Principal’s Report

Yesterday our Semester 1 reports went home. If you require more explanation of the evaluation of the report please feel free to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher next term. These reports are assessed according to the NSW curriculum outcomes. Please remember that the expectation for students is that they achieve “Sound” progress in their report assessments. If your child has a tick in the “Basic (D)” or “Limited (E)” areas then they are usually receiving additional or individual support and are still working towards achieving stage outcomes. If your child received “High (B)” or “Outstanding (A)” achievement, then they are performing above the stage expectations for that area of the curriculum. Most students at Manly Vale Public School are achieving “Sound” achievement for most areas of the curriculum. This report is a great opportunity for students to work on areas for development for semester 2. There will be no formal interviews this term but feel free to organise an interview if you need further explanation of the report.

K-2 “Story Books Through Time” Dance Concert

Yesterday we had our annual K-2 dance concert at Allambie Heights Public School hall. It was a fantastic concert and a real showcase of all the wonderful dance routines K-2 had been learning with our specialist dance teacher Mrs Orrick. Congratulations to all the K, 1 and 2 students on their fantastic dance routines and a big thank you to Mrs Lyn Orrick for her choreography, Miss Natalie Panetta for her choreography of the school’s dance ensembles and to Miss Victoria Durazza for her organisation of the buses and behind the scenes support for the concert. Thank you to all the parents for assisting with costuming for the day.

Disco – “Myths, Legends and Fairytales”

Tonight Thursday 5 July we have our first disco for the year. K-2 students will attend from 5.30pm – 7.00pm and years 3-6 will attend from 7.10pm – 8.40pm. All students are encouraged to attend the disco. Tickets are available at the door and in the mornings in the front playground. All staff will be in attendance for the night. Only current Manly Vale Public School students are able to attend. Please make sure that you pick your child up promptly from the session they are attending. If your child is going home with another parent a letter must be given to the class teacher on the night.

Thank you Mr Dylan and year 6 for their organsiation of the event.

Multi-cultural Speaking Competition

Congratulations to Ophelia Shapter, Talia Stedman, Pipi Te Pania and Kira Arkhipova for making the local finals in the multicultural speaking competition. The girls presented their speeches at Collaroy Plateau Public School yesterday and did an amazing job representing our school in this event.

Dance Ensembles – Glen Street Performance

Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Dance Ensembles who have performed at Glen Street Theatre this week as part of the Sydney North Dace Festival. They have been extremely professional in juggling rehearsals and additional performances for school and have delivered wonderful performances at this event. Congratulations to all the students involved and to Miss Panetta for her choreography and Miss Durazza for her organisation and support. A great week for all students involved. Thank you to the parents who assisted with transport this week.

Sarah Langley’s Retirement – This Friday 6 July

After 15 years of working for Manly Vale Public School in the canteen our wonderful Sarah Langley is retiring. We didn’t have the opportunity to farewell her officially last year so we invite anyone from ex-students, community members, current parents and friends to come and acknowledge the wonderful work Sarah did in our canteen. The morning proceedings are as follows;

8am- Breakfast at Café Owl. (All Invited)
9am- assembly to farewell Sarah from the school
9.30am- Morning tea in the hall. All welcome

There will be no PSSA training on Friday morning to allow children the opportunity to say good-bye to Sarah. PSSA make up games will go ahead later that day. Please make an effort to come along for part of or the whole of the proceedings for Sarah.

Peer Support Day – Friday 6 July

Our year 6 leaders will run a whole school peer support morning on Friday 6 July. This is a follow up to their leadership camp at the beginning of the year. All students will go down to Millers Reserve at around 9.30pm on Friday and participate in sporting activities run by our year 6 leaders. Thank you to Mrs Blackband for her organisation of the day. It will be a great way to conclude the term.

Happy Holidays – 7 July – 22 July

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy holiday. The children definitely need a rest, as do the teachers. The school holiday program run by primaryOSHCare will be run during these holidays on site. If you need more information regarding the holiday program please contact Romina on 0430 369 288.

During the holidays significant works will be going on to ensure the completion of the hall, so access to the school site will only be for the holiday care children.

School security Number is: 1300880021

Staff Development Day – Monday 23 July

Our first day back at school next term all the teaching staff will be going to an alternative venue to participate in professional learning around student wellbeing. Please make sure you have organised alternative arrangements for that day, as there will be no teachers here to supervise children on that day. Our first day at school next term will be Tuesday 24 July. May I wish you all a very happy holiday!

Developing independent, resilient students within a safe learning environment

Happy Holidays

Wow! What a term. It has been an extremely busy one. The Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 teachers would like to sincerely thank all parents and carers for their support throughout the term. This includes helpers in the classroom, parents who have assisted on excursions and with learning support programs, those who have attended K-2 assemblies, and anyone who has helped the school in the canteen, supported fundraising events…the list goes on and on. We truly value the time you give to support our children, teachers and school.

The K-2 team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful, relaxing holiday. If you are heading on a trip, travel safe. If you are staying at home, enjoy simply spending time with your family with limited routines in place. We look forward to seeing you in term 3, refreshed and energised for another fun-filled term!

Debating

We are delighted to share with you the results of our debaters’ progress.

The Premier’s Debating Challenge Team hosted the round 3 debate against Beacon Hill Public School on Friday last week. The team debated that, ‘children under 18 years should be banned from Talent Shows and competitions’. The debate took place in the school hall with a very respectful Stage 2 and 3 audience. They handled this additional pressure very well and won the debate.

It is worth pointing out that our team demonstrated resilience as they needed to quickly readjust their speaking positions to accommodate Ebrika, our reserve debater who filled in for Ophelia. Our students should be congratulated on their flexibility and debating skills.

On Monday, our team had scheduled the round 4 debate against Allambie Heights Public School. The debate topic was that ‘schools should require all teachers to be fit, non-smokers’. The debaters argued their affirmative case logically and were able to confidently rebut all of the opposing team arguments.

Both Miss Martin and Mrs Banham are thrilled to announce that the Premier’s Debating Team have won all three debates completed thus far. The final debate, against Forestville Public School, will take place early next term.
