Principal’s Report
This week 17 of our year 6 students wrote Leadership speeches and delivered them in an assembly, in the hope of becoming School Leaders for 2020. I would like to congratulate them all on their resilience and perseverance through this long process. They have all spent the last few weeks learning about the roles of a school leader, going through a pre-selection and nomination process and finally delivering their final speech in preparation for the vote from the students and teachers. Eight School leaders will be announced tomorrow morning at the Friday morning assembly with School Captains and Vice Captains being announced at the celebration of learning assembly on Thursday 5 December.
Celebration of Learning - Change to timetable
Due to a proposed teacher’s Mass Meeting on the morning 5 December we have had to change the times of the Celebration of Learning assemblies. The new start times are:
K-2 – 11.30am
3-6 – 1.30pm
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Principal for the Day - Ms Cammi Watson
Tomorrow Ms Cammi Watson from 5/6W will become principal of Manly Vale Public School. Cammi will attend the assemblies and SRC meetings to present certificates and deliver a speech, and attend the PSSA Grand final to cheer on our Junior Girl’s Eagle Tag Team. We look forward to Ms Watson’s leadership this Friday.
Morning Tea with Mrs Lucey and Mrs Tams
Last Tuesday Samuel Brook, Samuel Rudnev, Eoin Kennedy and Jack Weatherston enjoyed morning tea with their class teachers Mrs Tams and Mrs Lucey. This event was provided by Mrs Kristen Te Pania on behalf of the P & C as part of the Trivia Night prizes. It was a beautiful morning tea and the boys enjoyed sharing stories and jokes with their teachers.

SEE - 2019
Last Wednesday was the last of our School Ethics Education (SEE) classes for the year. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to teach ethics this year and to Lorna Galt for her coordination of the program. Next year we look to have up to 8 classes to cover Kindergarten to Year 6. If you would like to train as an Ethics teacher please email Lorna at the link below:
SRE - 2019
Last Wednesday was our last SRE School Religious Education lesson for the year with a combined Christmas service held in the school hall. We would like to thank all of our scripture teachers for volunteering this year and wish them all a very Merry Christmas.

Thank You Morning Tea - Wednesday 27 November
Last Wednesday we had our thank you morning tea for all our volunteers. It is always a lovely start to our end of year celebrations acknowledging the work of all the volunteers in the school. I would like to thank every parent, grandparent and community member who have helped out in the canteen, uniform shop, library, classrooms, were reading helpers in the Multi Lit program or specialist reading programs, who assisted with transporting students to sporting events, dance concerts and debating and public speaking events or making bacon and egg rolls at Café Owl on a Friday morning. We can only run the diversity of programs we do at minimal cost with the help of our volunteers. Thank you to our volunteers. I hope you enjoyed your morning tea catered for by the staff at Manly Vale Public School in appreciation for the support you give us all.

Buddy Walk - Friday 22 November
Last Friday our year 6 and Kindergarten students had a walk together to Manly Dam. They participated in games and activities together. Our “Buddy” program is always such a great success and enjoyed by both the Kindergarten and year 6 students. It is always a sad time when our Kindergarten students say good bye to their buddies as they leave Manly Vale Public School for high school. Thank you Mr Dylan and Mrs Robertson for your organisation of this activity.

Orienteering Make-up Day - Monday 2 December
Due to the bushfire warning we will have a makeup day for Year 4 orienteering students. The makeup day will be next Monday 2 December. Students in Year 4 who do orienteering for school sport should wear their sport’s uniform this day.
Minifest - 6 December
As part of the end of year celebrations Year 6 students host a Minifest to be enjoyed by all students K-6. Students have been asked to bring in small prizes or individually wrapped lollies to be used as prizes for the day. Year 6 provide a variety of games and experiences for all students to participate in including hoopla, water slide, sponge throwing, guessing competitions, haunted house etc. All proceeds go towards a Year 6 gift for the school to be presented at Celebration of Learning.
Beaches for the Bush - fundraiser (see brochure) 6 December
This year we are asking that in addition to the Minifest students donate a gold coin (or more) to the Bushfire Appeal “Beaches 4 The Bush.” Donations will be collected on the morning of the Minifest day as payment for the mufti day experience. Parents are also able to make cash donations at the office that morning. All proceeds from his appeal will go towards the RFS and Midcoast Lions Club. A Gofundme page is also available below for additional donations:

Reports - Tuesday 10 December
Final school reports will go home on Tuesday 10 December with all students. These reports are a reflection of how your child is performing according to grade and stage expectations. A “sound” ranking means that they have achieved the necessary standard to meet the outcomes according to grade and stage expectations. “Sound” is an excellent achievement for students. Some students will receive a “High” or Outstanding” ranking if they are performing above the grade/stage level in that area. Work samples are assessed according to grade expectations and sometimes students are performing well above the grade norm and do receive a “high” or an “outstanding” assessment score. This is not usual. Most students will achieve “sound” on their reports and should be extremely proud of their achievements as it has meant that they have satisfactorily achieved the grade standard in that area of the curriculum.
Please take this explanation into account when reviewing reports. Sometimes students can score a “high” in one area of English and then due to the change in outcome expectations can be ranked at “sound” at the end of the year. Please read the outcome statement carefully to see what was being assessed.

Celebration of Learning – CHANGE OF TIME 2019
Please note there has been a change of time for the 2019 K-2 and 3-6 Celebration of Learning ceremonies. The change of time is due the possibility of a NSW Teacher’s Mass Meeting that could occur next Thursday morning. We did not want to be making this decision at late notice, so have decided to adjust the times regardless of whether the meeting will go ahead.
K-2 ceremony will now be commencing at
11:30am
3-6 ceremony will now be commencing at 1:30pm
If the meeting is to go ahead, you will be informed later this week.
Thank you for your understanding in this situation
Nicole Blackband - Assistant Principal
Schools Spectacular 2019
Congratulations to Toby Marsters, Matilda Graham, Talia Stedman and Katie Birch for participating in the 2019 Schools Spectacular. This amazing show has over 5,500 public school students across NSW. They are so lucky to have had the opportunity to dance and be part of the show in their ‘Wonderland’ segment as part of their external ensemble groups. We hope you had the most amazing time!!

Minifest
Year 5 & 6 students are organising their annual MINIFEST for Friday afternoon 6 December. Small groups of senior students will be running a variety of fun and exciting activities and stalls. All students have the opportunity to have a go for a token. The children purchase tokens in the morning of the Minifest from Year 6 students in the playground. It costs $2 for 10 tokens. The children may purchase more tickets during the afternoon. Please ensure they have a small carry bag which they can put their prizes in throughout the afternoon.
This will be a mufti-day with no school uniform. As the weather will likely be hot clothing should be sun sensible.
Children are being asked to bring in small prizes to donate to the activities. The prizes can be small trinkets or wrapped lollies. If the children bring in wrapped lollies we request there are no chocolate type lollies owing to traces of nuts which some children are allergic to. They need to begin bringing in the prizes to their class teacher now if possible please. This year we are including the option to bring in a small donation of $5 instead of contributing to the prize pool.
Proceeds from the day go towards the year 6 fundraising efforts which include their gift to the school.
Massive thank you from the Stage 3 staff.
Schools Spectacular Choir
Last week Isabella Earl performed with the Arts Alive Combined Schools Choir at Schools Spectacular with Miss Mason and over 2700 performers in the combined choir. She was part of the Arena Choir creating the very impressive floor routine with the signing choir. We are very proud of Isabella representing Manly Vale with pride and performing at such a huge event. Congratulations Isabella!
Miss Rebekah Mason

School Banking
The last day for school banking is Wednesday 11 December 2019.
Scholastic Book Club
Orders are due back at school no later than tomorrow Friday 29 November 2019.
School Student Transport Scheme 2020 Applications (including Opal Cards)
School Student applications for 2020 open from Friday 11 October 2019. Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:
- Are continuing at the same school;
- Are residing at the same address;
- Have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport of NSW.
Where a student meets a new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to:
https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updatedetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.
