School Fee Adjustments

Over the past 2 weeks we have refunded 2020 cancelled excursions/activities. If you have any queries please contact Pam Davison or Annabel Marsden in the school office.

Next week we will be sending out account reminders for those parents who are paying instalments. Please make an appointment with Mrs Lee if you are experiencing financial difficulties.

Covid Symptoms

If your child has flu or cold like symptoms they must be kept at home until they are fully recovered. We understand that at this time of year with hay fever and the change of seasons children can have a runny nose, sneeze or cough. You must keep them at home. Please get a doctor’s certificate explaining if your child has an ongoing condition including asthma, hay fever or sinus infection and your child will be able to attend school.

We understand it is very difficult for parents who are trying to work but these guidelines are set by the Department of Education and Health and we as a school must follow them.

Stage 3 On Your Soapbox Public Speaking Competition

Over the last few weeks Stage 3 have been presenting their On Your Soapbox speeches in class and have impressed their teachers immensely. The public speaking program at Manly Vale has come a long way and we now have confident, proud speakers across the whole school. As teachers we are all very proud of the efforts and dedication that all students have put in to prepare, rehearse and perform their speeches in front of their peers and teachers. It can be a scary task, however they all rose to the occasion and shone incredibly.

This Monday just gone, we held the Stage 3 finalist competition with two students from each class chosen to represent their class and vie for the top title. Those top 12 students (Zak Nethery and Louella Goodsir 5BC, Isla Stedman and Ari Goodsir 5W, Atticus Lee and Kate Fewtrell 5S, Natasha Li and Isabella Earl 5R, Mackenzie Jeffs and Morgan Andrews 6D, and Phoebe Crowe and Pipi Te Pania 6B) were all outstanding! They spoke with such conviction and confidence, and made us all very proud of their achievements. They should be extremely proud of showcasing their talents in front of the whole stage in such brilliant style.

Unfortunately, the Bear Pit Public Speaking competition has been cancelled this year due to COVID-19 so no one will be going further with their speeches. As the speeches were all so fantastic the judges decided to award a year 5 and a year 6 finalist and one overall runner-up.

We would like to congratulate Kate Fewtrell from year 5 for being our year 5 finalist with her speech on what lesson she has learnt so far; ‘you’ll never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory’, and to Mackenzie Jeffs from year 6 for being our year 6 finalist with her speech on whether or not the future actually will be awesome; ‘the future is in our hands’. A mention to Isabella Earl from year 5 for being our overall runner-up with her speech on ‘what lesson she has learnt so far’. It was such a hard decision for the judges to choose just 3 speakers. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!

Sarah Birrell
