Principal’s Report
Last week our senior band went on tour in the Bathurst region for 3 days. Ben Dickson our conductor organised performances at Katoomba Primary School, Kelso Primary School and Portland Central School. Along with the performances the band also visited Featherdale Wildlife Park and Bathurst Goldfields. The tour was a lot of fun for all who attended and staying right on Mount Panorama just after the famous Bathurst race was a highlight! Thank you to Ben, Ms Stacey and Ms Taylor for attending the camp and allowing our band students to experience such a great opportunity.

Wednesday 23 October - Kindergarten 2020 Welcome Night
Last Wednesday evening our P & C hosted a welcome drinks evening for our new parents. The Kindergarten teachers Mrs Lucey, Mrs Robertson, Ms Taylor and Ms Mason presented “A Day in the Life of Kindergarten” and James Fewtrell (P & C president) invited all our new parents to take part in the school and enjoy the community spirit the parents, staff and students provide. It was an informative evening and a great way to wrap up our Kindergarten Orientation program for the year. Our final get together will be at Manly Dam with the picnic play date organised for Wednesday 6 November at 10.00am. Thank you to Mrs Lucey and the Kindy team for all their organisation of the orientation program. We have currently 81 new students starting next year and will make 4 classes.
Trivia Night - Old & New School or come as something starting with “M” or “V”
This Saturday night the teachers have organised a table for the Trivia Night. There are many prizes ready for auction including “Homework Passes”, “Lunch with your Teacher” vouchers and the ‘Principal for the Day” voucher. Bring your gold coins for the various mini games on offer. Be at the school hall at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. It should be a great evening.
Congratulations Hannah Huisman
Last week Pipi Te Pania, Mackenzie Jeffs and Hannah Huisman all competed in the Regional Athletics carnival at Homebush. This is an extremely high level of competition and each of the girls did extremely well to get to this level. Hannah Huisman was able to secure 3rd place in the 100m final and now will go on to compete at the State Athletics Carnival. A wonderful achievement. A great effort from all of the 3 girls!
Good Luck Max
Max Mako will go on tour with the Arts Alive Band next week. Max is a bass clarinet player in our school band but also plays in this regional band.
State Drama Ensemble
Congratulations to Morgan Andrews, Phoebe Crowe and Will Curzon on their selection in the State Drama Ensemble for 2019. Our talented students will perform in the State Drama Festival this Thursday and Friday. We wish them all the best in their performances. Ms Jaala Kemp was hoping to be there to watch them all for their performances.
New School Graphics
During the holidays our school received a "splash of colour." A graphics company was engaged to supply a more colourful finish to our buildings. We thought we would share a few pictures.

Owen Taylor
Last Wednesday I attended the funeral of Owen Taylor the principal from Balgowlah North Public School. It was a very sad occasion to farewell a good friend and colleague. Owen will be missed by many of us and his school and local community. He was a great leader of his school, and an influential leader of the local principals, in his position as president of the Primary Principals Association. He was a personal friend as we both started as deputy principals together, he at Neutral Bay Public School and myself at Balgowlah Heights Public School. We became principals together and have shared many happy times as friends and colleagues. His passion for public school education and his love of children was an example to all. As a school Manly Vale has been supporting the staff of Balgowlah North Public School through various means and will be an ongoing support to our neighbouring school for the next few weeks.

Positive Behaviour for Learning – PBL
As you move around the playground and learning spaces at Manly Vale Public School this term you may notice new A3 posters displaying our Behaviour Expectations. These posters facilitate a shared language of our expectations to hold discussions between the students, teachers, parents and the community. This approach enables students to be responsible for their own behaviour and self-regulate using the explicit expectations as a guide.
We invite you to have a conversation with your child about these expectations and have attached a copy for you as a reference.
Thank you for your continued support of our Student Welfare Programs.

Tell Them From Me – Parent Survey – CLOSES THIS FRIDAY
Our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me surveys. These surveys will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students, parents and staff think about school life. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys.
The responses you provide will help our school better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school identify what works to improve student outcomes. Please use the link below to complete your parent survey
http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/mvps2019
You may complete multiple parent surveys if you have more than one child for example, a K-2 and 3-6 student and you would like to give specific feedback.
The survey closes this Friday 25 October 2019.
More information about the survey and the research is available on the CESE website:
