Principal’s Report
It is certainly coming to that exciting time of the year, with the preparation of end of year awards ceremonies and leadership elections. It has been wonderful to be a part of the preparation for our Year 5 students to move into their leadership roles for 2021. Congratulations to all of the Year 5 students who stood for the 8 leadership positions.

Congratulations to all our nominees. The final 8 school leaders will be announced next week. Each of these students wrote outstanding speeches and must be congratulated on their ability to speak in front of their peers and teachers last Wednesday. Thank you Mrs Blackband for all your organisation.
New Before and After School Care Provider
Manly Vale Public school will have a new provider for our after school care services. Sustainable OOSH will take over the current facility from 18 December 2020 (last day of the school year). Until then Primaryoshcare will be providing the service.
Officially Sustainable OOSH Care Pty Ltd will open their service on 4 January 2021 for a vacation care program. If parents are requiring care on these days to the lead up to Christmas Sustainable OOSH is offering places in their current setting at Balgowlah North Public School (Koolkuna) on December 21, 22 & 23. Enrolment details will be sent home via this newsletter next week.
A link to Sustainable OOSH website and enrolment details for the vacation care program, Best Start Kindergarten program and enrolment for 2021 will all be sent home next week when the licence is officially signed. There are plenty of spaces and vacancies for next year and information will be made available in next week’s newsletter.
The current staff have all been offered positions if they wish to continue in the service although there will be a new Centre Manager and some new staff appointed for beginning of the year.
Thank You to our SRE and SEE Teachers
Last Wednesday we had our final Scripture and Ethics classes for 2020. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteer teachers for their commitment to Manly Vale Public School and for continuing with lessons for the students during some very difficult times.
Band AGM
Last night we had our final band meeting for the year. We have now currently 38 students signed up for junior band next year from our year 2 students. It is a very exciting time for them all as instruments are allocated and tutors engaged, in preparation for their band experience next year. Thank you to Ben and Carlos for all the work done on the instrument allocation tests.
Ben will be now looking at the current junior band students over the next few rehearsals to gauge which students are ready for senior band next year. It is a real credit to our band committee John Logan, Helena Edgerton, Turia Mako, Suzie Burton and our conductors Ben and Carlos that the band program has remained stable this year. Congratulations to all. A big thank you to Turia Mako for her commitment to the Treasurer role for the past few years. Turia will step down this year as Max heads off to high school. We also want to thank and acknowledge Suzie Burton for her commitment to the band and in particular assisting with the band camps. Thank you Turia and Suzie.
We look forward to another great year with band next year.
Kindy Orientation 2021
We had our final picnic day last Thursday with all our Kindy parents and children at Manly Dam. Mrs Oscroft and I enjoyed getting to know all of our new families. That concludes our orientation program for the year. Uniform deliveries can be picked up from the front office from tomorrow.
Celebration of Learning
Next Thursday 3 December we will have our Celebration of Learning assemblies. Emails have been sent to parents of the awards recipients this week. Please respond to the email nominating the parent (only one) that will be attending the ceremony. Strict social distancing guidelines will be followed for these events. Please do not attend the ceremony if you are unwell. A sign in sheet will need to be completed by all parents.
Celebration of Learning times:
Years 5 & 6 - 9.30am
Years 3 & 4 - 11.30am
Years 1 & 2 – 2.00pm
Kindergarten Graduation - Friday 11 December
The Kindergarten graduation and awards ceremonies will be done as individual classes this year allowing both parents to attend. Parents will receive detailed information regarding times through class newsletters. Please do not attend this ceremony if you are unwell.
Year 6 Graduation - Monday 14 December
Our Year 6 students will graduate at a special assembly on Monday 14 December at 1.30pm. Both parents may attend this ceremony. No siblings or extended family are able to attend this year.
Report
The final school report for the year will go home on Tuesday 15 December.
Thank you to our P & C
The P & C this year have donated $2,800 towards the Year 6 graduation ceremony and $1,000 towards the staff Christmas party. It was a very generous offer and truly appreciated. The Year 6 students have been unable to do a lot of their other fundraisers this year, so the P & C decided to assist with payments. Thank you!
School Fees
Reminders were sent home last week via email. If you are experiencing financial difficulty please contact Mrs Lee or make an appointment at the office.
Leaving next year?
Please inform the office by email if you are intending on leaving the school next year. Teachers are preparing classes for 2021 and staff need to be organised and it is beneficial if we know which of our students are remaining at Manly Vale Public School.
Traffic Signs
On the street surrounding the school there has been changes to parking and an extension of the bus zone on Gibbs Street. There is now a 5 minute parking limit on the southern side of Sunshine Street which allows for a quick drop off and pick up. On the opposite side of the road on Sunshine Street there is ‘no parking’ in school drop off and pick up times. Whilst you can’t park, you can remain in the car for a short time for students to get in. You must not be more than 3 metres from your car.
On Gibbs Street there is an all day bus zone on the corner of Arana & Gibbs Streets to allow for all buses including PSSA and school excursion buses, as well as our normal bus zone for the school bus service between 8.30-9.30am and 2.30-4.30pm (school days). Traffic wardens and controllers will be enforcing these regulations. Please take care when parking around the school.
Parking
Every week a neighbour calls the school with complaints of driveways being blocked due to parents illegally parking in the pick-up and drop off times. Please do not park across the neighbour’s driveways. There is plenty of parking just a short walk from the school. Please respect our neighbours and their property.

Schools Spectacular 2020
Less than 2 weeks to go!
Just when you thought it had passed you by, Schools Spectacular returns to your screens with a very special ‘Remixed’ show airing on Channel 7 on Saturday 5 December at 7:00 pm.
This special two-hour broadcast, using innovative techniques and featuring an amazing playlist, will wow audiences as we look back at many memorable acts and spectacular moments from the past four years.
It’s been a challenging year for students, missing out on so much, including the chance to perform live at Qudos Bank Arena. With this in mind, we’ve created a very special performance by our graduating Year 12’s who have performed online, sharing their passions and talents and celebrating with us one last time.
We thank our 2020 sponsors for their generous support of this year’s unique broadcast; Presenting Partners, Telstra and the NSW Teachers Federation, and Year 12 Segment Partner, RØDE Microphones.
This is a broadcast…an experience, you will not forget! Hope you can join in the celebration!
