As the Kindergarten to Year 2 Carnival will be at school students may order lunches from the canteen. The Years 3-6 students may not be back from the carnival at David Thomas oval so need to have all of their drinks and snacks packed for the day.

P & C Zoom Meeting - Tuesday 11 August

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Zoom P & C meeting last Tuesday. There was a lot of discussion regarding the current distancing guidelines in place for the COVID 19 pandemic and the great things that are still happening with in the school. A copy of all the reports that were presented at the meeting are attached to this Bush Telegraph this week for you to look over.

P & C expenditure this year will focus on the organisation and running of the canteen and uniform shop, the provisions of support for families in need within the school including school provided lunches and uniforms for those families in need at this very difficult time.

The P & C also voted to support the proposal of supplying new shelving for the library and an upgrade of the fixed equipment for the students.

Please see attached reports from Band, Canteen and Uniform. The next Zoom P & C meeting will be on Tuesday 8 September. Please email Karen Murgatroyd (kmurgatroyd@hotmail.com) if you wish to attend.

Online Assessments - Year 5 & Year 3

Next week our Year 5 students will sit an online “check in” assessment on literacy and numeracy. As NAPLAN was cancelled this year we have decided to participate in a state-wide data collection of assessment for year 3 and 5 students to give us some baseline data for our school directions and focus for 2021. Year 3 will also do these assessments at the beginning of Term 4 this year.

Banner Assembly - Friday 21 August

The following students have received 3 Principal awards and have earnt a School Banner. The presentation of the banner will occur at Friday morning assembly next week. Unfortunately, we are not able to invite parents to this ceremony but will film the event and make sure parents can access the awards ceremony through a link on the website. Our senior band will also perform at this assembly. Congratulations to the following students:

Pipi Te Pania, Ashleigh Forrest, Rena Kim, Abigail Wilson, Gabi Han, Brooke Fisher, Isaac Lau, Belinda Matthews, Isla Stedman, Jack Voorderhake, Sophie Sollberger, Siyul Yang, Savannah Lowe, Ella Kemp, James Curzon.

Write 4 Fun Competition

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Write 4 Fun competition this year. Over 7000 entries were received nationally. Manly Vale Public School has several children progress through the first selection round and our congratulations to Atticus Lee from 5S who was selected as a finalist. His short story will be published in the annual anthology in November.

New School Catchment Area

As we all know there have been major changes to the demographics in the Northern Beaches area over the past 10 years and more.

While the Department of Education has invested in new schools and upgrades over this period, shifting populations have meant that from 2023 it will be making adjustments to intake areas which will affect our school.

The intention is to ensure a more equitable distribution of students across the area and to lessen the dependences on demountable classrooms where some schools are at over capacity.

Our school will be affected in the following:

  1. A larger catchment area that has been extended to the north and east of the current school catchment area.
  2. A gradual increase in the number of students attending our school over the next 3 years.

Enrolments

From the start of 2023, enrolments can only be accepted from residents inside our new local intake area unless a sibling is already enrolled at our school. Parents can still apply as a non-local enrolment to an out of intake area school and their application will be considered on a case-by-case basis in line with the Department’s enrolment policy

Between August 2020 and Term 4 2022, parents and carers who live at an address impacted by these adjustments, will have the option to either:

  • Enrol their children in the school they are currently designated to
  • Enrol their children in the school they will be designated to in 2023

Siblings

From 2023, students can continue to enrol in the current school intake area school if they have a sibling in that school. This is regardless of whether the school is at enrolment capacity.

We hope these changes will not affect too many people in our community, but are necessary in order to better utilise schools in our areas and give students the best education we can.

If you have any questions or enquires please feel free to contact our school office or go to the link below:

or our school’s website:

Kindergarten Orientation 2021

Our first Kindergarten orientation day will be Monday 21 September via Zoom. New parents will be emailed next week and asked to contribute questions and ideas that they wish discussed during this zoom meeting. Kindergarten students are unable to attend school at this time due to the COVID restrictions. Please note that our school’s website has a virtual tour of the school along with some preliminary information regarding enrolments for next year.

The uniform shop will be taking online orders later next term and have displays in the office after our next orientation day, for parents to view sizing and the various articles of uniform they may wish to purchase. We are hoping that next term there will be the opportunity to have our new students in classrooms for an orientation session.

Please send enrolment forms into the office, they can be downloaded from our school’s website

https://manlyvale-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

Year 5 & 6 Camp

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our Stage 3 camp to the Great Aussie Bush Camp. The restrictions have not eased and we are unable to take our senior students away at this time.

Stage 3 teachers are preparing some fun days and activities for them next term. Payment for the camp will be refunded.

Dancesport, Hip Hop and K-2 Dance

We are now ready to film our K-2 dance concert with Ms Vanessa to send home to parents. Permission to Publish letters were sent home to parents who hadn’t previously given permission for this to Occur. Please note that students without the “Permission to Publish” approval will take place in the dance routines but will be removed from the concert filming.

Payment for all our dance programs is now due. Please make sure that you make a payment for these programs so we are able to pay for the instructors. Reminders have been sent home. If you are having problems paying fees please make an appointment with Mrs Lee at your earliest convenience.

Band Performances

The junior and senior bands both have performances coming up in the next few weeks. Please make note in your diaries of the following dates and ensure your child wears band uniform on the following days and has their instrument with them.

Thursday 20 August - Junior Band Performance to Year 2 and 3 - Band introduction
Friday 21 August - Senior Band Banner assembly performance.
Wednesday 23 September - Band Workshop morning- Senior and Junior Bands

Please see attached Band report to P & C meeting this week.

Parking

Please do not park across driveways of our neighbours. We are having continuous complaints from our neighbours regarding parents parking them in in their driveways. Please park legally respecting the access for our neighbours. The painted yellow line on the road long the gutter means that you are not allowed to park there.

Student Absence Email Notification

The Department of Education requires parent explanation for all student absences within 7 days. To lessen the administration and maintenance of attendance, as from next Monday 3 August if your child is away from school you will receive a courtesy email letting you know that they are absent. This will occur on a daily basis, requesting that you provide an explanation for why they were away. This can be done by emailing the school on manlyvale-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or alternatively we have added an Absentee tile in our Schoolzine app which enables you to complete an absent notification which gets emailed directly to the school. Please do not reply to the original email as it is generated from our attendance roll marking system in Sentral.

We’re hoping this system makes it easier for families to explain student leave or illness. We apologise if there are any teething issues in the beginning and appreciate your support and understanding. Please if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Deputy Principal’s Report

The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey for Manly Vale Public School Monday 11 August – Friday 23 October

This term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at the link below:

http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/

To access the survey for our school go to the link below:

The survey is available in 23 languages.

Principal’s Day - Thank you Mrs Lee

Last Friday 7 August was Principal’s Day. We don’t usually get the opportunity to acknowledge and thank Mrs Lee for all the incredible and valuable work she does, every day and year-round.

“Leadership is not about being in charge. Leadership is about taking care of those in your charge” Simon Sinek

Mrs Lee, this quote encapsulates your leadership here at Manly Vale PS where you take the time to make every child, teacher and parent feel known, valued and cared for every day. We thank you for everything you do.
