The assemblies were truly a celebration for all stages. Kindergarten will have their final Celebration of Learning assembly and graduation tomorrow and photos from this event will feature in next week’s newsletter.

Congratulations Ms Stacey!

Ms Stacey and her partner Graham welcomed Finn Wayne Kyle into the world yesterday 8 December. Our sincere congratulations to the family. Mother and baby are both doing well!

P & C Annual General Meeting - Tuesday 30 November

Last Tuesday we had our final AGM for the P&C. It was a very well attended meeting, and we were able to farewell James Fewtrell (President) and Tony Sherlock (Treasurer). Thank you to the following parents who nominated and were elected to the following positions:

President – Karl Treacher (Cleo 2LS)
Vice Presidents - John Gillings (Kathy 3J) and Chris Nicholls (Caleb 3/4T and Kenji 5T)
Treasurer - Peter Weatherston (Jack 2S)
Secretary - Karen Murtgatroyd (Sam 5BC and Niamh 2S)
Class Coordinator – Kristen Te Pania (Reuben 3/4T)

We look forward to a very exciting and productive 2022 with our new and enthusiastic committee. Our first meeting next year will be Tuesday 8 February at 7.00pm. All welcome. Minutes from the meetings can be found on our school’s website.

Farewell

We will be losing 20 students at the end of the year along with all of our year 6 students who are heading off to high school. I’d like to take this opportunity to farewell all our families who are leaving us this year and wish them all the best in their moves to new and interesting places.

Some of our teachers will also be leaving us.

Mrs Carly Rae - heading to Queensland
Mrs Clair O’Connor- takes up a permanent position in PLC
Mrs Emily Kilbane – returning to Collaroy Public School
Mrs Karen Bellamy - retiring from teaching.

Like at the end of every year staffing changes and it is hard to predict what classes and teachers we have until school returns next year. Although classes have been made for 2022 changes will occur between now and the start of school (Tuesday 1 February) for years 1-6 and Wednesday 2 February for Kindergarten (Best Start). If you are leaving the school, please email the office.

Outstanding School Fees

This week, letters have been sent home to all families (via their children) to collect outstanding school fees. The $90 voluntary contribution fee will go towards replacing 24 laptops that were damaged during the remote learning device borrowing scheme. It is important to finalise all fee payments as the school is unable to make up these costs.

Please be sure to make your payments by the end of this week by using the “payment online” option on our school’s website. Please call the school if you require a payment plan option.

Year 6 Graduation Assembly - Monday 13 December 1.15pm

Next week we have our final assembly for the year. Two parents per year 6 student can attend this graduation service in the school hall. Please make sure you QR code at the gate and be ready to show your double vaccination certificate prior to entry to this assembly. Please come earlier to ensure you allow enough time to complete all these procedures. You can start arriving at 12.45pm.

Year 6 Graduation Dinner - Tuesday 14 December at 6.30pm

Students only can attend this event. Parents may come and drop off their year 6 child and take some photos but must leave within the 15-minute time slot. Photos will take place from 6.00pm outside the school hall. All parents must QR code in and show their digital vaccination certificates.

Year 6 Clap Out Thursday 16 December at 2.45pm

The school will clap out our Year 6 students in cohort groups. Two parents only from each year 6 student may attend the clap out (no older siblings may attend) by entering the back gate behind Café Owl and lining the outside of the oval. Year 6 will walk around and farewell parents and then congregate on the basketball court for the final school bell. All parents must socially distance from each other and refrain from physical contact with the students.

Reports - Wednesday 15 December

All school reports will be sent home next Wednesday 15 December. They will be emailed as well as hard copies distributed with the children. Please be sure to file these reports for future reference.

Thank you to Manly Vale Public School Office Staff

It has been a very disruptive year and one that has required a lot of organisation and communication between school and community. I would like to thank all our office staff for their ongoing support and commitment to the school. Pam Davison, Luise Nealon, Annabel Marsden and Danni Wareham have attended school daily during the remote learning period and assisted with communication and organisation in implementing the COVID guidelines and procedures. It has not been an easy year and I would like to personally and publicly thank and acknowledge all of their work behind the scenes, ensuring students, parents and teachers all knew the expectations of the ever-changing guidelines and maintained the administrative organisation of the school.

Library News

As we near the end of the year we ask that you return all Manly Vale Public School library books so that we can prepare the library for next year. Overdue notices were sent home last week for students who have outstanding books on their account. You do not need to pay the amount listed on the notice unless you can’t find the book to return. Many of these books are understandably from before the learning from home period so please have a thorough check at home.

If you have any questions or issues regarding your overdue notice please email me at manlyvale-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and I will be happy to help.

Canteen News

As we approach the end of the year, please be aware that the Canteen will be running our stock down so as to avoid having excess over the holidays. This will mean that some items will become unavailable. We ask for your understanding with this, thank you. If you have any outstanding ‘lunch payments’ please pay via Flexischools IOU section.

Farewell Kerry

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kerry Smallman and say how much we are going to miss Kerry in the canteen as she finishes up at the end of the term. She has been instrumental in setting up the new canteen for the school so as to have a kitchen to work in that operates so well in the day to day requirements and a menu that has regularly passed the Department of Ed Health canteen menu check. She has been passionate about creating a canteen that is healthy, delicious, sustainable, offering a wide variety of foods. and creating menus that the students and teachers like to choose from. She has worked tirelessly to deliver this to the school community.

We wish her well in her new endeavours. Becky and I are really going to miss working alongside you.

Birthday ice blocks

If you are planning on organising/ordering from the Canteen, birthday ice blocks in the last week of term, please can you go onto the Flexischools website and order them by 1.00pm Friday this week. We will be making it unavailable on Flexischools for you to order them on the day for the last two days of this term. This way we can make sure we have enough stock available for these last two days. Thank you for your understanding on this matter.

Robyn and Becky – Canteen Managers

Ethics Coordinator & volunteer teachers needed

We’re looking for a volunteer from our parent community who is interested in supporting the school’s ethics program from term 1 in 2022 onwards. Ethics classes are an alternative to scripture, teaching our kids to think, reason and discuss a range of ethical issues. At Manly Vale Public School, we have a strong program, supported by a fantastic team of volunteers. Ethics coordinating is an interesting way of being involved with the school and a great opportunity to interact with our community.

The focus of the role is making sure we have enough volunteers to meet the demand for ethics classes, and liaising with the school to make sure the program runs smoothly. Coordinating typically takes about an hour or two a week. The role is completely flexible and can fit around your other commitments and you will receive full training and support.

If co-ordinating the ethics program or becoming an ethics teacher is a possibility for you, contact Cathy Chase at cathy.chase@primaryethics.com.au or 0414 784 272. For more information about the ethics program, go to www.primaryethics.com.au

Lorna Galt – Ethics Coordinator
