All the teachers are feeling rested and relaxed and are looking forward to another busy term with dance concerts, report writing, cross-country carnivals, NAPLAN, Interrelate and leadership camp.

Welcome back Mrs Nelson

Our K-2 students will participate in a gardening and weeding session next Tuesday 27 April. Students in all classes from K-2 are encouraged to bring gardening gloves from home on this day.

DanceSport Year 5

Our Year 5 students will begin their ballroom dance program on a Monday. All students in year 5 will participate in the program to learn the cha cha, tango, jive and waltz. The program also teaches respectful interactions between peers and encourages and develops positive relationships along with leadership skills. A gala event will be held at the end of the program in term 3 at school. Please remember to make a payment for this program online through our school website.

Canteen

We need volunteers to assist in the canteen. We are receiving a lot of orders and therefore need to have more parents working in the canteen. Year 6 students have been asked to assist to fill the gaps in volunteers as a temporary measure. If you are able to volunteer some of your time or wish to enquire about the commitment please email Kerry or Robyn at:

Manlyvalepscanteen@gmail.com

Canteen - outstanding payments

There are still many families who have not sorted outstanding accounts with the canteen. This term students will be sent to the office if they do not have lunch and require something from the canteen. Students will be given a plain sandwich and fruit if they have forgotten their lunch and an invoice will be sent home with them. Payment of this invoice would be appreciated within the week it is given.

Farewell Mrs Curran - School Counsellor

Last term we farewelled our school Counsellor Mrs Deborah Curran with a morning tea presenting her with her medal representing 40 years of service to the Department of Education. Mrs Curran has been a support to teachers, parents and students at our school.

We welcome Ms Cliona Mulloy to the school counsellor role this term. Ms Mulloy comes from Lane Cove West Public School and will be at Manly Vale Public School on a Tuesday (whole day) and Wednesday (half day).

Lost Property

Every Thursday items of school uniform that have been lost will be placed at the front entrance of the school for you to view and take. Usually items with names on them are returned to the student in the course of the week. Items with no names will be placed at the front of the school each Thursday for collection. There are currently many expensive drink bottles with no names on them left from last term, that require collection.

Kayla Davies

At the PSSANSW Diving State Championship held at Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 31 March, Kayla Davies (6R) came 2nd in the U11 Springboard event and 2nd in the Open Platform event. She was also selected to be on the NSWPSSA State Diving Merit Team that would have represented NSW at the School Sport Australia Diving Championships if they weren’t cancelled. On Sunday 14 March, she competed in the 2021 NSW Age Diving Championships and has qualified for the 2021 Australian Elite Junior Diving Championships to be held in July. Fingers crossed it goes ahead.

Learning Support

Volunteers needed!

Parents, carers, grandparents, relatives, friends and members of the community – We need your help!

Do you have a spare morning to help some students with literacy?

We are looking for volunteers to support our students with developing their reading skills. This is separate to the work that children carry out in the classroom. The lessons are prescribed and you will be given all the necessary training and resources to support the delivery of the program. Volunteers will be working with children from years 2-6 in the break-out spaces between classrooms. If you are able to come in one or two mornings per week we would love to hear from you!

If you enjoy working with children and would like to be part of our school community please email the school with contact details with ATTN to: The LST Literacy program. You will require a free voluntary Working with Children Check from Service NSW. You will be contacted to arrange a time to complete the training. It is a fabulous and rewarding experience to support the development of children’s learning. We look forward to hearing from you!

Stewart House Donation Drive 2021

Celebrating 90 years of caring for public school children in need from all parts of NSW and the ACT. Our journey began with the vision and drive of the staff of NSW public schools, who petitioned for a facility to address the declining health of school children during the height of the Great Depression. Into our future, as is repeated throughout our rich 90-year history, we will continue to deliver our unique residential program by adapting to the ever-changing landscape of hardships encountered by thousands of children.

The Stewart House Donation Drive has been our major annual fundraising event in NSW public schools. Staff and students are encouraged to enter the draw, for as little as $2.00, you could win a prize valued at $4,000. Envelopes were distributed this week and are due back by no later than Wednesday 19 May 2021.
