Principal’s Report
The face to face and phone call interviews have gone very smoothly this week and we hope were a great time to catch up with the class teacher to evaluate progress made so far by our students, as well as look at what areas we need to focus on for terms 3 & 4.
If you have missed this week’s interview timeslots there are still some slots available with some of teachers next week, just email for an appointment. Thank you for braving the cold evenings to come up to the school to have that one on one time.
NAIDOC Week
This week and next we will be acknowledging NAIDOC week at Manly Vale Public School. All students received armbands with this year’s theme “Always Was, Always Will Be”. A zoom meeting to the whole school took place last Tuesday where Mrs Lee shared the historical background of the First Nations People with the school. Students are invited to visit the “Yarning Circle” created in our bush garden during the next 2 weeks.
Manly Vale Public School would like to:
Acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land that
our school stands upon,
We acknowledge all Elders past, present and emerging,
We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people.
Happy NAIDOC week – (5-12 July) school holidays!

Classroom Display
The teachers are keen to show the beautiful work our students have been doing during class time. Over the next 2 newsletters a photographic display of classrooms will appear in this gallery section.
Today stage 3 (years 5 & 6) have entered this display.

Reports
School reports are being sent home with students after the interviews. If you have not received your child’s report by the end of next week please email the office.

Stranger Danger
This week a local parent informed us of a suspicious car driving slowly around the school the incident was reported to the police. Students have been reminded of how to deal with strangers talking to them. Here are some tips you may wish to reinforce at home and over the school holiday period.
Stranger Danger Tips
Make sure your parents or the person responsible for you knows where you are at all times
Don’t talk to people you don’t know and never get into a car with someone you don’t know. If a car stops on the side of the road and you don’t know the person inside, do not stop
Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of other people
Always walk straight home or to the place you are walking To Whom It May Concern:
Know where safe places are – a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are ever frightened, you should go to one of these places and ask them to call the police
Learn about safe adults you can look for and talk to if you need help – police officers, teachers at school, adults you know and trust
Band Meeting – Tuesday 23 June
Last Tuesday we had our second band (zoom) meeting for the year. We are hoping to set some dates for performances for our two bands towards the end of term 3. At this stage, restrictions still don’t allow us to have an audience of parents so we will send home a video recorded performance for parents at the beginning of next term.
Thank you to all our band students who have diligently practised their instruments right through terms 1 and 2 (even during insolation). We hope to have an opportunity soon to show everyone the developments of both bands. Band shirts will be distributed by the end of term and will be worn for our video performances at the beginning of next term.
Opportunity Class Placement Test - Applications close this Friday 26 June
Year 4 students are able to sit a placement test on the above date, for an Opportunity Class (OC). Our local OC classes are at Mona Vale Public School, Neutral Bay Public School and Balgowlah Heights Public School. These classes cater for academically gifted and talented children in years 5 & 6. They provide a rich and intellectually stimulating educational environment.
The application process is online and parents must apply between 6 June and 26 June. No applications will be accepted after this date.
Due to the shorter time frame, changes have been made to the placement process for 2020 applicants. The following components of the placement process WILL NOT take place:
- Late applications
- School assessment scores
- Illness/misadventure requests or appeals
- Selection committees - placement will be determined by results of the placement test.

New School
We are nearing the end of the construction process for the school. ADCO our builders have taken some photos of the new school see below.

Parent Access to School
Please be aware that there are still no parents allowed to access the classrooms at this stage. Please come to the front office if you need to get a message to the classroom. Please do not go up into the school classroom area.
Library
Enquiries regarding library overdue notices can be done via email or by calling the school.
At Home Learning
As children become sick with colds during these winter months they need to be kept at home until they have no symptoms.
The Department of Education has provided a website where you are able to access lessons for your child during this time. The Learning Hub has activities and assessment tasks that can be used for remote learning. Please follow the link below:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home
ABC Education also has some great resources.

No Dogs Allowed on School Site Anytime
Please stay outside the school grounds if you have a dog with you. No dogs are allowed on school grounds any day of the week including weekends.
Bike Safety
Thank you to all of the students who have applied for a bike licence. Mr Dylan has distributed licences this week and it is great to see our students riding to school safely wearing helmets. Bike racks are available right near Café Owl and behind Café Owl if required. Bikes are not to be ridden onto the school grounds. Please dismount from your bike at the school gate and walk it to the bike racks.
Pick up and Drop off
The pick up and drop off at the front of the school will remain for this term. The restrictions have not eased regarding parents visiting the school classrooms at this stage. This drop off at the front of the school has been very successful in alleviating traffic congestion outside the school, assisting with a quick turn over of parking spots and lessening the anxiety of children separating from their parents.
This may be a routine we keep into the future. Thank you for your cooperation with this organisation. Please remember to respect the local neighbours and not park in or across their driveways.
Rangers will be patrolling the streets for cars illegally parked and obstructing driveways over the next few weeks.
