Principal’s Report
It has been wonderful to see some of the restrictions being eased for all of us this week. We are now able to host some incursions within the school and will welcome back some of our before and after school clubs this term and next.
Our students have been diligent with their hand washing and we would like to thank and acknowledge all of the parents who have had to keep their children at home due to the regulation coughs and colds that come at this time of year. It is a difficult for all but at least we are gaining some of the benefits from these strict isolation measures.
Parent/Teacher Face to Face Interviews
Next week we will begin our social distancing face to face interviews. All interviews will take place in the school hall unless otherwise advised by your child’s class teacher who may prefer to use the office area. No parents will be able to access the classrooms at this stage. Interviews will be strictly 10 minutes in length with a bell sounding at the end of each 10-minute interval and a 5-minute changeover to a new interview slot.
Social distancing will be strictly implemented outside the hall for parents waiting for their interview. We ask that all parents follow the strict procedures in place for next week. Phone calls from classroom teachers is also another way to avoid social contact so please advise the school if you would prefer this option. Please do not attend the interviews if you are sick. There is plenty of time to reschedule. Reports will be distributed at the interview or sent hone with the students during the next 2 weeks.
Principal Awards and Banners
Principal Awards have been given out in mobile class assemblies during the restriction period. However, with the ability to now run 15-minute assemblies some of these Principal Awards will be given out at assemblies. School Banners will not be awarded until next term when parents are able to visit the school.
Students are still able to collect and submit Super Owls and Merit Awards when they have achieved the totals below :
5 Super Owls = 1 Merit
Award
5 Merit Awards = 1 Principal Award
3 Principal Awards = 1 Banner
3 Banners = 1 School Medal
Kindergarten 2021 Open Day - online
This year we have been designing an online school tour along with interviews of our staff and students to replace our usual Kindergarten 2021 Open Day. The information will be sent out in a flyer to enrolled students and also to the local Kindergartens, along with a display on our school’s website.
All local families are invited to enrol their children for Kindergarten in 2021 now by downloading an enrolment form from the school website below and dropping it into the office.

NAIDOC WEEK - 5 - 12 July “Always was, Always will be”
NAIDOC week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC originally stood for National Aborigines and Islanders Observance Committee.”
As NAIDOC week falls in the school holidays Manly Vale Public School will celebrate with the opening of our new “Yarning Circle” within our bush garden. Each class will visit the bush garden next week and share stories and experiences in the Yarning Circle. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags will be flown next to our “Cultural Poles” which will be painted later in the year.
All students will be given a NAIDOC wristband to wear for the last 2 weeks of the term and participate in Aboriginal art and cultural experiences within class.
Manly Vale Public School staff proudly embed aboriginal perspectives into all areas of the curriculum. Thank you to Cadence Abrahams for the leadership of Aboriginal education within the school.

Robotics - Stage 3
Over the next 3 Fridays all Stage 3 students will participate in Robotics workshops. A separate note came out about these workshops and payment for these workshops would be greatly appreciated as soon as possible.
PSSA, Cross Country Carnival and Athletics Carnival
At this stage PSSA winter competition for next term will be cancelled, along with the cross-country carnival. We are still hoping to run a school athletics carnival during term 3. We will wait to see how the lifting of restrictions goes before making firm decisions on the athletics carnival. School sport will remain for all students for Term 3.
Arana Street Community Library
The residents of Arana Street have created a community library. Students from within the local area are welcome to go and exchange and borrow books from this library to read and share with their families and then return for others to use. This is a wonderful community initiative and all readers of any age are encouraged to use the library. Over the next few weeks and in the school holidays indigenous authors will be featured within the library. A great way to celebrate NAIDOC week this year. Thank you to all the residents of Arana Street for this wonderful community resource.
Pick up and Drop off
The pick up and drop off at the front of the school will remain for this term. The restrictions have not eased regarding parents visiting the school classrooms at this stage. This drop off at the front of the school has been very successful in alleviating traffic congestion outside the school, assisting with a quick turn over of parking spots and lessening the anxiety of children separating from their parents.
This may be a routine we keep into the future. Thank you for your cooperation with this organisation. Please remember to respect the local neighbours and not park in or across their driveways.
Rangers will be patrolling the streets for cars illegally parked and obstructing driveways over the next few weeks.
