Principal’s Report
This week we have had the Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN Writing tests and the Year 5 Reading tests. The remainder of the tests for years 3 and 5 continue next Monday. It is important that all students have a good night’s sleep and arrive at school before 9.00am on these days. The tests begin promptly at 9.00 am each morning and students arriving late do cause disruption and anxiety for both themselves and others sitting the test.
Next week’s timetable:
Monday 17 May - Year 3
Reading/Year 3 Language Conventions
Tuesday 18 May - Year 5 Language
Conventions
Wednesday 19 May - Year 5 Numeracy
Thursday 20 May - Year 3 Numeracy
It is important that all students sit these assessments as the data collected does inform future funding support for the school, school decision making regarding directions and focus for learning. Tomorrow Friday 14 May will be a catch-up day for any students who missed assessments this week.
Band Meeting - Wednesday 12 May 7.00pm
Thank you to all the parents who attended the Band meeting last Wednesday. Discussion regarding the band camp and future performances was very productive. Thank you to John Logan (President), Helena Edgerton (Secretary), Ruimei Zhang (Treasurer), Chris Nicholls, Cath Adelbert, Glenys Beaumont, Shay Gillings and Katie Meyer for supporting the band program in your attendance at meetings and organisation of performances and the Band Camp.
Our Band program has grown considerably this year with the musical leadership of both Ben and Carlos, along with the support of our teachers Hannah Taylor and Monika Johnson.
Our Band Camp will be on Friday 16 July - Sunday 18 July. The teachers, conductors and Mrs Lee will be attending the camp. Notes and information will come home later this term.
Monday 17 May - Bushlink Return
Next Monday our Bushlink team will be returning to work on some of the overgrown areas of garden. The students will not be participating in this event next week. This day is an extra volunteer day that Bushlink are providing as a favour to the school. We are certainly very thankful to have any additional help with our gardens and maintenance.
There will be an opportunity for parents also to come and offer some assistance in our garden on Monday 31 May from 9.15am. Please inform the office if you are able to help out that day.
COVID Guidelines
Please remember to keep your child at home if they are unwell and if they are displaying any symptoms you must send the school a negative COVID test result, before they are to return. Sore throat, coughs and runny noses are very common at this time of year and although it is an inconvenience both staff and students must be COVID tested before they are able to return to school.
National Walk Safely to School Day – 14 May
Tomorrow all students are encouraged to walk safely to school. Students may like to walk in friendship groups or with the other students in their street. Students will be greeted at the gate with stickers if they make the effort to walk to school on this day.
Mother’s Day Stall - Thank You
Last Friday we had our annual Mother’s Day stall. All students visited the stall to purchase a lovely gift for their mums. Thank you to Karen Murtgatroyd and Kristen Te Pania for all their work and organisation of the raffle and the stall, with special thanks to all our Kindergarten parents who helped set up and pack up the stall. The donation of gifts was extremely generous from all our community and I hope all our mums enjoyed opening their hand selected gifts from our students.
The event raised $11,000 which will go towards replacing our new playground equipment with a cost of around $70,000. Thank you to everyone in our community for supporting this fantastic fundraising event. We look forward to many more fundraising events in the future.

Canteen News
URGENT HELP NEED IN THE CANTEEN
The Canteen is requiring more volunteers for the rest of the term. The following days/dates next week are most urgent but there are still many slots open throughout the rest of the term. The canteen cannot run at 100% without this help and could cause it to either shut on the days without helpers or the vast menu may have to be limited. Both options would be devastating to implement, and would have such an impact on a service that is so well used. No experience is needed and it’s a great way to see the school in action.
Tuesday 18 May -
9.00-11.30am
Thursday 20 May – 9.00 -11.30am
Friday 21 May – 9.00 -11.30am
The 9.00-11.30am shift involves helping to make/prepare students recess and lunch orders plus serving at the counter at recess.

Flexischool’s orders
At the start of this term we have had to change the way children collect their Flexischool ordered frozen ice treats. Could you please remind them, if they have a frozen treat that they have to pick them up separately.
They have been given instructions on where and when to pick them up, we are just not wanting them to forget to check their lunch bag to see if they have a frozen treat and a helpful reminder in the morning from you would be really helpful.
Thanks for your help in this matter.

Stewart House Donation Drive 2021
Celebrating 90 years of caring for public school children in need from all parts of NSW and the ACT. Our journey began with the vision and drive of the staff of NSW public schools, who petitioned for a facility to address the declining health of school children during the height of the Great Depression. Into our future, as is repeated throughout our rich 90-year history, we will continue to deliver our unique residential program by adapting to the ever-changing landscape of hardships encountered by thousands of children.
The Stewart House Donation Drive has been our major annual fundraising event in NSW public schools. Staff and students are encouraged to enter the draw, for as little as $2.00, you could win a prize valued at $4,000. Envelopes have been distributed and are due back by no later than Wednesday 19 May 2021.
