Principal’s Report
Welcome back to all our students and parents. I trust your holidays have allowed you all to have some quality family time and that all students feel relaxed and ready for another exciting year at Manly Vale Public School.
Some exciting news from our staff with Mr Andy Bennett welcoming his new baby daughter Pipi over the holiday period and Ms Victoria Durazza becoming engaged to her partner Paul. A very exciting time for both of them and a wonderful way to begin 2018. Mr Bennett will be on leave until week 4 of this term with Mrs Tansy O’Farrell taking his class until then.
Children have been in their 2017 classes for this week but will go into the new classes for 2018, tomorrow Friday 2 February. This will allow the students the weekend to adjust to the new change and transition over the weekend. Students can feel anxious but please allow children to settle into their new classes as it can take a couple of days for children to adjust. It is important to remain positive during this time. New friendships will be made and children usually adjust very quickly.
Kindergarten 2018 - Welcome!
A special welcome to all our new Kindergarten 2018 students and families. The children met their new teachers last Wednesday 31 January. Their new teachers Ms Rebekah Mason, Ms Hannah Taylor, Ms Kate Stacey and Ms Tegan Buckley enjoyed meeting their new classes and will complete the individual Best Start assessments tomorrow Friday 2 February. Next week Kindergarten will have a shortened day starting at 9.30am and finishing at 2.30pm. If you are unable to do these drop off and pick up times please feel free to just drop off at 9.00am and pick up at 3.00pm as extra supervision is available for working parents. If you require extended before and after school care, please contact our before and after school care provider Primaryoshcare on 0430369288 or by making a booking online using the link below or by using the myfamilylounge app.

Next Monday 5 February all Kindergarten parents are welcome to come to “tears and tissues” in the school hall after drop off at 9.30am. Mrs Lee and Mrs Speight will be there to answer any questions or enquiries about school organisation.
Building/Construction Works
The asbestos works planned for the holidays have been completed and clearance certificates have been issued by the professional hygienists (WSP). The entrance to the year 1 classrooms has now been relocated to the end of the building near the hall ramp and a new entrance built in the middle of the building. The oval and new grassed area in “Kindyland” have been turfed and will be available for play space in week 4 of this term. Alternative playground spaces and play times will be in operation for the first 4 weeks of the term until the grass is established in these areas.
PSSA trials
Over the next few weeks all years 3, 4, 5 & 6 students will have the opportunity to try out for summer PSSA teams. These teams are representative teams and travel to local sporting fields on a Friday afternoon to play against local schools. Not all students will make a PSSA team as the teams are selected on a student’s sporting ability. If your child is not selected in a sporting PSSA team they will be doing a variety of sports back at school on Friday afternoons. There is a transport cost that will be charged for all PSSA team members. The summer PSSA sports are:
Volleyball, Newcomb Ball, Softball, T-Ball, Cricket and Eagle-tag. The competition starts in week 4 Friday 23 February.
School Swimming Carnival - Monday 12 February 10.00am-2.00pm
All students in years 3-6 will be attending the annual school swimming carnival at the “Andrew Boy Charlton” pool on Monday 12 February. A note will come home today explaining the details of the day. Year 2 students who turn 8 this year may participate in the carnival if they are capably able to swim 50 metres to compete in their age race. If not they will be supervised back at school with their teacher. Please return the permission note and money as soon as possible to the class teacher or office.
Permission Notes
Please make sure all permission notes and money is handed in, in a labelled envelope with your child’s name, class and event details on the front.
