Principal’s Report
It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of our first term. Tomorrow we will have our first Banner assembly for the year. Congratulations to the following students on receiving a School Banner. Parents are invited to attend the assembly which will be held under the K-2 COLA on Friday 26 March at 9.00am. Congratulations to the following students:
Niamh Murgatroyd, Tasha Markezic, Harry Bradley, Desmond Miller, Alice Spence, Charli Lehmann, Anna Jing, Elyssa Biddle, Laird Granger, Lachlan McEwen, Samuel Murgatroyd, Rafferty Lowe, Soraya Shalav, Thanusri Gadikota.
Parking Problems
I have been contacted by the residents of Pineview Avenue with regards to parents parking illegally in their street and leaving toddlers unsupervised in the car whilst they pick up children from the school. Please park legally and just a little further away from the school to avoid causing issues with the neighbours and also putting our student’s safety at risk, with the high levels of congestion around the close proximity of the school. Please arrange to meet your child further away from the school. We currently have 2 buses and 560 children exiting the school from 2.50pm to 3.10pm and need to be safer with the way we park and move around the school during this time. Rangers have been notified and will be booking parents who park illegally or leave toddlers in the car during pick up and drop off times. A continuous yellow line around the guttering of the street means you cannot park there. The fine is $275.
NAPLAN Online Practice Tests
This week Years 3 & 5 have had a run through on the online NAPLAN testing process. Thank you to Mrs Blackband and Mrs Johnston for assisting with this organisation. The actual NAPLAN testing dates for 2021 are from 11 May to 21 May. Practice tests and information are available from the following link:

Easter Hat Parade - Thursday 1 April
To conclude the term, we will have an Easter Hat parade for our K-2 students. The parade will be held on the school oval and basketball court for the following times:
Kindergarten - 9.15am
Year 1 - 10.00am
Year 2 – 10.30am
Our COVID plan for the event requires us to ensure that only 2 visitors per student is allowed to attend (toddlers not included). Please make sure you remain 1.5 metres from another visiting family while you watch the event and leave the school directly after your child’s parade has finished to allow for other parents to come and watch.
Farewell Mrs Deborah Curran - School Counsellor
On Thursday of next week, we will say goodbye to our school counsellor Deborah Curran after over 40 years of service to the Department of Education and the children of NSW. Mrs Curran has been a great support to staff and students at Manly Vale Public School for the past couple of years and will be missed by us all. We wish her all the best for her retirement and thank her for her commitment and education to the students and families of Manly Vale.
Band Working Bee - Tuesday 30 March 3.15pm
Next Tuesday our band committee will be having a working bee in the hall to clean up the space where the instruments are kept, sort our music and give the storeroom a dust. Thank you to Mrs Helena Edgerton and all the band committee for organising this working bee and to all the volunteers who are going to assist that afternoon.
Mother’s Day Stall - Friday 7 May
Attached to this newsletter is the flyer for our first fundraiser for the year. Kindergarten parents are rostered on for this event and Class Coordinators from KO, KR, KCH and KM will all meet with Kristen Te Pania to work through the organisation of the day. Parent volunteers from the Kindergarten classes will be required to sort out gifts and collate items, as well as set up the stall and work on the day. Please contact your Class Coordinator if you are able to assist in any way. New and unused items for the stall are donated from children who wish to purchase at the stall. All profits from the stall will go towards replacing the fixed equipment at the front of the school.
Fixed Equipment - out of bounds
Please do not allow your toddler to play on the equipment at pick up time. Some of the equipment is broken and requiring replacement and a teacher must be there to supervise access during school hours. Accidents on the equipment are the responsibility of the school during school times so therefore a teacher is required to supervise the equipment.
