The Great Wall of Manly Vale
Yesterday our colourful artwork from last year was mounted on the wall near the back oval. It has made a tremendous display and hidden the great white space. Thank you to our Year 6 students for assisting in the mounting of the artwork. Please feel free to come up and look at the display after drop off or before pick up.

Parent Teacher Information Nights
At the beginning of the year we invite all parents to come up to the school for a parent information evening. The evening begins with a short talk in the school hall about Stage and grade activities, excursions and organisation then we move to your child’s classroom to receive detailed information about the class organisation. Please try and attend these evenings as homework and behaviour expectations are explained, there is always a short talk from P & C representatives about fundraising and getting involved, and you have an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher.
The evenings are:
Tuesday 20 February - Stage 3
(Years 5 & 6) – 6.00pm - Hall
Thursday 22 February – Kindergarten – 6.00pm -
Hall
Monday 26 February - Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) –
6.00pm - Hall
Tuesday 27 February - Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) –
6.00pm – Hall
Class Coordinators
Every class has a Class Co-ordinator. This is a parent who volunteers to keep communication flowing from the P & C and sometimes the class teacher to the parents in the class. Their first main job is to coordinate an email list for the class parents so that fundraising and social events can be communicated. On the parent information nights a laptop will be in each classroom for parents to add their email and contact details to a class list. This is not compulsory. If you wish to receive emails from other parents and the P & C please make sure you add your name to the email list on the night. Class coordinators will meet with Mrs Lee later this term to discuss their roles.
PSSA trials
We will be having more PSSA trails today and tomorrow for the summer PSSA sports. All children from years 3-6 are able to try out for the various summer sports. Please be aware that it is highly competitive and that not all students will make a school team. Students who don’t make a school team will still have sport back at school on a Friday. PSSA begins on Friday 23 February.
Uniform Shop - volunteers needed urgently!
Please Contact Gail Switzer or Katrina Piper if you are able to help out in the uniform shop on a Friday morning before school. The uniform shop will be open this Friday morning 9 February and then fortnightly after that.
Traffic and Parking
A few of our neighbours have called complaining about parents reckless driving and parking outside the school and on the crossing. Please do not park in no parking zones or on the crossing to drop off your children. Please always open the car on the kerb side for your children to exit. No students should be exiting a car on the roadside.

Bus Monitors
Many of our Manly Vale students catch the bus in the mornings and afternoons and we want to encourage students to do this. On each bus there are Year 5 bus monitors who ensure all students are looked after (especially our K-2 students). Our monitors help students get on and off at the correct stops and monitor all students are behaving sensibly on the bus. The monitors have a yellow card reporting system to let teachers know of any bus misdemeanours occur. If the bus takes the wrong route or is late, please ring the hotline on 9941 5814. We would also ask that students behave responsibly around the bus stops.
The following Year 5 students will be receiving bus monitor badges on Friday: Jake Van-De-Water, Diya Malhotra, Maya Gado, Toby Spence, Imogen Kirkwood, Holly Davis, Josh Slatter, Lydia Choi, Emma Lambley, Louis Jornales, Trisha Khapung and Winnie Commins.

Scholastic Book Club issue a book catalogue twice a term and offer a wide range of products appropriate to the age of your children.
Our school receives a percentage from all orders and this is used to purchase class resources (eg readers) for your children. Last year our teachers were able to spend over $2000 on books, readers, kits, games etc for our library and classrooms, the proceeds of which came from our Book Club orders.
Ordering can be done online (preferred method) in the link below or by downloading the LOOP app.
http://www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP
Cash orders must be submitted to the office in a ziplock bag clearly marked with the child's name and class with the order form enclosed.

$100 Voucher for Children’s Sport and Recreation Fees
Parents in NSW are now able to start claiming $100 towards extra-curricular sport and other physical activity fees thanks to the NSW Government’s new Active Kids program.
Active Kids will provide a $100 voucher for parents to put towards sporting fees and registration costs for every school-aged child in NSW.
The health of our children is a priority for me and every parent. I hope this makes a difference in enabling you to enrol your child in the sport or physical activity of your choice.
Families will be able to use the voucher for registration and membership costs, as well as fees for activities such as swimming.
The annual voucher will not be means tested because the NSW Government wants every child from every family to get active and involved in community sport and fitness.
Parents are able to use their voucher to claim up to $100 per school-child, per calendar year to reduce the cost of sport registration or membership of approved active recreation activities.
More details about the program and eligible sports is available at sport.nsw.gov.au/activekids or by phoning Service NSW on 13 77 88.
