Principal’s Report

Welcome back to our final term for 2018. It is hard to believe that we are in the final stages of the year and not long off saying goodbye to our old school and welcoming our new school.

As we will be packing up the whole school ready for removalists to come in immediately when we finish, we have brought forward our Celebration of Learning day to Thursday 6 December. Reports will be sent home the next day Friday 7 December.

“Thank you Cleaner Day”

Yesterday it was ‘thank you Cleaner day” and we would like to take the opportunity to thank and acknowledge our cleaner Jigme who has done an amazing job keeping the school clean during construction. Jigme is always flexible and willing to do anything asked of him and is a happy member of our staff team. Thank you Jigme!

Kindergarten Orientation -Tuesday 23 October & Wednesday 24 October

Next week will be the last week of our Kindergarten Orientation program for 2019 students. On Tuesday 23 October at 9.30-11.00am students will attend our Kindy classes and the parents will come to the hall where I will be speaking about the expectations and directions of the school. On Wednesday 24 October all new Kindergarten parents (without children) are invited to a drinks evening hosted by the P&C where they will also meet the Kindergarten teachers. This is a relaxed social evening and I encourage all parents to attend.

School Tour - Monday 3 December

There will be a school tour for all new 2019 enrolments on Monday 3 December at 10.00am. The tour will be approximately half an hour with time at the end to ask questions. All welcome.

Congratulations Owen Sengchanh

One of our ex-school captains has just been made school captain of Balgowlah Boys Campus for 2019. Congratulations to Owen Sengchanh on this wonderful acknowledgement. We are all very proud here at Manly Vale Public School.

Band AGM

Tonight the Band will be having their Annual General Meeting in the tech room. The meeting will begin at 7.00pm. Please come along to support the Band program and meet the hard working committee; John Logan (president), Helena Edgerton (secretary), Jo Poulos (treasurer), Manuela Curzon (senior band liaison), Glenys Beaumont (junior band liaison) and Turia Mako (instrument hire). They have done a great job running the band program for 2018 and supporting our conductors Gergely Malyusz and Ben Dickson. Thank you also to Ms Kate Stacey and Mrs Sarah Humphreys for their work in organising many of the activities and performances for the children. All parents are welcome to attend the band meetings to find out about the organisation.

Kindergarten Aquarium visit

Tomorrow our Kindergarten students will visit the Sydney Aquarium. Please make sure that all students arrive at school on time tomorrow to catch the bus. No lunch orders are available so please pack your child’s lunch.

School Fees - overdue

Reminders and overdue notices for school fees need to be paid immediately. I will be calling parents over the next few weeks as there are many outstanding fees for programs and excursions those students have attended over the past few terms. Please be aware that non-payment of fees is a financial burden on the school. The school only receives approximately $70 per student to provide resources; most of the programs and resources we have need to be financed through school fees or P&C fundraising.

New school

There was significant work completed over the school holiday period and we can now see the school taking shape. Department of School Infrastructure will be attending next week’s School Council meeting on Monday 22 October and will also be running an information booth at Café Owl on Friday 16 November. This will be the start of information sessions around the new school so please take the opportunity to visit these information booths.

P & C Annual General Meeting - Tuesday 13 November – 7.00pm

The P & C Annual General Meeting will be Tuesday 13 November in the staffroom. This meeting will be to elect the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Only parents who have paid the membership fee are able to vote on the night. All parents are invited to come along to welcome in the new or standing committee.

World Teacher’s Day - Friday 26 October

On Friday of week 2 it is World Teacher’s Day. This may be an opportunity to thank your child’s class teacher for all their work this year. We are very lucky at Manly Vale Public School to have outstanding teachers who are dedicated to the students they teach. As a principal I feel very privileged to lead such a wonderful team of teachers. Happy Teacher’s Day!

Congratulations Mrs Radam

One of our year 5 teachers Ms Ellie Martin was married in the school holidays. Ellie will now be known as Mrs Radam.

We have also had alot of teachers get engaged recently and are busy planning weddings. Congratulations Ms Panetta, Ms Buckley and Ms Durazza. It has been a very exciting time for the Manly Vale staff this year.

Medications at School

If your child is requiring medication at school it must be handed into the office in the correct container with the dosage clearly marked on it. Permission to administer forms need to be signed at the office. Children should not be carrying medications in their bags. Our first aid officers monitor and administer all medications in the front office.

Car Park

Please do not use the car park to pick up and drop off your children. The car park is an access road to the construction and for teachers and visitors to park. Please park down the road and walk up to the school or use the drop off zone on the eastern side of Gibbs Street near the crossing. Wednesday mornings is particularly congested with scripture and ethics teachers all trying to park as well.

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! We hope all K-2 students and their families had a lovely, relaxing holiday break. We can’t believe we are already in term 4! The year is flying by so fast. All students have settled in well and are eager to engage in the exciting programs and activities we have planned for this term.

Kindergarten parents, our school will be participating in the Primary Caregiver Survey between September and November this year. We invite you to participate in this survey which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please refer to the flyer attached in this edition of the Bush Telegraph. A soft copy will also be emailed to you via your class coordinator. We appreciate your anticipated support with this initiative.

School Student Transport Scheme 2019 Applications (including Opal Cards)

School Student applications for 2019 open from Monday 15 October 2018. Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:

  • Are continuing at the same school;
  • Are residing at the same address;
  • Have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to

https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updatedetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019.

Brochures were distributed this week and are due back at school no later than Friday 2 November 2018.

Canteen News

Look out for our new Summer Menu this term (see under Forms & Documents on the side panel of the newsletter). We have introduced some lighter meals for Spring/Summer which we hope the children will enjoy including Dim Sims on Mondays, a ‘crispy chicken tender wrap with lettuce’ on Wednesdays and Burritos on Thursdays. Also Juicies are back on the menu as are canteen made slushies which are delicious and made only from ice, fresh fruit and fruit juice!

Don’t forget that we are now providing waste free lunches on Wednesdays. Simply select the ‘waste free Wednesday’ option on Flexischools and order as usual then send a plastic container to school with your child for us to put their food into. We will supply reusable forks if needed. Sushi rolls are a good option for a ‘waste free lunch’ as they are now provided plastic free!!!

Lastly, please remind you children that they need to collect any frozen items ordered from the canteen as we DO NOT put them in the lunch bags.
