Principal’s Report

Congratulations to Kayla Davies in year 6 on her inclusion into the Merit category of the State diving team. An incredible effort. Hours of training certainly has paid off.

P & C Playground Initiative

All the students have now selected their final choice of playground equipment and we are now in the process of applying to the Department of Education for approval to build and replace the current equipment. Thank you to everyone who has generously supported the P & C fundraisers this year.

Café Owl Grand Opening - Friday 11 June

This Friday our P & C run Café Owl, will re-open for the first time in 18 months. A big thank you to Rebecca Lloyd, Chris Nicholls and their team of volunteers for the work they have done in preparing the canteen and organising rosters. Café Owl is a very popular venue on Friday morning serving bacon and egg rolls for students and parents. Students may sit with their parents outside the old canteen, students without parents must go to the supervised areas under the COLAs.

Congratulations Junior and Senior Band

Last Wednesday night our junior and senior bands performed at Pittwater High School as part of the NBSWE Festival. It has been the first time our school bands have been able to perform in front of an external audience for over 12 months. Congratulations to both bands and their conductors Carlos and Ben on their performances. We look forward to our Band camp on 16 July-18 July to further improve our skills in preparation for our next festival and Open Day performances.

Stranger Danger

This week we have spoken to all students regarding strategies to use if spoken to by a stranger. “No, Go Tell” is the language we have used to encourage students to quickly halt conversation with strangers, go to a safe place where there is a trusted adult and tell that adult what has happened. This has been in response to an incident last weekend where 2 of our students were approached by a stranger. Please go over safe strategies with your children and be vigilant with supervision until the perpetrator has been caught. The police are well aware of the situation but feel free to call them if you have any further information or incidences.

NBLA Leadership Camp

Next week our year 6 leaders Isabella Earl, Zak Nethery, Kate Fewtrell, Atticus Lee, Louella Goodsir, Ari Goodsir and Eliza Toole will all attend a combined leadership camp with 12 other primary school leaders. The leaders will participate in leadership activities and work with other year 6 leaders to come up with action plans for the remainder of the year. Unfortunately, Alex Matheson is unable to attend as he is at State Rugby those days. Good luck Alex!

Thank you to Mrs Blackband who has offered to supervise the camp on both days.

Good Luck to our School Dance Ensembles

Next week our boy’s Hip Hop and girl’s contemporary dance groups will perform as part of the Northern Sydney Dance Festival. This year it is a filmed event. The dance groups have been rehearsing every week in the lead up to this major event. Thank you to Miss Vanessa for her choreography and to Miss Pembroke and Mrs Martin for their organisation of the 2 groups. We as a school will look forward to seeing them perform next term as part of the Open Day celebrations.

Banner Assembly - Friday 18 June

Congratulations to all the students below on receiving their School Banner at the official ceremony next Friday 18 June. The assembly will start at 9.00am under the K-2 COLA with 2 parents per child able to come and watch the presentation. All parents should have received an individual invitation to the assembly. Photos of the ceremony will appear in next week’s newsletter.

K-2 Dance Concert - Wednesday 23 June 11.30am

We will finish our K-2 dance program this term with a final dance concert on Wednesday 23 June at 11.30am. There will be a dress rehearsal the day before. It is always an exciting event and we look forward to sharing all the dance moves we’ve learnt this semester.

Reports

Our end of Semester 1 reports will go home on Wednesday 23 June. This year we will be sending the hard copies home along with emailing a digital copy for your records. These reports should be stored in a safe place for future reference especially for those children who are moving schools or trying to apply for placements in private schools or extension classes in high schools.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Local Schools Final

Manly Vale had the privilege of hosting the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition local schools final. Our Manly Vale finalists were up against other local school’s finalists from across the Northern region, presenting their prepared speeches and competing in an impromptu speaking round.

Congratulations to Jason Robison, Emma Dixon, Georgia Harris and Abigail Wilson, our Manly Vale representatives. Whilst we haven’t progressed to the next level in the competition, we are incredibly proud of the efforts and achievements of these four in-school finalists and congratulate them on getting to this level of the competition. Thank you also to all the parents who attended for supporting our students on the day.

Mrs Lucey and Mrs Banham

Early Stage 1 Science

This term in science kindergarten has been learning about push and pull forces. Kindergarten had a lot of fun putting their scientific knowledge to the test. They designed and built their own marble runs. Kindergarten learned that scientist’s designs do not work the first time and need adjusting to achieve the desired result. Students were over joyed with their marble runs!

Mrs Holman

Year 2 STEAM

Year 2 have been enjoying STEAM activities. Take a look at our parachutes and rollercoasters!

Rugby Gala Day

On Thursday 3 June the boys junior and senior Rugby League teams and the girls senior 7 a-side team went to Nolan’s Reserve to play in a Rugby League Gala Day.

This was our first time playing Rugby League for most of us. Thirty eight children went down to Nolans Reserve to play Rugby League. This was the first year that a team of girls represented Manly Vale in this sport. It was so much fun and we enjoyed it a lot. Sadly we only played 3 games (instead of 4) because of the weather. We won our 1st game 5-1 against Balgowlah North, then we lost 6-5 against Newport, finally we drew 5 all against Mona Vale. There were a few hard tackles but we got up and kept playing. It was so much fun and we encourage other girls to play Rugby League as well.

Thank you, Mrs Ward for coaching the boys and organising the gala day and thank you Miss Taylor for coaching the girls. Thanks to all the parents who transported us to and from the oval and lastly thank you to the players who showed up and played their hearts out in the pouring rain.

By Eliza and Hannah (on behalf of the rugby girls)

Congratulations Harry Bromiley

Congratulations Harry Bromiley (6W) who played in the Sydney North Rugby League Team at the PSSA State Championships. His team went through unbeaten in their pool. They played their semi-final but unfortunately lost 0-4 in a very tough game. They played 7 games of football and won 6 of them coming 3rd overall. Harry was awarded Best & Fairest for the Carnival for Sydney North. Legendary effort Harry!

Café Owl Reopening – Friday 11 June 2021

Café Owl reopens on Friday at 8.00am!

Come along and catch up with friends over a delicious breakfast. There will be bacon and egg rolls, hash browns and fresh coffee made by the cafe's dedicated band of parent volunteers. We are cash only at the moment but are busily working on a 'tap and go' facility.

For those who haven't experienced Cafe Owl, it's in the old canteen - next to the school car park. Cafe Owl raises money for the P&C, contributing to purchases for the school. The cafe has been running for many years, originally sharing the space with the school canteen and then with the builders while the new school was built.

We’d love to hear from anyone who might be able to help out on Fridays. Please email Bec at rbccllyd@gmail.com to sign up or to ask any questions.
