Principal’s Report
We are coming to the end of term and the build up to our K-2 Dance Concert. This week the students have been trying on their costumes in preparations for the big performance on Wednesday 29 June.
This year we have separated the Dance Concert into 2 session times:
Kindergarten: |
10.00am - 11.00am |
Years 1 & 2: |
11.30am - 12.30pm |
The boy’s and girl’s Dance Ensembles will perform at both concerts. A note will come home this week to all K-2 parents asking for a $10 contribution to the hiring of the costumes and purchasing of the props. We look forward to all our parents joining us for these special performances.
Congratulations to our Senior and Junior Bands
Last Friday night our senior and junior bands performed at Pittwater High as part of the Northern Beaches Festival. Both bands performed extremely well for their first time in front of an audience in over 2 years. We are all extremely proud of our band members and conductors for maintaining their motivation and commitment to the band through extremely difficult times.
Thank you to the committee John Logan, Hamish Bell, Katie Meyer, Cath Adelbert, Peter Witherby and Ruimei Zhang for all their “behind the scenes” organisation and to our wonderful teachers Hannah Taylor and Monika Johnston for all their support and organisation. Our conductors Ben Dickson and Carlos Villenueva need to be recognised for their ongoing enthusiasm and talent they bring to each rehearsal and performance. A great night of celebration last Friday. We look forward to our next performance on Wednesday 22 June at The Forest High school.
Kindergarten 2023 Open Day - Monday 20 June
We will have an Open Day for our prospective 2023 Kindergarten children and their families. Our school band and dance groups will perform along with the choir and drama group. Our school leaders will conduct tours around the school.
All interested parents of new Kindergarten children for next year are invited to attend the day. The day will begin at 9.30am and conclude by 10.45am. Mrs Oscroft and Mrs Lee will host the day.
PSSA games
Last week we had our first PSSA round of sport for 12 months. As the many grounds are still closed for use due to the wet weather and water damage. The PSSA committee have tried to reallocate games and shorten them to at least allow the children to have some game time.
It has been a massive job to organise buses and ground changes and we hope that we will have more grounds open over the next few weeks to allow a more normal competition. Thank you to all our coaches for continuing with training and doing their best to allow our students to have competitive sport.
Banner Assembly - Week 9
Our next Banner assembly will be on Friday 24 June. Parents have been invited to attend through a letter sent home. The final cut off day for Principal awards will be Monday 20 June.
Bus Stop Incident
This week a driver called the school to let us know that she nearly hit 2 children running onto the road following a ball at the Quirk Steet bus stop. It was in the morning and there were parents and adults around. Please make sure that when you are waiting for the bus in the morning that you supervise your children and do not allow them to play games at the bus stop.

Kindergarten Enrolment 2023
I know it sounds early, but our planning for 2023 has begun and our enrolment forms for Kindergarten 2023 have started “rolling in”. If you have a child starting Kindergarten at Manly Vale in 2023 or if you have friends or family in this position, it would be appreciated if you would encourage them to submit their enrolment forms and accompanying documentation (birth certificate, proof of address and immunisation) as soon as possible to assist us with our planning and administration. Online enrolment forms can be found on our school website.
Please see attached below for an overview of the 2023 Transition to School Program.

Reconciliation Week – 2H
During Reconciliation Week 2H was inspired to learn more about Aboriginal culture. We appreciated Aboriginal artworks where they use symbols to tell a story and created our own stories using Aboriginal art symbols. We read many stories for example 'Finding our Heart' by Thomas Mayor a story about the Uluru Statement. We particularly enjoyed studying the stories and artworks of Bronwyn Bancroft. We used our knowledge of Bronwyn's artistic style to recreate her story 'Why I love Australia'. We hope you enjoy our artworks.

Reconciliation Week
This week all students in K-6 received a Reconciliation arm band. We have been wearing them at school and at home, so we can start conversations about Reconciliation.
National Reconciliation Week provides a focus for working towards our goal of an equitable and reconciled Australia. It is a big part of our continuing Reconciliation journey.
Thank you, Mrs Lee for our arm bands!
What a great way to start a conversation about Reconciliation! Let us be Brave and Make Change!

K-2 Dance Concert
Our spectacular K-2 dance concert will be on Wednesday 29 June, with the dress rehearsal the day before on Tuesday 28 June. Information will come home via Class Coordinators and students about the details of this concert. Entry to the concert will be a gold coin donation.
This year we have decided to separate the dance showcase into Early Stage 1 and Stage 1, due to the increase of audience members.
The Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) dance showcase will commence at 10:00am.
The Stage 1 (Year 1 & Year 2) dance showcase will commence at 11:30am.
The students who participate in the dance concert will be invoiced $10. This cost covers costumes and props for their performance. If your child is going to be away on this date, please let your teacher know.
We ask that toddlers who attend the showcase be supervised and seated on an adult’s lap, due to the limited number of seats.
The school will not be filming the K-2 dance showcase this year. Unfortunately, parents and visitors are not allowed to film during the dance concert.
Thank you for your understanding.
Dance Ensembles
Each school group will have a live performance and a filmed performance during the Sydney North Public Schools Stage and Screen Festival 2022 in separate shows. Parents will again be able to see their children back on stage in the live performances and student performers will be able to attend the filmed performance and see themselves up on the Glen Street Theatre big screen.
Please refer to the Glen Street Theatre website for more information:

PSSA Lunch Orders
If your child is participating in PSSA sports on Fridays, please remember to select the PSSA option when ordering so that we have their lunch ready for them at the earlier time.
