Principal’s Report
Last Tuesday our Junior Band walked to Manly Vale Nursing home and Community Kindergarten to perform. The band conducted by Carlos performed a few pieces and enjoyed sharing their musical expertise with the elderly and the young. It was wonderful to see how much they have improved. Thank you Carlos and Ms Taylor for accompanying the children to these events.

Year 6 Premier’s Sporting Challenge Leadership Day
Last Monday our year 6 students travelled to Freshwater Senior Campus to participate in a variety of sports including golf, touch football, soccer, cricket, AFL and softball drills. The local high school students were the coaches and mentors for the day. The year 6 teachers Mrs Blackband, Mrs Ward and Mr Dylan also enjoyed participating in the variety of sports and games.
Ms Fisk has put a lot of energy and enthusiasm into the Premier’s Sporting Challenge this year and organised this day. Manly Vale staff and students are enjoying the challenge to complete at least 1 hour of physical activity a day. Last week the executive team led all the students and staff through some dance moves on assembly to “Nutbush City Limits.” Thank you Ms Fisk for motivating us all to be healthy and active at school.
NAPLAN Testing
This week is the final week of the NAPLAN testing. As a school we have had a smooth transition to the online format with very few glitches or connectivity issues, due to our new Wi-Fi system in the school. Congratulations to all the Year 3 & 5 students on completing the tests and to Mrs Blackband and Mr Dylan for all their behind the scenes organisation. We hope to get our school results within the next few weeks (which is one of the advantages of the online system).
Opportunity Class Applications - Year 4

Premier’s Sport Challenge Year 6 Learning to Lead Day
On Monday 20 May, Manly Vale Public School Year 6 students joined several other Northern Beaches Primary Schools at Freshwater Campus to participate in a fun-filled day of sport activities. This initiative was aimed at providing our students with the knowledge and skills to lead activities for their younger peers back at school.
Year 6 enthusiastically attempted ultimate frisbee, golf, touch football, soccer, cricket, AFL and softball drills and skills. These activities were overseen by local sport development officers accompanied by Year 10 students from Mackellar, Balgowlah Boys, Freshwater, Cromer and Manly Selective who were undertaking their coaching component of the elective PASS subject (Physical Activity and Sports Studies).
The day was a huge success. Thank you to Mrs Fisk for her organisation and continued support of the Premier’s Sporting Challenge initiative at Manly Vale Public School. It is definitely encouraging us all to be healthy and active!
PSC Day Recount
On Monday 6 May year 6 went to Freshwater Senior Campus, Mike Pauley Field to take part in the NSW Premiers Sporting Challenge day. There were many other schools and 8 different sports to participate in which included: AFL, Cricket, Football, Golf, Rugby League, Softball and Ultimate Frisbee. There were trained year 10 students from Mackellar Girls, Balgowlah Boys, Cromer and Manly Selective to teach us about the different sports.
The first session we participated in cricket. We had a Sydney Sixers player alongside the coaches. We first started with some bowling by trying to hit the stumps and my team finished first. Then we did some drills and played some fun games. We really enjoyed cricket and made a couple of friends.
The second session that we participated in was football (soccer). We had no idea how to play soccer but we just wanted to give it a go and try a new sport. We had a Sydney FC player there to help us with our drills and skills. There were three activities that we did during the soccer period. The first thing that we did was we worked on dribbling and passing to our friends. After that we played a game of tails, then we played a game of number soccer that was our favourite activity during the soccer time, then we played three matches against the other teams, our team won two of the three games we played.
In the last session we played touch football. We did passing practice and worked on running backwards and sideways. Then we played a game of bullrush and everyone was laughing and having lots of fun. Touch was our favourite sport out of the three.
After all it was a really fun day. We learned many new skills and learned how to play different sports. We would definitely participate in this again if we had the opportunity to. I think that everybody would love to do this again.
