Principal’s Report

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Bands on their performances last Wednesday night as part of the NBSWE Festival at Pittwater High School. It was a truly special night to see our bands performing live for the first time in over 18 months.

Leadership camp

Our school leaders Kate, Zac, Isabella, Atticus, Ari, Louella and Eliza enjoyed a night’s stay at the Narrabeen Sports’ Academy with 12 other school’s leaders. The group participated in archery, team bonding, leadership activities and designed an action plan around building vegetable gardens in the school as part of their leadership duties this year. A big thank you to Mrs Blackband who attended the camp both days to support our students.

Talented Writer’s Workshop

Last week 3 of our most talented writers in year 6, Isaac Sherlock, Mischa Kennedy and Atticus Lee attended a talented writer’s workshop day at Balgowlah North Public School. They worked with experienced authors and writers to improve their skills. Congratulations to these three outstanding writers for being selected to represent our school in such an enriching experience. Thank you to Mrs Radan and Mrs Ward for organising the experience.

K-2 Dance Concert- Wednesday 23 June 11.30am

It is our K-2 Dance concert next Wednesday. The following privacy and COVID guidelines will be strictly enforced for next Wednesday’s performance.

  1. No phones or cameras will be permitted to film or photograph any of the concert. Please leave your technology in your bags. A photo of each of the class groups will be sent home via Class Coordinators after the performance. It is too difficult to police visitors only filming their own child and the filming in the past has led to parents standing up and not allowing others to see the concert.
  2. Visitors are to remain in their seats to view the concert. Do not stand up during the performance and block the view of others.
  3. Two visitors only per family is permitted to attend the concert. Toddlers need to be sat on parent’s laps during the performance and strictly supervised.
  4. All visitors need to complete the QR code sign in prior to entry to the hall.
  5. Older siblings will view the concert during the dress rehearsal the day before.
  6. Gates will open at 11.00am to allow parents to sign in and move to the hall to be seated by 11.20am. The concert will start at 11.30am.
  7. A gold coin donation is appreciated to support the costs of the costuming and dance program but is not compulsory.

The performance will conclude at around lunchtime and parents and visitors are asked to leave the school promptly to allow students to resume normal lunchtime activities.

Reports- Semester 2

Our semester 2 reports will go home with students next Wednesday 23 June. The reports are a reflection of your child’s progress in the first two terms of this year. A “sound” ranking means that your child has achieved the expected standard in the outcomes of that Key learning area for their grade. High and Outstanding assessment rankings are only given if the student is producing work above the standard of the grade.

The reports will be emailed to parents and families as well this year. We are thinking that this is a better option for families wanting to keep and archive reports for later use. We will also discuss in the next P & C meeting whether to only email reports at the end of the year or keep the hard copy as well.

Banner Assembly- Friday 18 June

This Friday will be our term’s Banner assembly presentation. Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving a Banner on Friday reflecting their ability to abide by our school’s motto of “Caring and Sharing and Achieving your Personal Best.” Two visitors per recipient will be permitted to attend the Banner assembly under the K-2 COLA on Friday at 9.00am. Please make sure you sign in at the office and then move up to the COLA rea by 9.00am.

Dance Ensembles – Glen Street Performance

Congratulations to our Senior Boys Hip Hop group and Girls Dance ensemble who have performed at Glen Street Theatre this week as part of the Sydney North Dance Festival. They have been extremely professional in juggling rehearsals and additional performances for school and have delivered wonderful performances at this event. Both groups have been rehearsing at every opportunity and are very excited to perform again at the K-2 Showcase on Wednesday 23 June.

Congratulations to all the students involved and to Miss Vanessa for her choreography. Thank you Mrs Martin and Miss Pembroke for their organisation and support. A great week for all students involved.

Touch Football News

On Wednesday 10 June Eve Goldsworthy (6B) and Lexi Slatter (6D) represented the Manly/Pittwater Girls Touch Football team at the Sydney North trials held at Narrabeen. The coach Natalie Hanlon from Harbord said, “The girls worked fabulously as a team. They were a credit to themselves and their respective schools both on and off the field.”

The Manly Pittwater girls went through undefeated, winning the final 4-1 against Southern Central Coast. Eleven of the Manly girls made it through to possible and probables and seven girls were selected in the Sydney North team to play at the state carnival in Penrith in August. Both Eve and Lexi were successful in being selected in this team. Congratulations girls, an amazing result!

Café Owl Open

Café Owl Open on Friday at 8.00am!

Come along and catch up with friends over a delicious breakfast. There will be bacon and egg rolls, hash browns and fresh coffee made by the cafe's dedicated band of parent volunteers. We are cash only at the moment but are busily working on a 'tap and go' facility.

For those who haven't experienced Cafe Owl, it's in the old canteen - next to the school car park. Cafe Owl raises money for the P&C, contributing to purchases for the school. The cafe has been running for many years, originally sharing the space with the school canteen and then with the builders while the new school was built.

We’d love to hear from anyone who might be able to help out on Fridays. Please email Bec at rbccllyd@gmail.com to sign up or to ask any questions.

We have had a few volunteers take their name off the roster which has left us short of a volunteer, which greatly impacts us in the running of that day in the canteen. If you can't do your shift please find a replacement and let the canteen know of the change via email or phone the school.

Please don't just take your name off the roster manlyvalepscanteen@gmail.com
