Principal’s Report – Term 3 Week 7
Congratulations to all our winter PSSA teams for the season they have had this year. We have had a lot of rain and washed-out games, all teams played their final winter games last Friday with great sportsmanship and tremendous team spirit. It was a great day to finish our competition on.
Congratulations to the following teams who had great results from their competitions this year. Our Junior Girls Division 2 netball team coached by Ms Hepworth with assistance from Steph, came first. Our Senior Boys A soccer team were runners up in the competition, with our Junior A Boys soccer team winning the competition. Ms Cash was the coach for the season. Our Senior A girls soccer team coached by Mrs Blackband also won the competition. Congratulations to all winter PSSA teams.
The summer competition will have one game this term in week 9, Friday 19 September. The rest of the Fridays this term will be school sport with a normal timetable in place. We look forward to a successful summer PSSA season next term.
SASS Week
This week we celebrate our School Administrative and Support Staff and thank them for all their support of the students, parents and teachers. The SASS team play a very important role in our school. This week is an opportunity to send thank you messages and provide a lovely morning tea for our support team. We truly appreciate all they do for all of us.
Thank you to our office staff Pam, Annabel, Danni, Maria, Kerry and our Teacher’s Aides Steph, Justine, Erin, Lizzie, Paddy, and Barry our General Assistant.
Peer Support- Last Lesson
Last Monday was our least Peer Support lesson for the year. We thank our Year 6 teacher and leaders for all the work they did in preparing the lessons and leading the groups. A lot of students received prizes of stationery and stickers for their contributions to lessons this week.
Thank you to Mrs Lucey and Mrs Oscroft who spent many hours organising the groups and lessons. It has been a truly beneficial well-being activity and really brought our students together as a community. Our year 6 leaders have learnt a lot about leadership and teaching students.
Happy Birthday Manly Vale Public School
Last Tuesday we had a whole school photograph to celebrate 70 years of Manly Vale Public School. It was a lot of organisation for the photographers, to sit 565 students in the shape of the number 70, but well worth the historical moment for all of us to take this snapshot in time.
We acknowledge that our school has been through a lot of changes, and we are currently surveying students, teachers and now the community on the idea of changing the current House flag names to reflect a more contemporary look for our school.
House Flag Name Change
Our current House flags are named after colonial explorers Macquarie (red), Hunter (green), Phillip (blue)and King (yellow). Each class has come up with some names for our Houses. We will keep the same colours but have some suggestions of new names ranging from flora and fauna to places, planets and Greek gods.
We are currently collating the list to put to a vote to our whole school community. If you have some ideas for House names, please email the school by Monday 15 September with your suggestions. The list will be collated and voted on by teachers, students and P&C.
Some suggestions so far are:
Banksia (green), Wattle (yellow), Bottlebrush (red), Bluebell (blue) Waratah (red)
Possums, Dingoes, Kangaroo, kookaburra, Emus, Wallaby Goanna, Echidna
Panther, Tigers, Monkeys
Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus
Snake, lizard, spider, Crocodile
Black Swan ‘Honey Eaters, Lorikeet
Kindness (yellow) Respect (green) Honesty (blue), Strength (Red)
Manly, Shelley, Narrabeen, Warriewood
Kingfishers, Cockatoos, Lorikeets, Rosellas
Bimbimbie, Araluen, Panamunal, Taringa
Athena, Zeus, Posiedon, Felicitas
Father’s Day Breakfast and Skip-a-thon
This Friday we welcome all our dads or special friends to a breakfast. The choir will perform at 8.15am, with the band performing at 8.30am outside the hall. Parents are then invited to visit the classrooms, with the morning finishing at 9.00am. At 9.30am K-2 students will assemble for the Skip-a-thon. Dads are welcome to stay on and watch the skipping if they wish. Please note that all students must return a sponsorship form whether they have collected sponsors or not. Sponsorship forms can be handed in to the class teacher on the Friday morning before the Skip-a-thon starts.
All fundraising will go towards replacing the playground soccer goals, purchasing new equipment for the new K-2 playground and replacing and a new smartboard in one of the classrooms. We thank and appreciate all the work done by Amy Hansen and the Class Coordintaors for this event. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to count the money and award the winning fundraising classes.

Year 5 Dancesport Gala Success
Last Wednesday, our year 5 students proudly represented our school at the Dancesport Gala Night at Homebush. Over the past 15 weeks, students have been learning four dances - cha cha, tango, salsa, and jive under the expert guidance of our dedicated dance teacher, Svajone.
Throughout the program, students demonstrated resilience, fitness, and positivity as they embraced the challenge of preparing for the Gala. Their commitment and teamwork led to unprecedented success, with two of our couples placing first in the salsa and jive competitions. In addition, our school was honoured with a trophy for having the most couples from one school reach the finals.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented themselves and our school community. Their enthusiasm, determination, and achievements are a true celebration of their hard work and the supportive environment fostered throughout the program.

Kindergarten Science
Kindergarten Science - From tiny seeds to big discoveries.
Did you know that seeds have a tough outer coating that keeps them safe until the conditions are just right for them to grow? Kindergarten has been exploring the fascinating world of plants—planting seeds, watching them germinate and learning about the plant life cycle and seed dispersal. We were amazed by the many ways seeds can vary in size, shape, colour and texture. Our biggest surprise came when we opened a packet of radish seeds—inside we found seeds with a shimmering metallic blue coating! Along the way, we have also planted grass seeds, cared for them by watering and created leaf rubbings to observe the intricate details of leaves that help plants make their food.

Trivia Night
Calling all Tradies
Last year we had two amazing donations from two “tradie”parents of the School Cheery Chops (Tree solution specialists) and Call in Mr Smith (Painting). These items were auctioned off on the night and were a big hit raising huge funds for the school.
If you are a tradie and can donate your time/services please email the Trivia Committee, we would love to hear from you.
