Principal’s Report
Last Tuesday night was the final parent information night. Thank you to all the parents who attended the evenings and school tours over the past couple of weeks. These evenings are a great way to meet the teachers and set up your child’s routines and school organisation for the year. If you were unable to attend please be sure that you have received all the hand outs and have completed a yellow slip so that you can be included on the Class Emails list.
Class Coordinators have now been allocated their classes for the year and should receive the class email lists by the end of the week. Year 5 and 6 parents were unable to complete the email lists on the night and the coordinators may have to type out the whole class list from the yellow slips returned to school. A class coordinator induction afternoon will be held in the next week or so. Kristen Te Pania will email all the coordinators by the end of the week with the proposed date of the induction afternoon, and information regarding the Barefoot Bowling evening on Friday 5 April (our first P & C fundraiser).
P & C Meeting - Tuesday 12 March at 7.00pm
Our first P & C meeting will be held in the new staffroom (next to hall) on Tuesday 12 March at 7.00pm. All parents are welcome to these meetings. These meetings are a great way to hear about what is happening in the school, learn about the various roles parents can play within the school, help with planning of events and directions for the school, and get to know other parents. Please feel welcome to come along.
A tour of the school will be held prior to the meeting at 6.30pm for anyone who has missed the pervious school tours.
NAPLAN Testing - years 3 & 5
This year our Year 3 & 5 students will sit the NAPLAN testing (online) between 14-24 May. This 10 day window allows for catch up days and ensures that all students have access to individual computers for the test. It is important for all students in Year 3 & 5 sit these tests within this timeframe. There is no flexibility to provide catch up days after this time period.
Junior Band Conductor
Today we interviewed some applicants for the Junior Band Conductor position. We hope to have made a decision by next Monday 4 March and will have a permanent conductor by next week. Thank you to Ben Dickson for organising replacement conductors during this time. Thank you to all the Junior Band members for their patience during this time.
Design Make Innovate - Stage 3
Next week our Stage 3 students will begin their “Design, Make, Innovate” (D.M.I) projects where they work with high school mentors on a design project. These sessions are always extremely popular with our senior students as they collaborate and problem solve to design a solution working in a framework of a set criteria. Mackellar Girls Campus will be providing mentors to work with groups on these projects.
Photo Day - Thursday 7 March
Next Thursday is our school photo day. Please ensure your child comes to school with a clean uniform, black shoes and white socks and their hair done that day. The photographers and teachers do their best to make sure students look their best for the photos and your support with this is greatly appreciated.
Sibling photos will be done at lunchtime that day.
PSSA
Last Friday we had our first PSSA competition round. It was an extremely wet afternoon and most students and coaches came back from their games very wet. The coaches do their best to monitor weather but last minute changes to training and games does occur as we always try and play the games and run trainings. Please ensure your download the Schoolzine App so you can receive last minute notifications of arrangements. Thank you to our coaches who stood in the rain at David Thomas that morning to tell parents that training had been cancelled.
Car Parking
Please be mindful of parking around the school and blocking driveways.

We are also extending our age limit to include students from Year 2 who have a passion for music and singing. Just a reminder to all the Year 3-6 students, notes are due back to Miss Mason or Mrs Lucey this week. We look forward to singing with everyone!

Volunteers needed for Café Owl
Volunteers needed to work at Café Owl, our Friday morning café
Run exclusively by Manly Vale parent volunteers every Friday from 8.00-9.00am, it’s a popular place to meet friends and enjoy a yummy bacon/egg roll and coffee before school.
We need parent (or grandparent) helpers to keep our café running. Working at Café Owl is a great way to meet other parents and help raise funds for our school. If you’ve like to volunteer, please contact Justine at jneditorial@gmail.com.au or 0406 451 098.
