Principal’s Report
What a week it has been for everyone! I hope everyone has been able to manage to stay safe and dry though this incredible rain. It looks like we still have more to come this week. Safety around pick up and drop off is very important especially in the rain. Please refrain from double parking in the carpark outside the school as it is very difficult for students and parents to move through that area when the cars are blocking walkways and vision. It is better to park further away from the school and walk up with an umbrella than to try and park illegally in the carpark or outside the school.
Umbrellas and Rain jackets
Students need to stay dry during their travel to and from school and activities throughout the day. Please make sure they always have a raincoat or spray jacket in their bags that can be used during the day. Umbrellas should only be used outside the school gate by parents. Umbrellas are very dangerous when carried by young children, especially when there is a lot of children altogether. Children need to have vision when walking and often umbrellas end up with students getting poked in the eye or scratched. We encourage parents to supervise umbrellas and take them home with them after drop off.
Zone Swimming- Wednesday 2 March
Yesterday we had 40 of our best swimmers attend the Zone carnival at the Aquatic Centre. It was pleasing to hear of the incredible sportsmanship and commitment from our Manly Vale team. We’d like to thank and acknowledge all the students who represented the school this week and especially thank those students who had to fill in due to absenteeism in some of our swimmers this week. Thank you Mrs Birrell and Mrs Ward for all your organisation of the team, the ribbons and our school carnival. Results will be published in next week’s newsletter.

Class Coordinator Meeting- Thursday 10 March 2.30pm
Next week all Class Coordinators are invited to attend a short meeting before pick up in the staffroom, to talk through their roles and receive their class lists. Kristen Te Pania, Mrs Oscroft and Mrs Lee will be hosting the meeting to allow new parents to the role the opportunity to ask questions about their commitment.
The class email contact lists are being formed now from the information that has been provided to parents in class newsletters. Your name will not automatically appear on these lists as you must give permission to be included. If you haven’t already given your details to the class teacher through the google form, seesaw app etc then please do so by tomorrow Friday 4 March. An email was sent home yesterday with links to follow to allow your details to appear on these lists.
The Class Coordinator contact lists are only used for school communication from the teacher to the parents or from the P & C to communicate events and fundraising opportunities. These email lists are also used if specific information needs to be delivered to a class rather than sending a group email to all parents. The contact lists were also used during the home learning phase to communicate specific information from the class teacher.
Special Religious Education and School Ethics Education
Thank you to our volunteer parents and community members who have volunteered to teach Ethics and scripture classes on a Wednesday morning 9.00am. It is a weekly commitment for these volunteers, and we appreciate their time and effort in taking these classes.
We still do not have enough teachers to accommodate the demand for Ethics this year. Please notify the school if you would like to be trained as an Ethics teacher. This year we randomly selected students for the Ethics classes so even though you may have been in an Ethics class last year you may not be in one this year. A waitlist for Ethics has now been established for the year. Classes are capped at 22 students
Selective High School Test- Thursday 10 March
Next week 26 of our Year 6 students will sit the Selective High School Test. This test is extremely difficult and consists of 3 components. A Maths, English and General Ability test. Each test is 40 minutes long and will be administered at school in the year 6 classrooms. Thank you to Mrs Blackband for organising this test day. Good luck to all students who are sitting this examination.
P & C Meeting – Tuesday 8 March 7.00pm
Next week we will have our second P & C meeting for the year. We have welcomed a new committee and are excited to start a new year of community and fundraising events. Please email the secretary Karen Murtgatroyd manlyvaleprimaryschoolpc@gmail.com for the zoom and payment link. All members must pay a gold coin to vote on the P & C.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
Two students from each class will be elected this week to represent their class at our SRC meetings. Our SRC representatives bring ideas and suggestions for change to the meetings which are debated under the guidance of our Year 6 School Leaders. Meetings take place twice a term.
The newly elected SRC representatives will receive their badges on Friday 11 March at 9.00am. Parents of representatives are welcome to attend.
Good Luck Mrs Robertson
This week the staff farewelled Mrs Robertson officially with a morning tea. Mrs Robertson is due to have her baby around the 26 April. Mrs Robertson has been a very much-loved Kindergarten teacher and will be missed this year. We hope to see her return to Manly Vale next year. We wish her and her husband Dave all the best!
Welcome back Mrs Christian and Mrs McManus
Next week Mrs Christian will be returning 1 day a week as part of her transition back to school after her injury earlier this year. We have been lucky to have Mrs O’Grady on the class who will remain until Mrs Christian is able to attend school 5 days a week
Mrs McManus will also be returning to school next week after dealing with family issue in Scotland. Mrs McManus will take over the 5M class. Thanks Mrs Radan who has been looking after the class until Mrs McManus’ return to work. Mrs Radan and Mrs McManus will share the teaching for the first week to allow for a smooth handover and transition for 5M
