Principal’s Report
Welcome back to all our students and their families. We have had a very positive start to 2021, forming 24 classes and farewelling our Year 6 students on their first camp yesterday. Thank you to all the Year 6 parents and teachers for their support in allowing a camp to go ahead within the first full week of school. A great effort.
Welcome Kindergarten 2021
Today we welcomed our new Kindergarten students. They all looked spectacular in their new uniforms and oversized backpacks. It is such an exciting time for them all. The Kindergarten teachers Mrs Robertson, Ms Mason, Mrs O’Connor, Mrs Rae and Mrs Holman have enjoyed meeting all of their students during the one on one Best Start interviews. This year Mrs Oscroft our Deputy Principal will be overseeing Kindergarten. Congratulations to all the students for their brave start this morning and to their parents who were able to hold in their tears until they made it down to the hall for the “tears and tissues” session.
Year 6 Camp
Our Year 6 students have headed off to the Great Aussie Bush Camp. With a record 4 classes and their teachers Mrs Blackband, Mr Dylan, Mrs Ward and Mrs Radan all attending, it is bound to be 3 days of fun. They were all very excited. I will be attending camp today and returning tomorrow Friday at 4.00pm.
Welcome New Families
A warm welcome to our 17 new students and their families. We hope your transition to Manly Vale Public School has been a smooth one and you are enjoying being a part of this wonderful community. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet new friends as the year goes on (and restrictions ease). It is important that at least one parent/carer attends the Parent Information night coming up. At these nights you will have the opportunity to be included on a class social email list which allows you to connect with other families in your child’s class. You will also be able to meet the class teacher and other parents and learn about the organisation for the year.
Swimming Carnival - Thursday 11 February
We will be having our annual swimming carnival at the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool Manly on Thursday 11 February. Students will leave school at 9.15am and return by 2.30pm. All students in Years 3-6 must attend the carnival. Students in Year 2 who can confidently swim 50 meters are invited to attend otherwise the Year 2 classes will remain at school that day for normal lessons. Mrs Warnock will take students in year 2 who are attending.
It can be a long day for Year 2 students if they are not competent swimmers as there is only their age race (50 metre freestyle) and then open events (junior ages 8, 9 and 10) for the rest of the swimming strokes. Please only allow your child to attend if they are keen to swim in their age race and maybe one of the other open events including 50 metre backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
No parents are able to attend the carnival so an early pick up is not an option this year. All timekeeping and marshalling duties will be done by school staff. Buses will take students to and from the pool.
Parent Information Nights - week 4 & 5
The Parent Information sessions will be on the following nights. Please ensure that one parent attends these evenings to collect the information and organisation for the year. Teachers will meet the parents in their classrooms for 1 hour only. Please proceed straight to classrooms where you will need to sign in using the QR code as well as the visitor sign on sheets. This is purely an information night. Parents will not be able to have a one to one interview with the teachers during this time. Interviews will take place later in the term.
Week 4:
Monday 15 February - Years 5 and 6 classes –
6.00pm-7.00pm
Tuesday 16 February - Kindergarten – 5.00pm-6.00pm
Tuesday 16 February – Years 1 and 2 (Stage 1) - 6.00pm-7.00pm
Week 5:
Wednesday 24 February - Years 3 and 4 (Stage 2) – 6.00pm-7.00pm
Classes 2021
We have formed 24 classes this year. All stages will be involved in collaborative learning where students may be with different teachers and in different classrooms for certain subject areas. In the K-2 classrooms most of the learning will take place with their class teacher however years 3-6 teachers will be experimenting with the collaborative learning spaces allowing students to work together across the stage with various teachers.
We welcome some new teachers to the school, some have been away on leave and others new from other schools and areas.

Year 5 will attend on Wednesday 10 February and year 6 will attend on Wednesday 17 February. It is a fun and exciting day and the students learn a lot about water safety, identifying and coping in rip currents, swimming safely in the ocean and surf rescues. Teachers from Manly Vale attend the excursion with their class and the course is conducted by qualified instructors from SEA Australia (Surf Education Awareness Australia)
In order to participate, students will need to return the permission note to their class teacher. They will also need parents/carers to complete an online waiver which goes directly to SEA Australia. Could parents please complete this waiver as soon as possible by following the link.
