Principal’s Report

It has been a tough term for families, teachers and students with the rain, flooding and the ongoing impact of COVID isolation on activities, school events and attendance. It was great to see a drop in case numbers this last week and the return of some of our teachers. Please use these holidays to have a well-deserved rest and relax.

Congratulations to our Super Swimmers

Congratulations to the Junior Boys Relay Team, Jules Huisman, Joel Colwell, Hudson McLaren and Connor Matthews who swam at the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships on Monday. The boys came 4th in their heat and 12th overall out of the 30 relay teams! Also well done to Jules and Hudson who swam in their individual 50m Freestyle. Amazing effort to swim at State!

Congratulations to the Banner Recipients for Term 1

The following students received a School Banner last Friday at our first banner assembly for 2022. Congratulations to all these students in their commitment to our school motto, “Caring and Sharing and Achieving your Personal Best!”

Harmony Day Fundraiser

Thank you to all the students and their families who brought in donations for our harmony day fundraiser. We raised $665.00 in support of the Red Cross Flood Relief Charity.

Share our Space - Weekends in the holidays

The Department of Education is encouraging the use of school facilities in the school holidays. Manly Vale Public School will be open for community use on the weekends only during the holidays. As we have a very well-attended Holiday program, community will not be able to access the grounds from Mondays to Fridays, but the gates will be open to the public for the weekends.

Please feel free to use the school grounds and keep an eye out for those who may be doing the wrong thing. The School security number is 1300 880 021

ANZAC Day - Monday 25 April

ANZAC day falls at the end of the school holidays on Monday 25 April. We will have a remembrance assembly in the first week back at school run by our school leaders.

Staff Development Day - Tuesday 26 April

Students do not return to school until Wednesday 27 April as we have the ANZAC day holiday and the Staff Development Day at the end of the holidays. Students will enjoy an extra couple of days holiday and return on Wednesday. If you require care on these days or in the school holidays, please contact our wonderful Holiday care provider Sustainable OSHC.

Easter Hat Parade and Second-Hand Uniform sale - Friday 8 April

We are holding our Annual Easter Hat parade on Friday 8 April at 9.30am on the school basketball court and grass area. We hope the weather stays fine for the event however it will be cancelled if it is raining.

Our uniform shop will be open from 8.30am-9.30am for the sale of second-hand uniform.

NAPLAN 2022 Tuesday 3 May- Friday 13 May

Our Year 3 & 5 students will be completing the online NAPLAN tests early next term. These tests are a great way to see how our students are performing as compared to the rest of the state and country. All students must sit these tests so that necessary programs and planning can be made to assist our students in the future. Practice tests and information can be found by following the link below:

School Cross Country- Monday 2 May

Next term we will have our school Cross Country event at David Thomas Reserve. Hopefully we will have seen the end of the rain by then. Students may wish to start their practice these holidays in preparation for the event. Students who are turning 8 this year and upwards are able to participate in this event.

Health Harold Van visit Friday 6 May - Tuesday 17 May

Next term all classes will visit the Healthy Harold Van. It has been a few years since we have had a visit from Healthy Harold, and it will be a great way to start our Personal Health and Development lessons for the term. Thank you to Mrs Cash who organises the van visit for us.

P & C Meeting- Last Tuesday 5 April

We had our P & C meeting last Tuesday to discuss events and fundraising for the year. The P & C has already committed to the rebuild of the current fixed equipment at the front of the school ($77,000) but will certainly need to do some fundraising for the “wish list” presented at last Tuesday’s meeting. The science team want to build gardens for bush tucker, purchase some Lego and “Makey Makey” kits. See links for details:

20 laptops required repairing from the lending program done last year ($5,700), Band instruments ($4,700) and Learning & Support Personnel to assist all students in the classroom ($35,000). Our first major fundraiser will be our Mother’s Day stall run by our new Kindergarten parents. The Class Coordinators for Kindergarten will be emailing to establish a working committee for the preparation of gifts and coordinating the sale of items on the day.

The Mother’s Day stall will be on Friday 6 May. Please support the P & C fundraisers this year. All funds raised will go towards supporting the items above to be purchased.

Voluntary School Contribution - Whole School Fees

When you receive your whole school fees there is a “Voluntary Contribution” that can be made. These funds go towards replacing technology, employing an IT assistant 1-2days a week and supplying additional School Learning and Support Officers to assist in programs. We were lucky enough as a school to receive laptops and iPads from the Department of Education so that every child has access to technology in the classroom for learning. Without parents contributing to the replacement and repair of these devices, it will be impossible to maintain this resource for our students. Please contribute the $90.00 per child if you able to do so.

Canteen News

It has been a busy Term 1 at the Canteen. We have loved seeing everyone's smiling faces back at the counter at lunch time. We are looking forward to introducing some great Winter menu items next term. This term we have sold 593 Canteen made sausage rolls, 216 birthday Quelch sticks and a huge 327 slices of pizza this term.

The Canteen is open at lunch for frozen treats and snacks. We still encourage you to order as much as possible through Flexischools to reduce crowding at the canteen.

Frozen items for years 3-6 will now be handed out from the canteen after lunches have been collected. Kindy- Year 2 will still have their frozen items placed in their lunch bag.

Please remind your children to collect their frozen items from the canteen.

Emergency Lunch Payments

Please make payment for any lunches that have been provided by the canteen prior to the end of term.
