Principal’s Report
We have come to the end of term 1 and what a term it has been. It certainly hasn’t been an easy time for some families with home schooling, job losses and the impact of the COVID-19 isolation guidelines. It is amazing to think in the space of 3 weeks that we have 90% of our students learning from home. The majority of our teaching staff have been off site this last week with just a skeleton staff here to teach the remaining students. Thank you to all parents who have been thrown into the role of teacher over these past few weeks and are now juggling their own work commitments plus the responsibility of supervising their children.
It seems like we will be in this “Distance Learning” mode for at least 2 weeks at the beginning of next term. We will remain open at this stage for those parents who require our supervision. For activities to do in the holidays please see the link below:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-from-home/advice-to-parents-and-carers/school-holiday-activities
Some students may have work that they can continue over the holidays as well. Some digital learning sites can be found at:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-from-home
These next 2 weeks will be a time to relax and leave the classroom. Teachers will not be setting work or responding to Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams or One Note work submitted after today. Our Staff Development Day is scheduled for Monday 27 April so there will be no supervision at school that day. Please make a booking with the Before and After school care provider Primary OSHCare at mvosc@primaryoshcare.com.au if you require supervision for that day or over the upcoming holiday period.
Term 2 Week 1
The work for the first week of school next term will be ready by Tuesday 28 April. Parents are welcome to come and collect booklets required on that day. The Class Coordinators will receive the timetables and work planned on the Monday evening of 27 April and will email it out to their class parents. We are unsure how long this “Distance Education” will continue and we are preparing to use the Department of Education’s Zoom platform with our years 3-6 students from next term.
There will be guidelines on the use of these online forums and we will be sending these out at the beginning of the term. It is important that parents supervise all online chats and use during children’s device time. If you require a device from the school please email the school at the beginning of next term.
Home Schooling
Congratulations to all the students who sent in the photos of their home schooling this week. Darcy and Anastasia sent in a picture of their remote learning in the country and Jordyn shared a photo of her new classroom. This week’s winner was Lily in Kindergarten who shared her work with us all at school.

The staff also wanted to send in a photo of a fun lunchtime they had this week.
Holiday Construction
These holidays the school will only be open to those students who will be booked into the Vacation Program. Access to the school for these families will be via the carpark and across the basketball court. Both staircases will be renovated during this break and the oval and grass area will be receiving fertiliser. The school will be closed to the community so as to complete the final works on the hall and landscaping areas.
Happy Holidays
Thank you to all the class coordinators for all they are doing in passing on communications. It has been an extremely busy few weeks. It’s now time to rest and relax and enjoy some well-deserved family time over the next few weeks. Happy and safe holiday to all our Manly Vale families and we look forward to seeing you next term.
