Years 1- 6 2021
Students who are returning to Manly Vale next year will start school on Friday 29 January. There has been two Staff Development days (pupil free days) scheduled for the 27 & 28 January. The Before and After school care will be available if you require supervision for those days.
Dancesport Finalists
Last Friday Year 5 and their teachers watched the filmed finals competition for Dancesport in the hall. It was wonderful to hear and see all the students congratulating each other on their achievements in ballroom dancing this semester and very exciting to have 2 of our couples make the finals and take out the trophies. Congratulations to all our finalists with a special mention to Louis Thomsett Munro and Eleanor Beck for coming 3rd in the Jive and Isaac Sherlock and Charli Lehmann for winning the Tango. Manly Vale students did an amazing job during this program. Parents are able to view the finals and interviews by following the link below.

That concludes our dance programs for 2020 with only Year 6 remaining to complete their graduation dances with the Dance to be Fit company. It has been great to have been able to have all our usual dance programs and the opportunity to film them for the enjoyment of parents. Thank you to all the teachers who actively and enthusiastically came up with great alternatives to have these programs during the COVID restrictions.
Leaving next year?
Please inform the office by email if you are intending on leaving the school next year. Teachers are preparing classes for 2021 and staff need to be organised and it is beneficial if we know which of our students are remaining at Manly Vale Public School.
School Fees - 2020
Reminders regarding outstanding school fees will be sent home this week (email). Could you please finalise all payments for the year so a financial roll over can be done in preparation for our school next year. If you are experiencing financial difficulty please contact Mrs Lee or make an appointment at the office.

Year 6 Graduation – Monday 14 December 1.30pm

No grandparents will be allowed. 2 parents per child only. The ceremony will be in the school hall and parents can sit together.
Stage 2 Excursion - The Rocks
Last Tuesday our stage 2 students had their first excursion for the year. The students went on a walking tour of The Rocks in Sydney, dressing up as convicts and the early settlers, to see how life was in the days of the First Settlement. All students had a wonderful time and it was great to have a taste of normality again for the school, with students enjoying trips to enhance their learning experiences.
Next week our Year 1 students will venture to Manly Dam for a short excursion.
Reports
Our end of year reports are due to go out on Wednesday 9 December. Assessments are now being completed and teachers are writing their end of year evaluations on every student. Attendance at this time of year is very important.
Second Hand Uniform sale - tomorrow
Tomorrow morning between 8.30am and 9.30am Wendie from our uniform shop will be selling second hand uniforms outside the school hall. Strict social distancing guidelines will be enforced and parents will need to make their selections within a 10-15 minute timeslot then leave the playground. Please enter via the gate next to the administration building and exit via the main gate at the front of the school. Card payments will be accepted via the Eftpos machine “Tap and Go”.
Congratulations Year 5
This last week we have had the School Leadership nominations for 2021. I wish to congratulate all the Year 5 students who stood for leadership and wish all the final 16 nominees the best with their final preparations. The students will write their speeches next Tuesday 24 November and then present them the following day on Wednesday 25 November. It is a wonderful achievement for all those students who were nominated by their peers, to be down to this final part of the election process. Years 3, 4 & 5 will vote for the final 16 to come up with the 4 School leaders and 4 prefects for 2021. Good luck to all.
Band 2020 AGM
Next Wednesday 25 November our school’s band committee will have their Annual General Meeting. I would like to thank and acknowledge the work of the 2020 committee:
President - John Logan
Secretary - Helen Edgerton
Treasurer - Turia Mako
Junior Band parent - Katherine Meyer
Senior Band parent - Chris Smith
Banner Assembly - Friday 27 November
We will have our final banner assembly for the year on Friday 27 November. Recipients for the awards will appear in the newsletter after that date. Below are the photos of the recipients from the previous banner assembly. Congratulations to all.

Final SRE/SEE- 25 November
Next week will be the last SEE and SRE lessons for the year. Thank you to Mrs Clair O’Connor for her organisation of the SEE and SRE in the school and to all our volunteers who taught the children during these lessons.
OC Test – last Wednesday
24 of our Year 4 students sat the Opportunity Class (OC) test last Wednesday 18 November. This is a very difficult examination and congratulations to all students who sat these series of tests in English, mathematics and general ability. The competition to get into these classes for Year 5 is extremely high and usually we get between 1-2 students who are accepted for an OC placement. OC test results will not be publicised until January 2021 which means decisions on whether to accept the placement will be done during the school holiday period. COVID restrictions has prevented these tests going ahead in their usual timeslots thereby pushing back the placement dates.
Traffic Signs
On the street surrounding the school there has been changes to parking and an extension of the bus zone on Gibbs Street. There is now a 5 minute parking limit on the southern side of Sunshine Street which allows for a quick drop off and pick up. On the opposite side of the road on Sunshine Street there is ‘no parking’ in school drop off and pick up times. Whilst you can’t park, you can remain in the car for a short time for students to get in. You must not be more than 3 metres from your car.
On Gibbs Street there is an all day bus zone on the corner of Arana & Gibbs Streets to allow for all buses including PSSA and school excursion buses, as well as our normal bus zone for the school bus service between 8.30-9.30am and 2.30-4.30pm (school days). Traffic wardens and controllers will be enforcing these regulations. Please take care when parking around the school.
Parking
Every week a neighbour calls the school with complaints of driveways being blocked due to parents illegally parking in the pick-up and drop off times. Please do not park across the neighbour’s driveways. There is plenty of parking just a short walk from the school. Please respect our neighbours and their property.

On Tuesday, Stage 2 went on their first excursion for the year. As part of their history program, students have been exploring British settlement.
