Principal’s Report
We have enjoyed lovely weather this week which has been fantastic for our School Cross Country Day last Monday and the Project Penguin planning day for our Stage 3 students last Tuesday. It certainly feels like we are beginning to get back to some normality this week.
Our COVID case numbers are now very low with less than 10 students currently at home isolating but unfortunately, we have 4 teachers with COVID, and are trying to replace them for the week.
The easing of the isolation guidelines will certainly help with teachers being able to return to the classroom even if they are a household contact but completing daily RAT tests. Teachers have been supplied with additional RAT kits to assist with this vigilant testing, but it remains important that children and teachers do not come to school if they have COVID symptoms. Parents will be asked to pick up children if they have cold or flu like symptoms, unless they have a doctor’s certificate explaining these symptoms.
Students leaving early
Students are required to remain at school from 9.00am until 3.00pm daily. We have had a lot of students arrive late and picked up early which causes much disruption to classes and to the student’s routines and commitment to learning. Many parents are ringing and emailing during the day to communicate changes to pick up routines, and it is difficult to find students especially on a Friday when they are at afternoon sporting activities.
If there is a change to routines, 24 hours’ notice via email is required unless it is an absolute emergency. The office staff cannot guarantee messages will be delivered to students if they come in after 12.50pm (lunch) Monday-Thursday, as classes are often in different rooms and locations for afternoon activities and students can be difficult to locate in time before the end of day bell.
Friday afternoons- For years 3-6 students sport is conducted off site for most students. Messages and changes to routine must be delivered before 12 o’clock on Fridays if it is an emergency.
Teacher emails - Please do not email classroom teachers of an early departure on school days as they are on class and therefore may not check emails until after school or the next day in some cases.
Cross Country
Last Monday our 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 year old students ran a 2-3 km course around David Thomas. It was great to have such a lovely day and to see all the students competing in this event. The top 6 place getters for the race will go to the Regional Cross Country on Thursday 26 May. Well done to every student who participated in the event to receive points for their House! Thank you to all the parents who came down to watch and support the students and to Mr Dylan and the teachers for organising such a wonderful day.
Mother’s Day Stall - Friday 6 May
Tomorrow we will have our annual Mother’s Day stall organised by our Kindergarten parents. Thank you to Kristen Te Pania and the Kindergarten Class Coordinators for organising the stall and staffing the stall tomorrow. All students who donated a gift and bring in $10 will be able to attend the stall. The students just love this fundraiser as it is the first time for some of them, that they can select their own gift for their mums. All proceeds from the stall will go to the P & C to support the school with new technology, STEM kits for science and additional School Learning and Support officers and teachers this year. Thank you to all our families who have supported this fundraiser this year.
NAPLAN- Years 3 and 5 students
Next week on Tuesday 10 May (week 3) through to Friday 20 May (week 4) our Year 5 and 3 students will complete a Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy test. All the tests will be completed online except for the year 3 Writing test which will be done on paper.
These tests are based on the Australian Curriculum and content. Students are not required to study for these assessments however practice preparation and sample tests can be useful in the lead up to the days. Access to more information and some example test papers can be accessed through the link below.

Today the Healthy Harold Life Education Van arrived at our school for a 2 week visit. Every class from Kindergarten to Year 6 will visit the van for some interactive health and personal development lessons.

The students love visiting the van and learning about maintaining a healthy lifestyle from Harold the giraffe. The lessons go from 45-60 minutes covering positive relationships, cybersafety, the importance of physical activity and the impact of alcohol and other drugs. All lessons are age appropriate. The cost of the visit is $12/student included in the whole school program. Please make payment this week. A parent information session will be held in the van on Wednesday 18 May at 9.15am
