Principal’s Report

It seems that the COVID related absences for our students has settled this week with an average of 50 students away, which has been pleasing. Unfortunately, this week we have had a lot of staff COVID related absences with 8 teachers off this week. Class and school routines have been maintained in all classrooms despite the differing teachers and classes.

National Ride to School Day- Friday 25 March

Tomorrow is National Ride to School day. Mr Dylan and Mrs Lee will greet students at the gate and award those students who are wearing helmets, safely riding to school and dismounting at the school gate. Please remember to ask for a bike licence if you don’t already have one. This requires that students commit to safe practices when riding to school.

Congratulations to our Swimming Champions

Our junior boys swimming relay team Connor Matthews, Jules Huisman, Hudson McLaren and Joel Colwell are off to the State carnival on the 4th an 5th April to compete against the best swimmers in the state. We wish them every success in their events and are so proud of their achievements. Hudson and Jules will also be competing in the 50-metre freestyle event. Good luck!

Harmony Day Fundraiser- Everyone Belongs

Thank you to all the students who wore a Splash of Orange last Monday. It was wonderful to recognise this year’s theme that everyone belongs. As a school we decided to donate the funds to the Red Cross Flood Appeal. To date we have raised $630.00. Donations will be accepted at the office up until Friday of this week. Feel free to make a donation to this very worthy cause.

Bushlink Visit

Yesterday our Kindergarten students worked alongside the members from Bushlink to weed our bush garden located outside their classrooms. The Bushlink crew educated our students on local plants and vegetation and showed the students how to look after our bushland. All grades will have the opportunity to work with Bushlink this year.

NAPLAN Practice Tests- Years 3 & 5

Over the next few weeks our Year 3 & 5 students will take part in some online practice tests in preparation for the National Assessment Program -Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The actual tests will take place from Tuesday 10 May through to Friday 20 May. Results from these assessments inform the directions of learning for the schools and it is important that all students in Years 3 & 5 are here for these tests. We will be completing these tests online so practising the online component can be done through following the link below.

NBLA Leadership Day- Tuesday 29 March

Sydney North Swimming Carnival

Last Wednesday we had 11 swimmers compete at the Sydney North Regional Swimming Carnival representing Manly Zone. All students conducted themselves well, showing great sportsmanship and represented Manly Vale Public School with pride. The students swam their best and gave great support, with very loud cheering, for every one of their schoolmates. Parents were right in the spirit too.

Jules Huisman and Hudson McLaren made it to NSWPSSA State Championships in their 50m freestyle for 9 & 10 year old boys respectively.

The junior boys and senior boys 4 x 50m relay teams made it to the finals. The junior boys came 2nd in the final after a nail-biting race and have qualified for NSWPSSA State Championships also.

Boys and Girls Dance Ensemble Group

I wanted to say a huge thank you to the boys and girls who auditioned for the dance ensemble groups. It was an extremely hard choice to make as we have incredible talent at Manly Vale Public School. Miss Vanessa and I had 97 girls audition for the girls’ ensemble group, with only 20 being selected.

Our year 6 students Jake Sengchanh and Abigail Wilson have been elected as our Dance Captains for 2022 Congratulations Jake and Abigail. They will receive their badges this Friday 25 March at 9:00am Assembly. Jake and Abigail will host the K-2 dance concert in Term 2.

The boys’ and girls’ dance ensemble groups have been working tremendously hard at lunchtime to perfect their dance routines to ensure they are ready to perform to the best of their ability at the K-2 dance concert and at Glen Street Theatre as part of the Sydney North Dance Festival.

The boys’ and girls’ dance ensemble groups cannot wait to show you their astonishing dance moves next term.

Tell Them From Me Survey

Tell Them From Me student feedback survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 20 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 25 March and 30 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

If you do not wish for your child to participate please print off the consent form from the link below and please return the form to school by Thursday 24 March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from:

https://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents/translated-resources

Translated forms can also be found at the link above. Further information for parents and carers can be found at:

The 2022 Premier’s Reading Challenge was launched on Monday 28 February. All students at Manly Vale Public School will be encouraged and supported to complete the challenge. It’s fun, free and inspires students to read a wide variety of quality books.

Primary Students (3-6) wishing to complete the challenge are expected to do so independently, with support available from library staff as needed. Students need to read 20 PRC books and enter them into the PRC website by the closing date, Friday 19 August, to qualify for a certificate at the end of the year.

Reading lists and general rules can be found on the PRC website at:
