stage 1 Dance Showcase
We would like to sincerely thank all parents and carers who were able to attend the Kindergarten and Stage 1 dance concert on Wednesday 29 June. It was wonderful to have your support. Our students were super excited to present their dance performances to their families. We are certain you thoroughly enjoyed each performance and appreciate the effort our students applied to learn their choreography.
A special thank you to Miss Vanessa who has made dance a fun and enjoyable experience for all students. Her energy, drive and ability to engage every child is a testament to her natural ability as a dance teacher. Thank you to all our outstanding K-2 teachers who give their heart and soul to their classes, we sincerely thank you!
A special thank you to all the parents and carers who gave up their time to help support their child’s class teacher with costuming, hair and make-up on the day. Your time and support are always greatly appreciated.
The entire K-2 team would like to wish all our Manly Vale students and their families a fabulous, well-deserved holiday. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again in term 3.
Miss Pembroke and the K-2 Team
Dance Ensembles
Dance Concert- Glen Street Theatre Performance
Congratulations to our Senior Boys Hip Hop group and Girls Dance ensemble who have performed at Glen Street Theatre last week and this week as part of the Sydney North Dance Festival. They have been extremely professional in juggling rehearsals and additional performances for school and have delivered wonderful performances at this event. The boys’ and girls’ dance ensemble groups will be performing their last matinée performance at Glen Street Theatre on Thursday 30 June.
Both groups have been rehearsing at every opportunity and were very excited to perform again at the Kindergarten and Stage 1 Showcase on Wednesday 29 June.
A special thank you to Miss Vanessa for your creative and extraordinary choreography and your constant support. Your passion and love for dance is evident in every performance your choreography and every outfit you organise.
Congratulations to all the students involved and to Miss Vanessa.

Project Penguin
Project Penguin Expo
Stage 3 students have been undertaking Project Penguin a ‘design and make’ program this term. They have visited the penguin habitats at Little Manly, worked with Mackellar mentors and hosted a school expo. The final part of this engaging program was the combined Northern Beaches Learning Alliance Expo at Taronga Zoo on Tuesday 28 June. Manly Vale Public School has six group’s projects on display, of which 3 have been selected to go on show at Warringah Mall. Congratulations to all our Stage 3 students for embracing this project and a big thank you to their teachers for the time they have dedicated to the program.

Stage 2 Science Term 2
Stage 2 Science: Special Guest Naturalist
This week Stage 2 Science students were excited to welcome our special guest Naturalist and renowned author, Peter MacInnes. Peter worked with us to use clip on lens microscopes to discover new details of small things. We explored Australian native plants, moss, snake and spider skins and even our own hands. Look at some of the amazing microscopic photography by 3N and 4J.
Peter also shared his incredible knowledge of Australian flora and fauna as we wandered the school grounds. What a fascinating day! Thanks for volunteering your time, Peter!

Debating
Our debaters have completed their final rounds of the Premier’s Debating Challenge.
Last Wednesday, both teams debated against team Manning and team Bardoo from Balgowlah North Public School.
Manly Vale Foxes, as a negative team took on the team Bardoo and successfully debated that parents should ensure that their year 5 & 6 kids should spend at least one afternoon a week unsupervised. Manly Vale Foxes were represented by Emma Dixon, Thanusri Gadikota, Zoe Jelinek and Ava Lau.
Manly Vale Owls, as an affirmative team debated against the team Manning from Balgowlah North Public School and unfortunately lost their debate. The topic of the debate was that all parents should provide pets for their kids. Manly Vale Owls were represented by George Gregor, Curtis Puchner, Alejandro Bernal-Granados and Finn Adelbert.
Manly Vale Foxes and Owls ventured to Harbord Public School for a debate last Friday morning.
The Manly Vale Foxes consisted of Georgie Harris, Emma Dixon, Ava Lau and Maddie Smith who were placed on the affirmative team and had to argue that ‘Kids in Year 5 and above should have the option to attend their classes via Zoom’. Unfortunately, the Manly Vale Foxes were unsuccessful this time.
The Manly Vale Owls consisted of Finlay Blanchard, Curtis Puchner, Bill Knoyle and Alejandro Barnard-Granados who were placed on the negative team and had to argue that ‘Australia should ban Roblox’. In wonderful news, the negative team won!
The debating teams are looking forward to many more exciting debates next year!
Miss Webster and Mrs Banham would like to congratulate both teams for their efforts and dedication to become the best debaters they can.
