Principal’s Report
It has been great to welcome back all the students into their normal classrooms and routines. The teachers have been very excited to resume face to face learning and are now busy planning interesting activities and end of year celebrations.
Laptop return - by tomorrow Friday 29 October
All borrowed laptops must be returned to school by tomorrow. We are trying to clean and return all technology to classrooms ready for the check in online assessments next week. There are still 31 outstanding laptops. Phone calls will be made Friday afternoon to those families who have not yet returned the technology.
Afternoon Pick-up
Please try and be prompt to pick-up your children in the afternoon or arrange to meet them further from the front gate (older students only) to minimise congestion. If siblings are meeting up to walk home together or catch a lift, we are dismissing them at 3.00pm from the Café Owl area only. We do not want older siblings to exit or gather around the front main gate.
Siblings pick-up - Café Owl – 3.00pm.
Kindergarten pick-up - Admin gate and main gate - 2.50pm
Years 1 & 2 pick-up - Main gate – 3.00pm
Years 3 & 4 pick-up - Basketball gate - 2.50pm
Years 5 & 6 pick-up – Basketball gate – 3.00pm
P & C Meeting - last Tuesday night
Thank you to all the parents who attended the zoom P & C meeting last Tuesday evening. There were a lot of items discussed for next year including uniform, playground renovation, band performances, graduations and end of year events.
The parents who attend P & C are always so supportive of the school and it is a privilege to work alongside such an enthusiastic and positive community. With the resignation of our current President James Fewtrell and our Treasurer Tony Sherlock, we need at least 4 new positions to be filled for the start of 2022. The AGM on Tuesday 30 November at 7.00pm via zoom. If you would like to find out more about the roles below, please email the school or pop in and see Mrs Lee for a chat or email the P & C on manlyvaleprimaryschoolpc@gmail.com
It is imperative we fill these roles at the end of the year as the canteen, uniform shop, band and Café Owl all are run by the P & C. Without a parent body these businesses will be severely impacted, if not closed. The positions that need to be filled are:
- President
- Two Vice Presidents
- Treasurer
Congratulations Mrs Robertson, Ms Stacey and Ms Pembroke
Two of our wonderful teachers are now engaged. The wonderful Ms Caroline Pembroke and Ms Kate Stacey are now wearing engagement rings! We are all so excited and congratulate them both and their partners on this wonderful news.
Ms Tegan Robertson has also informed us that she is pregnant with her first child. Mrs Robertson and her husband Dave are both very excited to be welcoming a new family member mid next year!
What a lovely way to start our end of year celebrations.
World Teacher’s Day - Friday 29 October
Tomorrow we acknowledge the wonderful work done by the teachers at Manly Vale Public School. As a school and community, we are so lucky to have such dedicated and caring teachers, which has been truly apparent over these past few months during lockdown. The teachers have gone above and beyond to make the remote learning as easy as possible for parents, taking phone calls, preparing interesting and engaging lessons online, delivering awards to letter boxes, talking with students on zooms, liaising with parents to provide a collaborative and supportive approach to the remote learning.
Mrs Oscroft has been such a support with timetables, organisation, and negotiating the many changes to guidelines and procedures delivered by the Department of Health and Education, and her support of every teacher and the wonderful leadership team Mrs Speight, Mrs Blackband, Mrs Nelson and Mrs Ward has allowed our school and community to work together to support the well-being and learning of our students!
Thank you to every family who has delivered a message for the teacher this week which will be displayed in our staff areas! Most importantly thank you to all our teachers for all you do every day for the students and families of Manly Vale!
Fees - Reimbursement
We have refunded some PSSA payments by putting the refunds into fees in advance. The Year 6 parents will notice that the cost of the graduation bears and years books will be reduced due to these reimbursements.
Some fee reminders will be sent out this week. Textbooks and technology fees for licences and use are now well overdue. Please be prompt in your payment of fees.

Stage 3 News
Welcome Back
It is so lovely having smiling faces in classrooms again! A couple of important Stage 3 reminders…
Could you please check that your child’s uniform still fits appropriately. It is a difficult decision to purchase new uniform items when we only have seven weeks to go, however we have a few very important formal occasions between now and the end of term, where Year 6 are expected to be in full school uniform. It may just mean a hem needs to be let down, a white shirt or a new hat purchased. We appreciate your support with this.
Also in order to minimise traffic before and after school we are encouraging Year 5 and 6 students to make their way to/from school independently. We understand if there are younger siblings involved however, where possible if you can make arrangements to meet your eldest child further away from the school gate it would be helpful.
Year 6 Graduation
Year 6 will continue their Dance2Bfit program each Monday, in preparation for our end of year celebrations.
Year 6 Graduation Ceremony will be held at 1.00pm on Monday 13 December.
Graduation Dinner/Disco will be held at 6.00pm on Tuesday 14 December.
Both these events will comply with DET guidelines and at this time, one parent with proof of double vaccination will be permitted to attend for each event. We will distribute more detailed information closer to the date requesting RSVP of attendees.
2022 School Leadership
The 2022 Student Leadership process began in Week 2 with the YLead virtual incursion. The current leaders have spoken to Year 5 this week during a Q&A session about some of their responsibilities. Leadership self-nomination forms are due by Wednesday 3 November (week 5). Each child has received a form to take home and discuss with their parent. The Year 5 students will then shortlist their peers to 8 boys and 8 girls who will present their leadership speeches on Wednesday 24 November at 11:40am. Good luck to all those students.
Stage 3 Picnic Day
Our stage 3 Picnic day will be held on Thursday 9 December at the Manly Water Works.
Year 5 – 2023 Selective High School Application
Year 5 Parents were emailed the information regarding Selective High Year 7 2023 application process. The application window is now open and closes on Wednesday 17 November. All Year 5 parents must return the Expression of Interest note indicating whether or not they intend to apply online. This information assists Manly Vale Public School with data collection as part of the process. A hardcopy note has been sent home with your child this week.
Any questions please ask your class teacher or Mrs Blackband.

Winter PSSA Results
A decision was made to award Champions and Runners Up of our Winter PSSA Competitions as we had played 6 rounds.
I am absolutely thrilled at how well our school went in each sport. We are a growing school and can now say we are competitive against the larger Manly PSSA schools (Harbord, Manly West, Curl Curl etc) in the A divisions!
Thanks to all our amazing coaches. We will stage assemblies to handout trophies/ banners and patches when I receive them.
Below are the results of the Manly Vale teams who got Champions or Runners Up for the PSSA Winter Sports 2021.

Library News
Book Week Celebrations
Book Week is fast approaching so please start thinking about your costumes. We will celebrate Book Week this term during Week 6. Book Week is held annually and is a wonderful time to celebrate our love of reading and learn more about Australian authors and illustrators. The theme for Book Week this year is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.
Virtual Author Visits
We will be hosting popular authors Zanni Louise and Tim Harris for Virtual Author Visits during Book Week. There will be opportunities to purchase books from these authors and a note will follow with more detailed information.
Book Week Dress Up Day
Book Week Dress Up Day will be held on Friday 12 November (Week 6). Students are encouraged to dress up as a character from a book to celebrate our love of reading. Costumes don’t have to be elaborate or expensive – you can use things that you already have at home, including borrowed clothes or recycled materials. We will hold stage-based mini parades on the day and will take plenty of photos of the wonderful costumes to share with families.
Book Week Challenge
How many fictional worlds can you identify? Challenge yourself to figure out which books the fictional worlds appear in with our Book Week Worlds Challenge! See Mrs Morrison or Mrs Webster in the Library for an entry form. Entry is optional and you can go in the running to win a book week prize.

Canteen News
The Canteen is back up and running and it is so good to be making up lunch orders again for our students and staff.
Please note due to no volunteer help allowed, we only have the capacity to offer our service for lunch and only through Flexischools.
At present we can only offer a limited menu, a wide variety of sandwiches and toasted sandwiches are on offer. Sushi is available Tuesday to Friday and canteen made sausage rolls Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There is also a variety of occasional foods on offer banana bread, Anzac cookies, frozen ice treats, popcorn, etc and we have our delicious Emma and Tom drinks still available.
You can still order birthday ice treats for your child's class. If you order through us please let your child's teacher know in the morning, this really helps us.
Those parents that have placed a recurring order for the term could you please check these orders for us. We have had some orders come through for items that aren't available on our limited menu, we think you may have been so organised you got onto Flexischools before we had made the changes to the menu.
