Principal’s Report
I am writing this newsletter from our nation’s capital Canberra whilst on the Stage 3 camp. It is always such a privilege to attend the camp with our senior students every year and have time with them before they venture off to high school. The Stage 3 teachers go out of their way to ensure every student enjoys the experience of being away from home and routines for some it’s the first time away without parental supervision. Camp is definitely a time for students to grow in maturity and independence and also to see new places and try new experiences, Canberra was this for the 120 students that attended.
Thank you to the teachers who take time away from their families Mr Dylan, Mrs Blackband, Mrs Ward, Mrs Birrell, Mrs Cash and Mrs Radan and assume the responsibility of care for each and every one of the students.
The sites experienced included Parliament House and the War Memorial on the first day, The High Court of Australia, Australian Mint, Cockington Green and the AIS on the second day and lastly Questacon on our third day.

Bear Pit Finals
Last Monday Kate Fewtrell (Stage 2) and Talia Stedman (Stage 3) represented Manly Vale Public School in the Bear Pit Public Speaking competition at State Parliament House. Both girls were praised for their confident presentations when competing against 13 local primary school representatives. James Griffin (Member for Manly) hosted the morning. Thank you to Kate’s and Talia’s parents who escorted the girls to this prestigious competition. It was with great pride I attended and witnessed their speeches.

Tournament of the Minds - Sunday 1 September
Last Sunday our two school Tournament of the minds teams competed at Roseville College against a range of other schools. Mrs Radan accompanied the teams and praised their outstanding commitment to their teams and the excellent preparation for the day. Thank you to all the parents who gave up their Sunday to attend this event and to Mrs Radan and Mrs Banham for the additional work you have done in preparing the teams for such a competitive event.

Kindergarten Orientation - Session 2
Today we hosted the second session of the Kindergarten Orientation program for our new enrolments for next year. Our new parents enjoyed presentations from our Ethics Coordinator and a short talk from our school banking coordinator along with a tour of the OOSH facility. All the new students enjoyed visiting the Kindergarten classrooms. The new enrolment procedures were explained clearly outlining that Manly Vale will only be taking in area enrolments next year and siblings of enrolled students. The 100 point address checks will be done on all new enrolments during the Best Start Assessment program at the beginning of next year or in the last few weeks of this year. All proof of address must be done within 3 months of enrolling.
The point system is as follows:
Document showing the full name of the child’s parent |

Any of the following:

Our next Kindergarten Orientation session will be on Monday 16 September. This session will focus on the uniform with the uniform shop opening especially for our new Kindergarten parents that day. If you are able to help out in the uniform shop that day please email Wendie McDougall who is coordinating the day.
Spelling Bee Finals - Friday 6 September
Good luck to the following students who are our finalists in the school spelling bee competition. They will be competing in the Regional finals tomorrow. Finalists include: Abigail Wilson, Zane Coniglio, Scout Twidale and Max Mako.
Father’s Day Sausage Sizzle
Thank you to all the dads and granddads who attended the Father’s Day sausage sizzle last Friday. Although the rain was very heavy it certainly didn’t deter our families from attending this wonderful community event. A very big thank you to Lee Meredith, Maura McGee and their team of volunteers who organised the BBQ and cooked the beautiful breakfast for all our fathers.
Thank you to the choir conducted by Mrs Lucey and Ms Mason who performed at the breakfast and to all the teachers who willingly opened their classrooms for visits in the morning. It certainly was fantastic to host the event in our new under cover area outside the hall.
Congratulations to all the winners of the raffle.
Spell-A-Thon
We have now completed the Spell-a-thon testing and students should be busily collecting sponsorship money. Please feel free to bank the money via the link below or send it into your child’s class teacher in a clearly marked envelope.
http://www.manlyvalepc.org.au/
Estimated totals have been recorded by class teachers last Friday so money owed can be chased up. Year 6 parent volunteers will be at school on Friday mornings to help count money. Last sponsorship money is to be handed in by Friday 13 September if students wish to be considered in the prize categories.
Good Luck to our Dancers!
Some of our talented dancers will be representing the school and region over the next week at the State Dance Festival. Talia Stedman, Tilly Graham and Emily Levingston will be performing as part of the Sydney North Ensemble, and Toby Masters, Katie Birch and Talia Stedman as part of the State Dance Ensemble. Ms Panetta will be attending next week. Good luck to these talented students.
Dancesport Gala Event 2019
Next Monday 38 of our Year 5 students will be performing the tango, jive and cha cha at Homebush Stadium as part of the Dancesport Challenge. This event involves up to 20 schools competing in ballroom dancing routines. Brad Humphreys our ballroom dance teacher and National Champion himself, has trained our team and is excited to see them compete next week. Good luck to our year 5 students!
We will also host a school Dancesport Expo On Monday 23 September for all year 5 students. Parents and friends will be invited to come along and see our students perform. Year 3 & 4 will also be performing their Hip Hop routines.
