Principal’s Report

This week is Harmony Week. Today our students wore a “touch of orange” in recognition and support of the theme ‘Everyone Belongs.” Every class has contributed to colouring in 2 large banners and participating in inclusion activities including celebrating the cultural diversity we have at Manly Vale Public School. At Manly Vale we celebrate difference and enjoy learning from others to develop empathy and understanding amongst all of our students.

Regional Swimming

Congratulations to all our Manly Vale students who went off to the Regional carnival last Monday to represent not only our school but the whole of Northern Sydney Region. Outstanding results from the following students who will now compete at the State Carnival. Our senior girls relay team, Hannah Huisman who will compete 11 years 50m butterfly and to Hudson McLaren who will now compete in the 9 years 50 metre freestyle. Outstanding results from our swimming champions. Good luck in the State carnival! More results and photos follow in this newsletter.

Bus Monitors

Tomorrow the following students will receive their Bus Monitor badges at the Friday assembly. One parent only from each of the following students may attend the ceremony and must sign in at the office first. The presentation will be held under the K-2 COLA outside the Kindergarten classrooms at 9.00am. These students will be assisting Mrs Lee and Mrs Oscroft with ensuring safe behaviour and practices are maintained on the school buses.

The bus service is being carefully monitored by the bus depot and all issues including signage, over-crowding and buses being late to pick up have been reported. The over-crowding is currently being investigated by Transport NSW. Students must tap on and off with an Opal Card to register their usage. Please note that our bus monitors only report behaviour and incidents to Mrs Lee they are not responsible for the behaviour management of students when travelling on the buses.

Thank you to the following Year 5 students for volunteering to do this role:

Abigail Wilson, Gabrielle Anderson, Isabella Entwistle, Alice Spence, Olivia Scott, Maddie Smith, Kalinda Northcott, Hannah Solberger, Terezka Havelkova, Michael Love, Cameron Kuan, George Gregor, Laird Granger, Reef Houston, Cooper Burbidge, Olivia Nikolic, Serena Cliffe.

Café Owl - Coordinator required for 2021

There has been a lot of enquiries about the return of Café Owl on a Friday morning. We are looking for a coordinator and volunteers to run Café Owl following the strict COVID guidelines for food handling and gathering of adults. If you are interested in coordinating Café Owl please contact the P & C (through your Class Coordinator or via the school email) before the next meeting on Tuesday 27 April at 7.00pm in the staffroom. The coordinator role requires organising the volunteers, buying the eggs, bacon and rolls each week, overseeing the set up and clean up in the old canteen, replacing gas bottles and equipment required, collecting the money and giving it to the office after each morning. We would like to thank Mrs Justine Northcott who has done this role for the last few years who wishes to hand it over to someone else.

Parent/Teacher Interviews – week 9 (22 March -25 March)

Parent/teacher interviews will take place from Monday of next week. The interviews will take place in the school hall on the evenings from Monday to Thursday. Some teachers have already started their interviews. If your interview is before school or during the day please check with the office as to where the interview is being conducted as it may be in the classroom or in an office in the administration building. The hall will only be used for afternoon and evening interviews as band will be rehearsing in there most mornings.

Congratulations Ms Catherine Thomson

Our Stage 2 Assistant Principal Ms Catherine Thomson will be taking a few weeks leave starting from next week to get married. She will return to us at Manly Vale as Mrs Catherine Nelson as of Week 2 of next term. As a school community we wish her and her husband Matt all the best for the wedding day and for their future. It is such an exciting time for them both. Good luck. The staff will be wearing white this Friday to celebrate the upcoming nuptials.

Farewell Mrs Deborah Curran - School Counsellor

Our wonderful school counsellor Mrs Deborah Curran will retire at the end of this term on Thursday 1 April. We wish her all the best for her retirement. We will farewell Mrs Curran on the last day of term.

Easter Hat Parade - Thursday 1 April

Our annual Easter hat parade will occur for Kindergarten, year 1 & 2 students on Thursday 1 April. All of our students in K-2 will make their Easter hats during school next week with the help of their buddies. Parents of K-2 students are asked to donate some special art supplies (glitter, foam Easter decorations, tinsel, coloured stickers etc) to decorate these hats.

The students will parade on the morning of that day (weather permitting) in grade groups starting with kindergarten. Only 2 visitors per student will be allowed to come to the parade. The parade will take place on the oval and basketball court and parents will be asked to stay 1.5 metres apart from other families for the event. Sign in will be required upon entry to the school. You may only stay for your child’s parade as we need to allow enough room for all parents to come and watch their children parade. Your co-operation in leaving the event promptly will be most appreciated. Times of the parade follow in this newsletter.
