Principal’s Report

What a wonderful week with the running of our annual school swimming carnival. Congratulations to every student who swam in a race and earned points for their house. A special mention to our 8 year old’s who competed in their first school carnival. It was a very exciting day. The weather was perfect, and it was delightful watching the excitement of every child as they stepped up to the start to swim in their respective age races.

Thank you to all the parents who came and assisted with timekeeping and helped cheer on our enthusiastic swimmers. Thanks to all the teachers who took on a variety of jobs and responsibilities ensuring the carnival ran smoothly. Special thanks to Mrs Birrell for her recording and to Mrs Ward our carnival organiser. We are so lucky to have their expertise to run such a major event.

Swimming ribbons will be given out in the next few weeks at a Friday assembly. Check the newsletter for details over the coming weeks. The zone swimming carnival will be held at the Warringah Aquatic Centre on Friday 13 March. Notes will be sent home next week to successful participants.

Band Captains 2020

Congratulations to Cooper Dixon and Hannah Murgatroyd on their appointment as Band Captains for 2020. Hannah and Cooper have been dedicated members of the band throughout their primary school years and will now lead the school band for 2020. Badges will be presented to Hannah and Cooper at this Friday morning assembly.

School Banner- Grace Green and Mason MacPhee

Congratulations to Grace Green and Mason MacPhee who will receive a School Banner this Friday morning. Grace and Mason have earnt 3 Principal awards (total of 15 Super Owls/ 3 Merit Awards) and will be presented with a School Banner at this Friday’s assembly. Well done Grace 6B and Mason 5W.

Parent Information Evenings

We have had our Stage 3 and Stage 1 Information nights this week and we would like to thank all parents who attended these evenings. Next Monday 24 February we will have our Stage 2 (years 3 and 4 Information night) at 6pm. Class Coordinators will have a follow up meeting on Wednesday 26 February at 2.30pm in the school library to go over the events for the year and the expectations of the role. We will need back up coordinators for each class in case the coordinator is sick or has to go on leave for some time. Please feel free to come along if you would like to be a “back up” coordinator for the year as well.

Kirsten Te Pania will be the liaison for all the coordinators for the year so look out for her emails to pass onto your classes.

SRE and SEE start

Last Wednesday we had our first School Religious Education (SRE) and School Ethics Education (SEE) lessons for the year. Thank you to Mrs Clair O’Connor for her organisation of the classes this year. We are still requiring 2 kindergarten Ethics teachers (volunteer parents/community members). If you are interested in being an Ethics teacher, please contact Lorna Galt at mvps.ethics@gmail.com

Please remember that any changes to classes need to be communicated to the school in writing. Changes will only take place at the beginning of each term.

Uniform Shop

Unfortunately, the School Uniform Shop has run out of size 4 and 6 jackets. Until supplies can be sourced students are permitted to wear an alternative jacket to school.

Photo day- Thursday 5 March

The school photo day is coming up on Thursday 5 March. Please make sure that your child has the full school uniform for this day including black shoes and white ankle socks (covering the ankle). Envelopes for ordering have been sent home but online ordering is encouraged.

Surf Education- Stage 3

Our Stage 3 students have had their Surf Safety talk today and this will be followed up with practical activities and safety demonstrations at the beach next Tuesday 25 February. Please make sure you have completed the permission note and returned it to school by next Monday 24 February. You also need to complete an online waiver for Surf Education Australia (SEA) as outlined in the permission note. It is a tremendous program which teaches them safe surf practices and life saving techniques which are invaluable for our pre-teens especially when they live in close proximity to the beach.

School Photos

School photographs are scheduled to be taken by Advancedlife on Thursday 5 March, 2020 (Week 6). An envelope and flyer have been distributed to all students. If possible, it is our preference that ordering be completed online to reduce administration and potential security issues related to the return of cash and envelopes on photo day. Orders for packages and sibling photographs can be placed securely online at the link below using our school’s unique 9 digit advanced order code found on the top of the envelope. Portrait and group package orders are due by photography day. Should you wish to purchase a sibling photograph online, the order must be placed no later than the day before photography day. Sibling photographs will only be taken if an order has been placed. Should you have any queries concerning school photographs or online ordering, please direct them via email to enquiries@advancedlife.com.au.
