Principal’s Report

Welcome back to all our students and their families. I hope you all had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the many days of sunshine. During the holidays the outdoor area outside the canteen was completed and we have been using this area as additional playground space during this week. The oval needed some further work during the holidays but we will be able to use most of the area next week including the new long jump pit created over the break.

The after school care have a new kitchen to work with and are enjoying their new facilities. Thank you to the staff at Primaryoshcare for their flexibility in accommodating the additional construction works during the holidays.

Snake Tails Performance - Wednesday 24 July

As part of our NAIDOC celebrations, our students were treated to a cultural experience last Wednesday in the hall. Bob from “Snake Tails” brought in a range of reptiles including a brown snake, tiger snake and a variety of lizards and talked about how the aboriginal people used these reptiles as a food source and as tribal totems. As you can see from the photos, some of our students got up close and personal with these scaly critters. It was a wonderful performance and a great way to hear about bush tucker and sustainable hunting practices of our aboriginal people.

Banner Assembly - Friday 26 July

Congratulations to Phoebe Crowe, Kate Scholtens and Ruby Nelson who will all be receiving a School Banner at the Friday morning assembly this week.

Education Week - “Every Student, Every Voice”

During Week 3 of this term we will open the school to all parents and community members to see the wonderful work going on in our school.

The Open Day will be on Tuesday 6 August starting at 9.20am. Classrooms will be open, there will be a Book Fair in the library and performances from our school bands, dance ensembles, drama group and choir. Morning tea will be shared with the students at 11.00am with proceedings finishing up at 11.30am. Please put a note in your diary and come along to this fabulous day of celebration.

Life Education Van - Healthy Harold

On Thursday 1 August – 12 August we will have a visit from the Life Education Van and Healthy Harold. All students will visit the van to take part in interactive activities on healthy eating, exercise and making positive choices for a healthy and happy well-being. A separate note will come home next week explaining the program in detail. The cost of the program will need to be paid prior to 1 August. A parent information session and visit to the van has been arranged for Monday 12 August at 1.30pm.

Farewell Jackie O’Neill

Next Wednesday we will say farewell to a long term volunteer of the school. Jackie has been assisting in the library and maintaining the school archives for many years. Her service to Manly Vale Public School has been very much appreciated by all the staff. Thank you Jackie for your commitment and time! We wish you all the best in your retirement and thank you for the many volunteer hours you have put into our school.
