Principal’s Report
This week has been a very busy one opening with our annual school Cross Country Carnival. It was a beautiful day down at David Thomas with students from year 2 up to year 6 running 2-3 km around the oval. It was great to have so many parents cheering for our students on the day and I thank them all for their support and encouragement. A big thank you to Mr Dylan for his organisation of the day. Congratulations to all students who came in the top 8 places as they will go off to the Zone cross country on Wednesday 5 June. The place ribbons will be given out at Friday morning assembly on 17 May.
School Banner Awards - Friday 10 May
Congratulations to Tom Bradley 4T who received his first school banner last Friday.
This Friday Mackenzie Jeffs (5/6W), Rory Edgerton (5R) and Eliza Toole (4M) will receive school banners after achieving 3 Principal Awards. This is tremendous honour for these students.
Mother’s Day Stall - Friday 10 May
This Friday all students will have the opportunity to buy a $5 or $10 gift from the Mother’s Day stall. Thank you to every student who donated a present and to all families who sold raffle tickets. All profits from these fundraising activities will go towards a new screen and sound system for our new school hall.
“Adopt a Farmer” Fundraiser
Yesterday all students dressed up as farmers to help with the national drought and flood relief appeal. We managed to raise over $1,100.00 in funds for the farmers in rural and remote areas. The money raised will go towards $100 gift cards for farmers and their families to spend in the local store and assist in helping all businesses that have been affected by the continuing drought. It was a lot of fun for all students.

Band Meeting – Monday 6 May
We had our second band meeting for the year. It was great to hear from our new conductor Carlos who has enjoyed a very successful start with our junior band this year. Our junior band will be performing at a local nursing home and the Manly Vale Kindergarten on Tuesday 21 May.
Our senior band will be travelling around the Bathurst area later in the year on a band tour and Ben has been busily organising this event for the first week back in Term 3 (14 October- 18 October). Thank you to all the parents who attended the meeting last Monday. We look forward to the upcoming concerts and performances.
Dance Group - Audition
Congratulations to our girl’s senior dance ensemble and our boy’s Hip Hop group who successfully auditioned at Manly West Public School yesterday. Ms Natalie Panetta (dance teacher) and Ms Bianca Murray (dance administrator) complimented both groups on their behaviour and ability to remember their routines. We will be notified as to whether the dance groups are successful in securing a spot in the Northern Sydney Dance Festival at Glen Street Theatre later this term. Thank you Ms Panetta and Ms Murray for your commitment to the dance program within the school.
Both dance groups will perform at the school dance concert on Wednesday 3 July.
Premier’s Sporting Challenge
Manly Vale Public School will participate in the Premier’s sporting challenge this term. There will be a range of sporting and fitness opportunity which began yesterday with Ms Sally Fisk and our sport’s captains leading a whole school fitness routine at assembly. Year 6 and their teachers are also attending a sporting skills day run by the local high schools on Monday 20 May. After this day the Year 6 students will organise lunchtime games and competitions for the rest of the students.

Please ensure that students come to school on time during these next 2 weeks.
